Item I will and bequeath unto Alice Wood my owne Sister late the wife of one [blank space] Jufield of Newe Rumney [New Romney] deceased and to her 2 children all my householde stuffe bedding bedes and linnen and what else of the nature whereof I now and at this instant stand possessed
As for the rest of all my goods and chattells both within doores and without doores of what nature and qualities soever, with all the right or leases I have in foure lands wch [which] I now occupie and enioy I will and bequeath them to Mr. Edward Masters and Thomas Smith my Brother both of Lidd [Lydd] and to their heires they bringing both my now children William and Mary Holmes up and educating them afteer the best manner they can and the abilities I leave and bequeath them will afford, and keeping them in decent manner and well apparelled till they hsall attaine each of them to the age of one and twentie yeares (if they shall soe long live) and when they shall accomplish the age of one and twentie yeares a peece paying to each of them a peece tene pounds of Currant English money
Item my will is that my Brother Thomas Smith shall have the bringing up of my sonne William Holmes till he comes to full age of one and twentie yeares and for soe bringing him up to have the one halfe of my goods and chattells aforesayd, he paying him tenn pounds of lawfull English money when he comes to one and twentie yeares
And Mr. Master of Lidd aforesayd the bringing up of Mary Holmes my daughter till she come to one and twentie yeares of age and for soe bringing her up to have and enioy the other halfe of my goods and chattels as aforesayd, he paying her likewise tenn pounds of Currant English money when she shal attaine to the full age of one and twentie yeares likewise
Item my will is that Mr. Edward Master my Brother Thomas Smyth aforesayd out of the aforesayd goods and chattells bequeathed them shall see discharged a debt of fourtie shillings wch I owe and all my Funerall expences and chardges wch about this my will and the proveing the same in Court shall be disbursed
And of this my last will and testament I make my loveing friends Mr. Edward Masters and my Brother Thomas Smyth of Lidd aforesayd my Executors
This will of here was made she being in p�fect [perfect] memorie the 30th day of January 1638(9)

Notes:
Rebecca Holmes, Widow of William Holmes, was buried 31st January 1639 at St. George, Ivychurch.
William Holmes married in 1629 by Licence:
William Holmes abt. 34, Widower, Yeoman of Lydd and Rebecca Gurner of the same age, Widow of
Peter Gurner, also of Lydd. Married 3rd June 1629 at All Saints, Canterbury.
William Homes was baptised 26th December 1596 at Lydd, s. of William Homes and Alice (nee Broughton). William Homes senior had married Alice Broughton on 24th July 1594 at All Saints, Lydd.
Children mentioned in the Will are christened:
23 Dec 1627: William, s. of William Holmes at Lydd; 1 Feb 1628: Mary to William at Lydd. Another
child, Elizabeth (christened at Lydd 16 Jul 1626) appears to have died there before the making of Rebecca�s Will.
Accordingly, these were Rebecca�s stepchildren from William�s first marriage to Elizabeth Wiatt, Widow,
on 23rd August 1625 at Lydd. Elizabeth Holmes died and is buried at Lydd on 8th January 1627, Wife of William.
