I Give and Devise unto my loving Wife Mary All that Messuage or Tenement commonly called or known by the Name of Blackhos... with the
Buildings Lands Hereditaments and Premises thereunto belonging situate lying and being in the parish of Elmested in the said County of Kent and
now or late in the Tenure or Occupation of John Champion of his Assigns or Undertenants To hold unto my said Wife her Heirs and Assigns
for ever
I Give and bequeath all and every my Household Goods, Plate, China, Linnen, Woollen, Rings and Wearing Apparel of all Sorts that I shall be
possessed of at the time of my decease unto my said Wife her Heirs Executors Administrators and Assigns for ever
I Give Devise and Bequeath All other my Messuages Lands Tenements Hereditaments and Real and Personal Estate whatsoever and wheresoever that I
shall be possessed of at the time of my Decease unto my said Wife for and during the Term of the Natural Life she paying out of the same my just
Debts Funeral Expences and the Charges of Proving this my last Will and all charges incident thereto
And my Will and Desire is that my Niece Mary Green who now lives with me shall continue to dwell and live with my said Wife for and during
their Joint Lives and that my said Wife do and shall so long as they shall continue to live together find Provide and allow her my said Niece
sufficient Meat, Drink, Washing, Lodging and Wearing Apparel of all sorts fit for a Person in her Station of Life to have and wear and every other
Matter and Thing Necessary for her Maintenance and Support
And if it shall at any time happen not to be agreable to them my said Wife and Niece to live together in manner aforesaid Then and in such case I Give and Bequeath unto the said Mary Green the Sum of Ten Pounds of lawful Money of Great Britain Clear from all Deductions and Abatements whatsoever to be paid her Yearly by my said Wife so long as they shall both live by four Quarterly Payments at the four most usual Days and times of payment of Rent in the year (that is to say) the Fifth day of January, Fifth day of April, Fifth day of July and the Tenth day of October, the first payment thereof to be made on such of the said Days as shall first and next happen after my said Wife and Niece Mary Green shall agree to live apart And I do hereby subject and charge all and singular my said Messuages Lands Tenements Hereditaments and Real and Personal Estate herein before devised and Bequeathed unto my said Wife for and during the Term of her Natural Life with the Payment thereof
And immediately after the Decease of my said Wife I Give and Dispose of all my said Messuages Lands Tenements Hereditaments Real and Personal Estate hereinbefore devised and bequeathed unto my said Wife for and during the Term of her Natural Life in manner following (that is to say)
I Give Devise and Bequeath unto the said Mary Green and her Assigns (if she shall be then living) for and during the Term of her Natural Life One Annuity or Yearly Rent Charge of Forty Shillings of lawful Money of Great Britain Free and Clear from all manner of Taxes and other Deductions and Abatements whatsoever Parliamentary or otherwise to be issuing and payable out of All that my Messuage or Tenement Smith's Forge Land Hereditaments and all and singular other the Premises thereunto belonging situate lying and being in the parish of Stanford in the said County of Kent hereinafter devised unto my Nephew John Hogben and his Heirs for ever and to be paid and payable by equal Quarterly Payments at the Four most usual days and times of Payment of Rent in the year (that is to say) the Fifth day of January, Fifth day of April, Fifth day of July and the Tenth day of October, the first payment thereof to be made on such of the said Days as shall first and next happen after my said Wife's Decease
I Give Devise and Bequeath unto the said Mary Green and her Assigns after the Decease of my said Wife for and during the Term of her Natural Life if she shall be then living One other Annuity or Yearly Rent Charge of Eight Pounds of like lawful Money Free and Clear from all manner of Taxes and Deductions whatsoever Parliamentary or otherwise to be issuing and payable out of all that my Messuage or Tenement Malthouse Buildings Lands Hereditaments and all and singular other the Premisses thereunto belonging situate lying and being in the parish of Stouting [Stowting] in the said County of Kent hereinafter Devised to my Nephew Isaac Hogben and his Heirs for ever
And my Will is that in Case the said Annuities or Yearly Rents of Forty Shillings and Eight Pounds or any part of thereof shall be behind or unpaid by the Space of Twenty one Days next over or after either of the said Days and times whereon the same Annuities or Yearly Rents of Forty Shillings and Eight Pounds are hereinbefore directed to be paid then and so often it shall and may be lawfull to and for the said Mary Green and her Assigns to enter into and upon the said Messuages Lands Tenements and Hereditaments and Premisses respectively chargeable with the same and to distrain thereon for the same Annuities or Yearly Rents or for so much and such part thereof as shall be then in Arrear and also for all Costs Charges Damages and Expences occasioned by Non payment thereof And the Distress and Distresses then or there found to take lead Drive and carry away and Impound and in Pound to detain and keep or otherwise to sell according to the Direction of an Act of Parliament made in the Second year of the Reign of King William and Queen Mary Intitled an Act for Enabling the Sale of Goods distrained for Rent in Case the Rent be not paid in a reasonable time
