And yn the xth yere of the Reign of kyng henry the viijth
I Sir Thomas Kempe knyght of Wye yn the countie of Kent Knight make my testaemtn and last will yn manr [manner] and forme foloweng [following]
First I bequeith my soule to Allmyghty God and my body to be buryed yn the parishe churche of Wye aforesaid yn the channcell of our lady beside the Sepulchre of my Grandfaders and Grandames

And I bequeith to the High Aut [Altar] of the same church yn recompence of my tithes and oblacons forgoten or witholden ten shellyngs [shillings]
And I bequeith and will to be bestowed yn the day of my buryeng for my Soule and all xpian [christian] soules xl [�10] by the discretion of myne executors
Item at my moneths day to evy [every] of the xij prts [priests?] beyng at dirige and syngyng masse viijd And othr wise to be done for me by the discretion of myne executors
Item yn the daye of myne annsary [anniversary] xt [�10] to be distributed yn divyrce [diverse] sums and acts of charite by the discretio of myne executors

And I will and require Dame Emelyn my wif to cause me to be other wise prayd for aft [after] her good discretion
Item I will that Dame Emelyn my wif shall have to her and her executors and Assignes my lease of the messuage wt [with] thapprtence [the appurtenances] in the towne of Wye called the Bell whiche I hold for term of certain yeres of the lease of the maisters and broders of the College of Wye

Also I bequeith to the same Dame Emelyn all manr [manner] my movable goods and catall [chattels] in my mansion place of Olantye [Olantigh] as well my plate beddying hangyngs and all other goodes and utensiles of houshold to be had to her to her owne use

And I will and bequeith to Cecile my daught(er) to her mariage thre hundred marks * whereof I will that myn executors shall paye att the day of her marriage one hundred marks and CC [200] marks residue I will shall be paide out of my manr [manor] of Boughton Aulph yn manr [manner] and forme specified yn my will declared of my lands
* 300 marks = approx. �200 at that time. In 2018, that was more than �200,000.

And as to all my livyng catall [cattle] cornes? and other movable goods I give and bequeith thaym to Willim my son

And I make and depute to be myne executors my said wif, Willim Kempe my son and Sir Lawrece [Lawrence] Broke, p�son [parson] of Badlesmere to whch p�sone I bequeith for his labors and assistence xxs

And as to the disposicion of all my wards lands and tenements wth thapptences [with the appurtenances] my will is this that Dame Emelyn my wif shall have to her and to her Assignes for [the] term of her life As well as all such manrs [manors] lands & tents. [tenements] wth thapptences which be to hir assignes for her wyntd [wanted?] according to the time first menconed yn evidence thereof made as all such manrs [manors] lands & tents. [tenements] wth thapptences [with the appurtenances] as were the inheritannce of the same Dame Emelyn

Also I will that Mary wife of Willm Harte farmer late wif of Xpofer [Christopher] Kempe my son shall have to her and her assignes for time of her life all those lands and tents. in Warehorne Newchurche Ruckynge and Snave accordyng to the Indentures thereof made whereof is the xxvij day of Juyen [June] yn the second yer of the Reign of our said Sovreign Lord [henry vij]

Also I will that Elens [Ellen] wif of William Kempe my son shall have and enioye her ioyantore [enjoy her jointure] according to the true entente of evidence thereof made

Also I will that the said Willm Kempe my son shall paye Marye daught(er) of the said Xpofer Kempe and Mary then his wif two hundred pounds sterling according to the said Indenture beryng [bearing] the Date above writen And that upon penaltie comprised yn the same Indentures And for payment of the same CCl [�200]

I will that the same Willm Kempe shall have all the said lands and tents yn Warehorne Newchurche Ruckynge and Snave to hym and to the eldest issue or heire male of his body lawfully begoten And so to remayne from eldest heire male for evr [ever] so that my very will and entent is that the same lands and tents. shall not be devyded amongst his heires males according to the cutsome of the tenure of Gavelkynde

Also I will that the same Willm Kempe yn like wise shall have to hym and to his eldest issue male of his body begoten, as well all the said manrs [manors] lands & tents. [tenements] wth thapptences [with the appurtenances] of the Inheritannce and of the Joyntor of the same Dame Emelyn my wif and of the said Elens [Ellen] wif of the said Willim aft(er) the deceasse of the same Dame Emelyn and Elens as all other my manrs [manors] lands & tents. [tenements] Avowsons Rents Reversons and fines with their apprtences stand so to remayne from eldest heire male to eldest heire male for evr

