In the name of God Amen on the First day of July in the yeare of our Lord Christ 1636
I Edward Harnett thelder of the parish of St. Lawrence within the Isle of Thanett and County of Kent Yeoman beeing of good and perfect memory (praised be God) doe make and ordaine this my Testament and Last will in manner and forme following
First I will and bequeath my soule into the hands of God Almighty my maker and Redeemer and my body to bee buried att the discret[ion] of myne Executor heereafter named

Item I give and bequeath unto the poore people of the parish of St. Lawrence aforesaid Five pounds to bee paid and putt over into the hands of Robert Sprakeling Esqr. of the said parishe whome I doe heereby intreate to imploy the same or cause the same to bee imployed and the yearely p[ro]fitt arisinge thereof to bee paid or cause to bee paid over unto the head Churchwarden of the said parishe for the tyme beeing and by him to bee equally distributed betweene Eight or Fower such poore aged people as hee shall thinke meetest att or on the Feast day of St. Andrew for ever

Item I give unto Emblyn Arthur an ould servant of myne Twentie shillings to bee paid unto her within six monethes after my decease
And my will and meaning is that my Executor shall have such a speciall care of her that shee doe not want duringe the tyme of her naturall life

Item I give and bequeath unto Vincent Mitchell, Richard Mitchell, Adam Mitchell and Mary Mitchell the Children of Richard Mitchell late of the parishe of St. Lawrence aforesaid in liewe of their severall porcons bequeathed by their said late father fowerscore pounds That is to say unto Vincent Mitchell Thirtie pounds; unto Richard Mitchell Tenn pounds; unto Adam Mitchell twenty pounds and unto Mary Mitchell twentie pounds To bee paid unto them att their severall ages of one and twenty yeares

Item I give and bequeath unto Joane Eason my daughter the wife of Roger Eason Five pounds to bee paid her within six monethes after my decease
Item I give unto the Children of my said daughter Joane Five pounds a peece to bee paid unto them by their father Roger Eason out of a certaine Boate that was late purchased of ________________ called ________________ which boate was purchased unto the said Roger with soe much of my money which said boate I give and bequeath unto the said Roger Eason my sonne in Lawe hee performing and paying the aforesaid legacies unto my aforesaid daughters children respectively att their severall ages of two and twentie yeares

Item I give and bequeath unto my Goodsonn Edward Fagge three pounds To bee paid unto him within six monethes after my decease
Item I give and bequeath unto the rest of the Children of William Fagge which hee had by my daughter Anne deceased Fortey shillings a peece To bee paid unto them when they shall Accomplishe their severall ages of two and twentie yeares

Item I give and bequeath unto my daughter Mary the wife of William Laurence Five pounds To bee paid unto her within six monethes after my decease
Item I give unto my Godson Edward Lawrence Five pounds To bee paid unto him within six monethes after my decease
Item I give and bequeath unto the rest of the Children of William Lawrence which hee now hath by my daughter Mary fower pounds a peice To bee paid unto them when they shall Accomplishe their severall ages of two and twenty yeares

Item I give and bequeath unto my sonne Edward Harnett of Thorne in Minster in Thanett one hundred pounds to bee paid unto him Five yeares after my decease
Item I give and bequeath unto Edward Harnett the second sonne of my Late sonne Henry deceased Fifty pounds to bee paid unto him when hee shall accomplishe the age of Two and twentie yeares
Item I give and bequeath unto John Harnett the third sonne of my said sonn Henry Fifty pounds To bee paid to him att his age likewise of Two and twentie yeares
And if it happen yt the said Edward Harnett or John Harnett dy before they shall attaine their said ages of two and twentie yeares Then my will and meaning is That the Survivor shall bee the others heire to receive the legacy abovesaid And if both dy before they bee of age Then my Will and meaning is that their p[or]cons before given shall come unto Henry Harnett their brother my Executor

I give and bequeath unto Elizabeth Harnett, Anne Harnett, Mary Harnett and Alice Harnett, the daughters of my aforesaid sonn Henry Fifty pounds a peece to bee paid unto every one of them respectively when they shall Accomplish their severall ages of two and twenty yeares or att their day or daies of Marriage wch shall first happen (if they live soe longe)

