In the Name of God Amen the twelveth day of July in the yeare of or Lord 1661
I Edward Hogben of Wickering in the parish of Elham in the county of Kent the elder yeoman being of perfect memory(God be praised) doe make and declare my last will and testament in manner and forme following (that is to say)
First I comend my soule to Allmighty God hopeing assuredly through the meritts of Jesus Christ my only saviour and redeemer of p[ar]don and remission of all my sinns and salvacon of my soule And my body to be buried in decent and Christian like manner of buriall at ye discrecon of my Executor heereafter named

Item I give and bequeath unto the minister that shall preach at my funerall the sume of twenty shillings
Item I give and bequeath unto Priscilla my loving wife the two bedstedles standing in the best chamber in my messuage wherein I nowe live with the bedds bedding and all other furniture to them belonging, six joyned stooles and one table standing in the same chamber and all the howshold stuffe and furniture therein, three silver spoones and two small beere barrells, two round bowles and one shalbe halfe a quarter of wheat and halfe a quarter of barley

Item I give and bequeath unto John Beane my sonne in lawe twenty pounds to be payd unto him by my Executor within two yeares next after my decease in full payment and satisfaction of all the marriage porcon wch I promised him in marriage wth Alice my daughter
Item I give and bequeath unto Susanna my daughter the sume of Fiftie pounds of lawfull money of England to be paid unto her within one yeare next after my decease by my Executor, one feather bed belonging to the truckle bed standing in my parlour, one paire of good sheetes, two pewter platters, one silver spoone And one chest standing in the servants chamber

Item I give and bequeath unto my daughter Rebecca the sume of Fiftie pounds of lawfull money of England to be paid unto her within one yeare next after my decease by my Executor or within three monethes next after her marriage if shee marry within one yeare after my decease, one paire of good sheetes, two pewter platters, one silver spoone, one chest standing in the servants chamber, one of the featherbeds whereon I now ly in this my sicknesse And one fatt hogg of a yeare and a halfe old
Item I give and bequeath unto Anna my daughter the sume of Fiftie pounds of lawfull money of England to be paid unto her within one yeare next after my decease by my Executor, one paire of good sheetes, two pewter platters, one silver spoone, one of the featherbeds whereon I now ly in this my sicknes

Item I give and bequeath unto the said Priscilla my wife the one halfe of all the residue of all my linnen And also the moyety of all my pewter and brasse not before disposed of
And the other moyety thereof together with all and singular other my goodes and chattells whatsoever not before bequeathed I give and bequeath unto my sonne Edward towards the payment of my debts and legacies
And I ordeine and make the said Edward my sonne to be Executor of this my last will and testament

This is the last will and testament of mee the said Edward Hogben made and declared the day and yeare aboves[ai]d touching and concerning all my lands tenem[en]ts & hereditam[en]ts with thappurtennces [the appurtenances] scituate lying & being in Elham aforesaid and in the parishes of Arcis [Acrise] and Paddlesworth in the said county of Kent

Item I give and bequeath unto the said Priscilla my wife the use of the best chamber in the messuage wherein I now live and free liberty to goe & come to and from the same and liberty to fetch water and brewe and bake in the kitchen at all tymes convenient during her naturall life
Also I give and bequeath unto the said Priscilla one annuity or yearly rent chardge of sixteene pounds of lawfull money of England to be issueing and going out of all that messuage wherein I nowe live (except the said chamber) and all the lands to the same belonging or apperteyning or with the same usually occupied letten and enjoyed with their appurtenncs in satisfaccon of her dower
To have and to hold to her and her assignes during her naturall life at fower feasts or termes in the yeare, that is to say, att the feasts of the birth of or Lord and saviour Jesus Christ, the Annunciacion of or blessed Lady Mary the virgin, The feast of St. John the Baptist And the feast of St. Michaell tharchangell by equall and even porcons to be paid, the first payment thereof to begin and be made in and upon that feast of the feasts aforesaid wch shall next happen after my decease

And if it shall happen the said annuity or yearly rent chardge to be behinde or unpaid in part or in all over or after any of the said feasts in wch as aforesaid the same ought to be payd that then and from thenceforth and att all tymes after it shall and my be lawfull to and for the said Priscilla & her assignes into all my said messuage lands & prmisses with thappurtenccs (except before excepted) or into any part or p[ar]cell thereof to enter and distreyne And the distresse and distresses then and there found and taken lawfully to leade drive carry away impound and keepe untill the said annuity or yearly rent chardge shall be fully satisfied and paid
Allso I give unto Priscilla my wife 200 of good faggotts yearly during her life to be layed downe att her dwelling howse by my said sonne Edward

And lastly I give and bequeath unto the said Edward my sonne his heires and assignes for ever All and singular my said lands and tenemts wth thappurtenncs in Elham, Acris and Paddlesworth aforesaid
Provided allwayes that if my personall estate devised to my sonne Edward will not amount to the payment of my debts and legacies then my will is that the same shall be paid out of my lands & tenements devised to my sonne Edward and his heires

Edward Hogben married by Marriage Licence:
Hogben, Edward, of Elham, Yeoman, bachelor, about 34 and Priscilla Joad, same parish, virgin, about 24, whose parents are dead. At St. George the Martyr, Canterbury on 14 Oct 1619.
Edward Hogbyn was bap. 14 Jan 1586, s. of Thomas, at St. Mary the Virgin, Elham, Kent.
Daughter Alice Hogben married John Beane 24 Jul 1654 at nearby St. Martin, Acrise, Kent.
Daughter Susanna Hogben was bap. 19 Aug 1633 at Elham, d. of Edward.
Daughter Rebecca Hogben was bap. 7 Sep 1634 at Elham, d. of Edward and Priscilla.
Daughter Anna Hogben was bap. 15 Dec 1644 at Elham, d. of Edward.
Son Edward Hogben was bap. 3 Oct 1638 at Elham, s. of Edward and Priscilla.
Priscilla Hogbin was buried in woollen 7 Sep 1679 at Elham.
