This is the last Will and Testament of me Francis Hartridge of Leeds in the County of Kent Yeoman made published and Declared this twenty second day of September in the Year of our Lord Christ one thousand seven hundred and eighty eight

First I Give Devise and Bequeath unto my loving wife Mercy Hartridge one Annuity or clear yearly Sum of sixteen pounds of lawful Money of Great Britain for and during the term of her natural Life to be Issuing and payable out of all those the Messuages Tenements or Cottages Buildings Lands Heredits. [Hereditaments] and Premises which I sometime since purchased to me and my Heirs of and from John Sanders situate in Leeds aforesaid which said Annuity I hereby Will and Direct shall be paid unto my said Wife or her Assigns by even and equal Quarterly Payments at the four most usual Feasts or Days of Payment in the Year (that is to say) on the Feasts of Saint Michael the Archangel, the Birth of our Lord Christ, the Annunciation of the blessed Virgin Mary and the feast of Saint John the Baptist in every year

And my Will further is that in Case the said Annuity of Sixteen pounds a year or any part thereof shall be behind or unpaid for the space of twenty one Days next over or after any of the said Days of Payment whereon the same is Directed to be paid as aforesaid that then it shall and may be lawful to and for my said Wife Mercy or her Assigns into the said Messuages Tenement or Cottages Lands Heredits. and Premises Chargeable with the Payment thereof as aforesaid or into any part thereof to enter and Distrain for the same and the Distress and Distresses then and there found to take lead Drive Carry away or Impound and Impounded to sell and Dispose of the same or any part or parts thereof until the said Annuity and al Arrears are thereof together with the Costs and Charges of such Distress or Distresses shall have been fully satisfied contented and paid
And I also Direct that the first Payment of the said Annuity shall be made on the first or next of the said Feast Days which shall happen after my decease

Lastly after Debts Funeral Expences Probation of this my Will and other incident Charges and Expences all the Rest and Residue of my Goods ready Money and Securities for Money Chattels Effects and Personal Estate whatsoever that I shall die possessed of or entitled unto I hereby Give and Bequeath unto my two Daughters Mary Hartridge and Frances Hartridge equally share and share alike to be paid unto them at their respective Ages of twenty one Years

And I do hereby nominate and appoint my Brother William Hartridge and his Son Francis Hartridge Joint Executors of this my Will and Guardians and Trustees to my said Daughters until they shall attain their said ages of twenty one years and hereby revoking all former Wills by me heretofore made I do declare this writing to be and contain my last Will and Testament

In Witness whereof I the said Francis Hartridge the Testator to this my last Will set my hand and seal the day and year first above written

This is a Codicil to the last Will and Testament of me Francis Hartridge of Leeds in Kent Yeoman made published and declared the second day of September [actually 22nd day] one thousand seven hundred and eighty eight

Whereas I have in and by my said Will given and bequeathed unto my loving wife Mercy Hartridge one Annuity or Clear Yearly Sum of sixteen pounds of lawful Money of Great Britain to be paid and payable as therein is mentioned
Now I do by this Codicil where I will and direct shall be annexed to and taken as part of my said Will add to the said Annuity the further yearly Sum of Four pounds making together the Sum of twenty pounds for and during the Term of her natural Life Charged and made payable at the times and in manner as in my said Will is mentioned

And I do by this Codicil Give and Bequeath unto Rebecca Wickham living as Servant with me the Sum of twenty pounds to be paid her by my Executors within six Months next after my Decease

and hereby ratifying and Confirming my said will in all other respects I have hereunto set my hand and Seal the sixteenth day of February one thousand seven hundred and ninety three

This Will was proved at London with a Codicil the seventeenth Day of March in the year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred and ninety Five before the Worshipful John Fisher Doctor of Laws Surrogate of the Right Honourable Sir William Wynne Knight also Doctor of Laws Master Keeper or Commissary of the Prerogative Court of Canterbury lawfully constituted by the Oaths of William Hartridge the Brother and Francis Hartridge the Nephew of the deceased and the Executors named in the said Will to whom Administration of all and singular the Goods Chattels and Credits of the said Deceased eas granted having been first sworn duly to Administer.
