I John Holm of the pishe [parish] of Eastchurch in the Isle of Sheppey in the County of Kent Yeoman being very sicke and weake but of p�fect [perfect] mind and memory praised be Allmighty God I doe make this my last will and Testament revoking all other in manner and forme following
First and before all things I bequeath my Soule into the hands of Allmighty God my Heavenly Father hopeing thro� [through] Jesus Christ his onely Son my Saviour to receive a full pardon and forgiveness of my Sins My Body I bequeath to the Earth to be decently interred att Eastchurch aforesaid [and] of my worldly goods which God of his mercies hath bestowed upon me I give ad bequeath in manner and forme followinge

Item I do give and bequeath unto Susan Wide my Maid Servant the Sume of three pounds of like lawful money of England to be paid her within one yeare next after my decease

Item I give unto Ann Holmes my Land and sk.....petly ? wise which hath absented herself from me the space and terme of tenn yeares the Sum of one shilling of like lawfull money of England to be paid her within one whole yeare next after my decease

Item I give and bequeath unto Ann Browne my neece the Sume of Eight pounds of like lawfull money fo England to be paid her att the age of one and twenty yeares att four payments yearly att forty shillings the yeare if the Overseers shall thinke fitting But if she marry before that age then to be paid at the day of her marriage But if it please God to take her before she comes to the age of one and twenty yeares or the day of marriage Item the said eight pounds shall be equally divided between John Holmes and Mary Holmes Son and Daughter to my Brother Thomas Holmes whome is deceased this p�sent life

Item I give unto the said Ann Holmes two pewter dishes and two pewter plates one pot brasse skillett one brass pott & one iron pott and one small chist with a Lock Key to it

Item my house and Lands and Tenements goods Chattells whatsoever being and lyeing wthin [within] the pish of Eastchurch or else where I give and bequeath unto John Holmes son of Thomas Holmes lately deceased who lives in the pish of St. Thomas the Apostle in Harty whome I do make connstitute and ordaine my onely Executor * of this my Last Will and Testament revokeing all others, him the said John Holmes paying unto his Sister Mary Holmes the Sume of Eighteen pounds of good and lawfull money of England att the age of Eighteen years or day of marriage that which shall happen first the performance of the abovesaid prmisses [premises]

I ordaine to be paid out of this house and Lands the h..geall? all to be kept in the house for them till they have occasion for it and then to be equally divided between the said John Holmes and Mary Holmes his Sister
Item I have my two cowes there att my house to help bring up the Children

I give and bequeath unto my Nephew Thomas Bradley one shilling of good and lawfull money of England to be paid one yeare after my decease
I give and bequeath unto Mary Bradly one shilling of good and lawfull money of England to be paid one yeare after my decease
I give and bequeath unto my Elisabeth Bradley one shilling of good and lawfull money of England to be paid one yeare after my decease
I give and bequeath unto Isaac Bradley one shilling of good and lawfull money of England to be paid one yeare after my decease

the p�formance [performance] of the abovesaid prmisses I ordaine and constitute John Smedley of the pish of Sittingbourne in the County of Kent Victualler and Daniel Lewis of the pishe of Eastchurch in the Isle of Sheppey Yeoman as to be Guardians of the abovesaid John and Mary Holmes and Ann Brown to employ to the best advantages the aforesaid demise to the abovesaid Children

In witness whereof [I] have thereunto sett our Handes and Seales the day and yeare abovesaid and in the tenth Yeare of the Raigne of our Soveraigne Lord William the Third King of England Scottland France and Ireland Anno Dini 1699

Notes:
As John and his siblings were probably born on or around the Commonwealth, it has not been able to find their christenings. It is, however, noted that a Stephen and Joan Homes were having children in Eastchurch right up to the commencement of the Commonwealth.
* John Holmes, s. of Thomas and Executor to this Testator�s Will was just 7� years old at the date of making the Will and 8 years when it was proved! The Testator notes his Sister Mary was not yet 18....

The John and Mary Holmes, son and daughter of the Testator�s Brother mentioned in the Will, were born and christened at St. Thomas the Apostle, Harty, on the Isle of Sheppey, to Thomas and Richarden Holmes thus: 14 Sep 1691: John; 25 Mar 1692: Mary. Their father Thomas, mentioned as �lately deceased� in the Will died and was buried 1st November 1692 at St. Thomas the Apostle, Harty.