Item I give and bequeath unto Ann my now Wife Tenn pounds to bee paid unto her within six monethes after my decease And all her houhoild stuffe goods and Chattells as was hers before our marriage and is now Remayning in her house att Manston in the parish of St. Laurence aforesaid And my will and meaninge is that shee shall enjoy her Jointure out of my Lands according to the true meaning thereof and also shall have her dwelling in my now dwelling house untill the Michaelmas after my decease

Item I give and bequeath unto Thomas Harnett my sonne begotten and borne from the body of Anne my now wife and unto his heires for ever One little Tenement with Thappurtens [The appurtenances] and halfe an Aker and twenty perches of land thereunto appertayninge now in the Tenure and Occupat[io]n of one William Holhabee ther(e) of the land more or lesse
Provided allwaies that my Godson and heire Henry my Executor heerein specified for himselfe and his heires and assignes have allwaies a sufficient Carriage way to Carry and recarry to and fro the Five Acres their

Item I give and bequeath unto my sonn Thomas Harnett aforesaid Eightskore pounds to bee paid unto him when he shall Accomplish his age of two and twentie yeares yf hee the said Thomas Harnett shall bee soe longe
Item I give and bequeath unto my said sonn Thomas Harnett a yearlie Rent of tenn pounds out of my Messuage, Mansion house and Lands to bee paid unto him the said Thomas toward his Educacon and bringing upp untill hee shall attain his said age of Two and twenty yeares (if hee the said Thomas live so longe) And my desire is that my heire and the Executor heereafter named see that hee be brought upp well and use him Freindly and lovingly soe long as hee liveth

Item the Residue of all goods and Chattles and p[er]sonall estate whatsoever before not bequeathed I give and bequeath unto my Goodson and heire Henry Harnett the eldest sonne of my late sonne Henry aforesaid, whome I doe heereby nominate make and appoint and ordaine the Executor of this my Testament and Last will
And I doe heereby nominate and appoint my sonne Edward Harnett to be Overseer of the same and Tutor and Guardian unto my said Executor untill he shall Accomplish his age of Two and twenty yeares att wch tyme my will and meaning is that hee the said Edward my sonne shall make and give upp a true and perfect accompt unto my said Executor of all such some and somes of money as shall by any way or meanes come unto his hands by vertue of this my Testam[en]t and last will and shall pay unto him all such some and some of money as shallbe then remayninge due uppon the same

Item I give unto my said sonne Edward Harnett Guardian unto my said Executor Four pounds yeerely untill my said Executor Cometh of age for and towards his paines to bee taken in and about the p[er]formance of this my Testament and Last will in the behalfe of my said Executor not doubtinge but that hee will be ready to doe till the Offices of love and Freindship for him that if my said Executor dy before his age of Two and twenty yeeres without heires males of his bodye lawfully begotten Then I will that Edward the second sonne of my said sonn Henry shallbe Executor of this my Testament and Last will
And I will and appoint that my said sonne Edward shallbee Tutor and Guardian unto the said Edward Harnett the second sonne of my said sonn Henry until hee shall Accomplish his age of Two and twentie yeeres And if hee the said Edward Harnett the second sonne of my said sonn Henry shall dy before this age of Two and twentie yeeres without heires males of his bodye Lawfully to bee begotten Then I will that John Harnett the third sonne of my said sonne Henry shallbee Executor of this my last will and Testament
And th[a]t my said sonn Edward Harnett shallbe Tutor and guardian unto the said John Harnett untill hee shall attaine the age of two and twenty yeeres to all Intents and purposes before Expressed under the name of my said Nephew Henry Harnett Executor aforesaid

And if (it) soe bee that my said sonne Edward Harnett shall refuse to take upon him the Tuition and Guardianshipp of my said Executor or doe dy before my said Executor cometh unto his age of Two and twentie yeares as aforesaid Then I doe will and appoint Mary the mother of my said Executor to bee his Tutor and guardian to all Intents and purposes before expressed under the name of my said sonne Edward

Item I give and devise unto my godson and heire Henry Harnett the eldest sonne of my said sonne Henry and Executor by vertue of this my Last will All that my Messuage and Mansion house, barnes, Stables, buildings, Outhouses, Courte yards, Orchards, gardens and all my lands thereunto belonging with their and every of their Appurt's Scituate lyeing and beeng att or neere a Certaine place Comonly called and knowne by the name of Spritting Streete [Spratling Street] in the p[ar]ishe of St. Lawrence within the said Isle of Thanett in the said County of Kent aforesaid and to the heires males of his body Lawfully to bee begotten

