In the name of God Amen
I Matthew Holmes of the pish [parish] of Eastchurch within the Isle of Sheppey and County of Kent, Yeoman, being weake of body but of perfect minde and memory (praised be God) doe revokeing disannulling and makeing void all other Testaments make this my last will and Testament in manner and forme following
First I bequeath my Soule to God who gave it mee hopeing for pardon through Christ Jesus my most blessed Saviour and Redeemer and my body to be decently buried at the discretion of my Executor whome I shall nowe after nominate

Item I give and bequeath unto my Grandchild Bridgett Homes the Sume of Eighteene pounds of good and lawfull money of England to be paid to the said Bridgett three years after my decease by my said Executor herefter nominated And in case my Grandchild Bridgett Holmes shall dye before the said Sume of Eighteene pounds be paid or payable That then my Will is that the said Sume of Eighteene pounds be paid to John Holmes Thomas Holmes and Roberta Holmes my kindred at the tyme aforesd. [aforesaid] in three equal shares or in case any of they (sic) dye to the longest liver or livers of them in manner and forme aforesaid

Item I give and bequeath unto my Kinsman John Holmes the dwelling house which I now dwell in with all the Lands and appurtenances thereunto belonging To have and to hold the said Tenement to him and hisheires for ever And allsoe all my goodes and chattells whatsoever

Item I give and bequeath unto my Kinsman Thomas Holmes one shillinge
Item I give and bequeath unto my Kinswoman Roberta Holmes one shillinge
Item I give and bequeath unto my Kinswoman Mary Marshall the sume of tenn shillings

And lastly I constitute nominate and make my welbeloved Kinsman John Holmes aforesaid my Executor of this my last will and Testament

In Witness whereof I doe hereunto put my hand and seale this one and twentieth day ofJanuary in the thirtieth yeare of our Soveraigne Lord Charles the Second by the grace of God of England Scotland France and Ireland King Defender of the Faith and in the Yeare of our Lord 1678.

Notes:
Matthew Holmes �an old man� was buried at All Saints, Eastchurch on 2nd March 1679.
Matthew was born and christened in Lynsted on 11th November 1599, s. of William Holmes.
His siblings: William 16 Aug 1590; Thomas 14 Nov 1591 (Bu: 4 Jul 1597); Thomas 18 Jun 1598; Jone 31 Oct 1604; Stephen 11 Feb 1609; Susan 2 Feb 1611; Dorothie 17 Oct 1613.