I Give and Devise unto my said Nephew John Hogben All that my said Messuage or Tenement Smith's Forge Lands Hereditaments and all and Singular other the Premisses thereunto belonging Situate lying and being in the parish of Stanford aforesaid in the said County of Kent and now or late in the Tenure or Occupation of the said John Hogben or his Assigns To hold to him the said John Hogben his Heirs and Assigns for ever (Subject to the Payment of the said Annuity or Yearly Rent Charge of Forty Shillings hereinbefore devised and bequeathed unto my said Niece Mary Green for and during the Term of her Natural Life)
I Give and Devise unto my said Nephew Isaac Hogben All that my said Messuage or Tenement Malthouse Buildings Lands Hereditaments and all and singular other the Premises thereunto belonging situate lying and being in the parish of Stouting aforesaid in the said County of Kent and now or late in the Tenure or Occupation of the said Isaac Hogben or his Assigns To hold to him the said Isaac Hogben his Heirs and Assigns for ever (Subject to the Payment of the said Annuity or Yearly Rent Charge of Eight Pounds hereinbefore devised and Bequeathed unto my said Niece Mary Green for and during the Term of her Natural Life)
I Give and Bequeath unto my Nephew Thomas Crux the Sum of Fifty Pounds of lawful Money of Great Britain
I Give and bequeath unto my Niece Mrs. Mary Moss the Sum of Forty Pounds of like lawful Money of Great Britain
I Give and bequeath unto William Rigden Son of my Nephew William Rigden the Sum of Fifty Pounds of like lawful Money of Great Britain

I Give and bequeath unto my said Niece Sarah Knatchbull the Sum of Forty Pounds of like lawful Money
I Give and bequeath unto the two Children of my late Nephew Samuel Broadbridge deceased the Sum of Twenty Pounds of like lawful Money to be equally divided between them share and share alike But if either of the said Two Children of my said late Nephew Samuel Broadbridge deceased shall happen to die before the time hereinafter limited and appointed for the payment thereof Then I Give and bequeath the Share of him or her so dying unto the Survivor of them who shall be living at the time the said Legacy shall become due and payable
I Give Devise and bequeath all the Rest Residue and Remainder of my Real and Personal Estate whatsoever and wheresoever of what Nature Kind Quality or Condition soever after the Decease of my said Wife unto my Nephew William Crux of Elham Yeoman and the said John Hogben equally to be divided between them share and share alike and to take as Tenants in Common and not as joint Tenants and to their Heirs and Assigns for ever
Subject to the Payment of all and every the Legacies hereinbefore by me given and bequeathed which
said Legacies I do Order and direct shall be paid within Six Calendar Months next after the Decease of
my said Wife (Except it shall happen that any of the Legatees hereinbefore shall not at that Time have
Attained his her or their full Ages if Twenty one Years
Then I Do hereby Order and direct that the Legacy or Legacies of him her or them that shall not then
have Attained his her or their respective Age or Ages of Twenty one Years shall not be paid until he
her or they shall have attained his her or their respective Age or Ages of Twenty one Years
And if any one or more of the Legatees hereinbefore mentioned shall happen to die before the Legacy or Legacies to him her or them hereinbefore given and bequeathed shall become due and payable leaving no husband Wife or lawful Issue Surviving then and in such Case I Give and bequeath the Legacy or Legacies of him her or them so dying unto my said Nephew William Crux and John Hogben equally to be divided between them share and share alike
And Lastly I do hereby Nominate Constitute and appoint my said Wife Mary Sole Executrix of this my last Will and Testament for and during the Term of her Natural Life and from and immediately after her Death I Nominate constitute and Appoint my said Nephew William Crux and John Hogben Joint Executors of the same
In Witness whereof I the said William Hogben have to this my last Will and Testament contained in these Five Sheets of Paper together annexed to
the first four Sheets thereof Set my hand and to the fifth and last Sheet thereof my hand and Seal Dated the Day and year first above written

The before Registered Will of William Hogben deceased was proved the 4th day of July 1782 before the Reverend George Hearne, Clerk, Surrogate to the Worshipful Andrew Coltee Duracell, Doctor of Laws, Commissary General of the City and Diocese of canterbury, lawfully constituted by the oath of Mary Hogben the sole Executrix for Life, named in the said Will, She being first Sworn well and truly to perform the same.
Notes:
William Hogben was buried at SS Mary & Ethelburga, Lyminge, Kent on 14th June 1782, aged 73.
William was baptised at St. Mary the Virgin, Stowting, Kent on 19th Aug 1708, s. of David Hogben.