Furthermore I will that if Willm Kempe my son decesse wtout [without] issue male of his body lawfully begoten or that the issue male of the same Willm heraft(er) happend to be disavowded then I will that all the same manrs [manors] lands & tents. [tenements] Avowsons wth thapptences [with the appurtenances] shall remayne to Richard Kempe my son and to the ledest issue male of his body yn forme abovesaid with the Remaynder from eldest issue male to eldest issue male in forme abovesaid

And for deafult of heries male of the body of the said Richard Kempe I will that all the said manrs [manors] lands & tents. [tenements] and Avowsons shall remayne to John Kempe my son and to the eldest issue male of his body yn forme aforesaid wth the remayndr yn forme aforesaid

And for default of heries male of the body of the said John Kempe I will that all the said manrs [manors] lands & tents. [tenements] and Avowsons wth apptences [with the appurtenances] shall remayne to Andrewe Kempe my son and to the eldest issue male of his body yn fourme aboveseid wth the remayn(der) yn forme aforesaid

And for default of heries male of the body of the said Andrewe Kempe I will that all the said manrs [manors] lands & tents. [tenements] shall remayne to Edward Kempe my son and to the eldest issue male of his body lawfully begoten with the remayne(der) yn forme aforesaid

And for default of heries male of the body of the said Edward Kempe I will that all the said manrs [manors] lands & tents. [tenements] shall remayne to George Kempe my son and to the eldest issue male of his body yn forme aforesaid with the remayne(der) yn forme aforesaid

And for default of heries male of the body of the said George Kempe I will that all the said manrs [manors] lands & tents. [tenements] avowsons and other premisses shall remayne to to the right heires of the body of me the said Sr Thomas Kempe And for lacke of such issue to remayne to my right heires

Furthermore I will that the said Willm my son shall pay to evry of his broders before named yerly duryng the lif of eyther of thym five marks at two times of the yere And that my foffe [feoffee] shall make to evry a sufficient grannte of that annutie [annuity] to be paid yerly at the feste of Saynt Mighell tharchangell [Feast of St. Michael the Archangel] and of the annunication of our lady by even porcons with clause of distresse the first payment to be made at that feste which first shall happen aft(er) my decesse And I will that the same annutes be had and taken of any yn my demensed Lands & Tents. & Rents of my manor of Boughton Aluph and of and yn all my other lands and tents. yn the parishe of Boughton Aluph

Provided allway(s) that yf my said son Edward shalbe a preste then I will that he shallnot suceede yn the said enheratance [inheritance] of my lands but to have he said annuite of v marks only till he be presented to a benifice

Also I will and bequeith to my daught(er) Chicle [Cecilia] to her mariage thre hundred marks whereof I will that myn executors shall pay of my moveabe goods aprised [appraised] whereof yn the day of her mariage one C marks [100 marks] and CC [200] marks residue I will that my said son William shall pay yn fowre yeres next aft(er) her mariage / that is to say / evry yere fyfty marks yn the forth of the nativitie of Saynt John the Baptiste and of the Annunciation of our Lady by even porcons of the sume and pfits [profits] of my manr [manor] of Boughton Aluph

And if the said Willm make default of payment of any parte of those CC [200] marks, then I will that imediatlu aft(er) such defaute made my feoffes or their heyres shall make unto the said Cecilia and to make her execute a sufficient grannte of an yerly rent charged of fyfty marks to be taken of and yn the said my manr [manor] of Boughton Aluph to be paid at the dayes above writen as long as till the said sume of CC [200] marks residue (be paid) And also xxvjt xiijs iiijd [26 pounds 21 shillings & 8 pence] for the said defaulte may be fully satisfied and pad aft(er) the rate of fyfte marks by the yere And xxvjt xiijs iiijd of penalties yn the last yere by even porcons

Also I will that the said Dame Emelyn my wif shall have for her owne at her pleasure for her and her S�vannts [Servants] the chamber whiche I usualy lye yn And all that her challes or cattls [Chattels or cattles] and the forsh sede of my mansione place of Olantye (sic) wthin the mote And also half an acre of seasonable wode [wood] for her felled to be taken at her pleasure yn my wode called Boughton wode yerly to be felled yn seasonable tyme duryng her liff
