In the Name of God Amen I Edward Hogben the Elder of drills in Elham in the County of Kent yeom[an] weake in body but of sound and perfect minde and memory (praised be God for the same) doe make and declare this my last will and Testam[en]t in manner and forme following
First I give and bequeath my soule into the hands of Almighty God trusting assuredly in and through the meritts of Jesus Christ my Redeemer to be eternally saved and my body I comitt to the earth to be Christian like buryed at (the) discrecon of my Executor hereafter named

And touching the disposicon of all my goods Chattells moveables and household stuffe whatsoever, my debts and funerall expences discharged I doe deviose give and bequeath the same wholly unto Edward Hogben my son who I doe make and ordaine sole Executor of this my last will and Testament

This is the last will and Testament of me the said Edward Hogben the elder Touching and concerning all my messuages lands Tenements and hereditam[en]ts whatsoever with their appurtenances scituate sett lying and being in the parishes of Elham and Liming [Lyminge?] or else where in the County of Kent aforesaid

All which I doe devise give & bequeath unto my said sonne Edward Hogben To have and to hold all my said messuages lands Tenements and hereditaments with their appurtenances (imediately from and after my decease) unto him my said sonne Edward and his heires and assignes forever
paying out of the same unto Mary Hogben and Elizabeth Hogben my two daughters and unto either of them the sume of one hundred and Fifty pounds apeece of Lawfull money of England for their severall porcons within the time or space of Five yeares next after the day of my death

And also paying out of the same yearely and every yeare after my decease unto my said two daughters Mary and Elizabeth and unto either of them during all the aforesaid Five yeares the sume of seaven pounds apeece of lawfull money of England in and upon the Feast daies of the Annunciacon of our blessed lady St. Mary the Virgin and St. Michael Tharchangell by even and equall porcons for and towards their maintenance in the meane time, the first payment thereof to begin and to be made in and upon the feast day of the feasts aforesaid which shall next happen after my decease

And if it shall happen the aforesaid sumes of one hundred and Fifty pounds apeece before given unto either of my said two daughters for their severall porcons or the said sume of seaven pounds by the yeare for their said maintenance untill their said porcon and porcons shall becoem due as aforesaid To be behind and unpaid in part or in all over or after any of the dayes or times before limitted and appointed for paym[en]t of the same That then and from thenceforth it shall and may be lawfull to and for them my said daughter or daughters their Executors & assignes to whom the aforesaid porcon or porcons or other sume or sumes to he or them limitted as aforesaid for mainteynance shall become due into all my aforesaid messuages lands Tenements and hereditaments with their appurtenances to enter and distreyne for the same
And the distresse and distresses then and there to be had found and taken lawfully to have take lead drive beare and carry away from thence And the same to impound detaine withhold and keepe untill her or their portion or portions aforesaid or other sume or sumes for her or their meaintenance as aforesaid due and unpaid be unto the said Mary and Elizabeth thier Executors and assignes together withall Costs and charges in that behalfe sustained (be) fully satisfied and paid

Provided alwayes and my will and true meaning is That if the said Mary or Elizabeth shall die unmarryed or without any child of her body lawfully begotten living before such time as her said portion soe dying shall become due as afores[ai]d That then the survivor of them my said two daughters shall have the portion afore limitted to her soe dying and all other sume or sumes that should have been paid for maintenance of her my said daughter soe dying [crossed out: with all other sume or sums that should have been paid for maintenance of her my said daughter soe dying] with all advantage for recovery of such porcon and maintenance as she my said daughter soe dying should have and if she had lived

Item I give unto Alice Greenland my eldest daughter the sume of Fifty pounds of lawfull money of England to be paid unto her my said daughter by my said Executor out of the rents issues and profitts of all my aforesaid messuages lands Tenements and hereditaments within Five yeares next after my decease And that she my said daughter Alice may have the use & benefitt of the aforesaid Fifty pounds from thence during all the terme of her naturall life
And after the decease of her my said daughter Alice Then I give the said Fifty pounds unto Edward sonne of my said daughter Alice and to his Executors and assignes

And if it shall happen the aforesaid sume of Fifty pounds before limitted unto my said daughter Alice and Edward her said sonne to be behind and unpaid in part or all after the time before limitted for payment thereof That then and from thenceforth it shall and may be lawfull to and for the said Alice or the said Edward her son after the death of the said Alice if she dye before the time limitted for payment as aforesaid or the assigns of the said Alice or Edward her son into the aforesaid messuages lands Tenements and hereditam[en]ts to enter and distraine for the same
And the distresse and distresses then and there to be had found and taken lawfully to have take lead drive beare and carry away from thence and the same to impound detayne with hold and keepe untill the aforesaid sume of Fifty pounds and every part thereof and all Costs and charges in that behalfe sustained be unto her or him fully satisfied and paid

In witnes whereof I the said Edward Hogben thelder have hereunto putt my hand and seale dated the seaventeenth day of December in the yeare of our Lord God 1668

Edward Hogben was buried at St. Mary the Virgin, Elham, Kent on 24 Dec 1668.
Edward Hogben, aged 22, Husbandman of Elham whose mother consents, m. Mary Sladden, aged 18 whose parents are dead. 19 Oct 1643 at Denton or Wootton by Licence.
Daughter Alice bap. 18 Dec 1644 at St. Mary the Virgin, Elham, Kent. She married Augustine Greenland 11 Jul 1667 at Elham.
