In the Name of God Amen the Eleventh Day of April 1780
I George Holmes of the Parish of Charing Yeoman in the County of Kent being in Sound and Perfect Memory do make and ordain this my last Will and Testament And as touching such Worldly Estate wherewith it has pleased God to bless me with in this Life I give Devise and Dispose of the same in the following manner and form

First I do ordain my Sister Elizabeth Holmes and my Cousin Robert May my Executors

To my Sister Elizabeth Holmes I give and Bequeath all my Worldly Estate and Effects that will remain after paying my lawful Debts and Legaces following, Upon Condition she the said Elizabeth Holmes doth not take up with and Cohabit with Thomas Burton if she doth by Proof then my Will is such that my Cousin Robert May shall have all my Estate except my Sister Elizabeth Holme�s third part

thirdly, it is my Will and Desire that my Executors shall sell my Effects then my Cousin Robert May to have Ten Pounds of the Money the Effects may Come to and the Remaining Part of the Money to be put out to use and my Sister Elizabeth Holmes to have the Interest and to take up the whole Principal when she pleases Supposing my Sister Elizabeth Holmes doth not Cohabit with the sad Thomas Burton

Fourthly I give and bequeath to my Brother�s Son George Holmes my Silver Watch

In Witness whereof I have hereunto set my Hand and Seal the day & Year above written

Signed sealed published and declared by the said George Holmes as his Last Will and Testament in the presence of us

The before Registered Will of George Holmes deceased was proved the 6th day of October 1781 before the Revd. George Hearne Clerk Surrogate to the Worshipful Andrew Collee Durcarel Doctor of Laws Commissary General of the City and Diocese of Canterbury lawfully constituted by the oath of Elizabeth Holmes one of the Executors named in the said Will She being first sworn well and truly to perform the same etc. Power being reserved to the [other] Executor.

Notes:
George Holmes is one of 3 children of William and Mary Holmes, all christened at Charing:
21 Aug 1730 John; 23 Mar 1734 Elizabeth; 27 Sep 1738 George.
He was buried 28th July 1781 at Pluckley

Elizabeth didn�t marry Thomas Burton. On 19th Nov. 1781 she married Philip Hook, Widower of Egerton, at Charing.

Parents William Holmes and Mary Sharpe married 22nd Nov. 1726 at Shadoxhurst. He was Ba. of Pluckley; She Sp. of Westwell. William was buried at Pluckley 16 Dec. 1754.