And for default of such yssue unto Edward Harnett his brother and to his heires males of his body lawfully to bee begotten
And for default of such yssue unto John Harnett his brother and unto the heires Males of his body lawfully to bee begotten
And for default of such yssue unto my said sonn Edward Harnett and unto his heires Males of his body Lawfully befotten or to bee begotten
And for default of such yssue unto my sonne Thomas Harnett that I have begotten on the body of Anne my now wife and to the heires males of his body lawfully to bee begotten
And for default of such yssue unto the right heires of mee the said Edward Harnett for ever

Item my will and meaning is that all the Ann[ui]ties and yearely Rents which are heereby given and bequeathed by mee shallbee paid att the foure usuall quarter daies in the yeare, That is to say, att the Feasts of the Nativity of our Lord Christ, Th'annunciacion of our blessed Lady the virgen Mary; the Nativity of St. John the Baptist and St. Michaell Th'archangell by even and equall porcons The first paym[en]t to Comense att the same of the said Feastes wch shall next follow after my death
And if the said Annuties and yearely Rents or any of them or any p[ar]te of any of them shall remaine and [be] unpaid over and above fourteene daies after any of the said Feasts or daies of payment in which is as aforesaid it ought to bee paid That then and soe often it shallbee lawfull for them or any of them their Guardians and assignes to whome the Rent or Rents so to bee behind as is aforesaid respectivelie shallbee due to distraine for the same in all or any parte or parcell of my said lands and Tenemts out of wch the same is yssueing and ought to bee [paid] and to deteyne the distresses or distresse soe taken untill hee shee or they shallbee satisfied and paid All arrearages and all his her or their Costs and Damages in that behalfe to bee sustayned

Lastly my will and meaning is that all the legacies wch are heerein bequeatyhed by mee shallbee paid by my said Executor in good and Lawfull money of England And so desiring my said Executor to pay all my debts and to see my Funerall expences discharged, Revoking all former wills until this my Testament and last will I have sett my hand and seale in the pr[esen]ce of those whose names are heere subscribed

A Coddicill Nuncupative
- uttered and declared by Edward Harnett the Elder late of the parish of St. Laurence in the Isle of Thanett and Countie of Kent deceased Att or about the second daie of the moneth of July Anno dini 1637 beeing then sicke in body and in p'fect mynd and memory with an Intent and purpose all (to) Add and annex the same unto his Last will and Testament by him formerly made in the prsents and hearing of severall witnesses as followeth, vizt.

The said Edward Harnett affirmed that his grandchild Henry Harnett whome hee had made Executor of his will is now growne up unto sufficient skill and ability to follow his business and manage his estate himself and therefore his will and mynd was that the said Henry Harnett should occupy his farme himselfe and Deale in his psonall estate without the assistance helpe or direccons of his gardian or used words to the very like effect and substance

Edward Harnett, senior was buried at St. Lawrence, Isle of Thanet, Kent on 7 Jul 1637.
Edward Harnett married Mary Lytherer 26 Jul 1591 at St. Lawrence.
Edward's known children: 2 Jul 1592 Thomas; 13 Jan 1593/94 Joane; 4 Sep 1597 Anne; 11 Nov 1599 Henry – all at St. Lawrence;
and: 4 Dec 1603 Edward – at St. Mary the Virgin, Minster, Isle of Thanet, Kent.
Mary wife of Edward Harnet was buried 6 May 1630 at St. Lawrence.
Edward Harnett married Ann Holmes or Holman 29 Jul 1634 at St. Lawrence.
Joane married Roger Eason 28 Jan 1613/14 at St. Lawrence, aged 20.
Daughter Anne Harnet married William Fagge 31 Jul 1617 at St. Lawrence.
Daughter Mary's marriage was by Licence: Lawrence, William, of Guston, husbandman and Mary Harnett of St. Lawrence in Thanet, virgin. At St. Margaret's, Cant(erbury), 13 Oct 1617. Edward Harnett of St. Lawrence, Yeoman, bondsman.
Son Henry Harnett married Mary Abbot 16 Jan 1619/20 at St. Lawrence. He had sons Henry baptised 21 Jan 1621/22; Edward bt. 13 Jun 1624 & John bt. 12 Dec 1630. Henry was buried at St. Lawrence 25 May 1632
Thomas son of Edward Harnett was baptised 1 May 1636 at St. Lawrence.
