In the Name of God Amen the xth day of March in the year of our Lord God a thousand fyve hundrethe three score and fyve
I Peter Kempe of the paryshe of Lydden in the countye of Kent being sicke in my body, But of perfect Remembrance thanks by gyven to almighty God douthe make this my Last will and Testamente in maner and forme folowinge
Fyrst and pryncipally I bequethe my Sowle to almyghtye God my Savyor make and redeemor
And my body to be buryed un the churcheyarde of the sayd paryshe of Lydden

Item I do gyve unto the poore mens box of the sayd paryshe a vjd
Item my will is that Agnes Kempe my wyef shall have my house and garden and the proffits thereof for the space of xij yeares next after my decease and she shall nether make strope nor wast* And she shall kepe the same wynde tythe and water tythe
* �strope nor wast� means �strip nor waste� � i.e. the messuage and tenement should not be stripped of its means of making a profit, nor any of it wasted.

Item my will is that Elyas Kempe my sonne shall have my sayed house and gardens after the ends of the sayd xij yeres duryenge his lyef naturall
And after his decease to remayne to Thomas Kempe my sonne durynge his lyef

And also I wyll the childe that my wyef nowe goethe wythall yf yt please God yt lyve, [to] have my sayed howse and gardyn after the decease of my saied sonne Thomas Kempe
And my wyll is evry [every] one of them to be others heyres

Item my wyll is if yt fortune all them to dye wth owte ysshence [issue] of their bodyes lawfully begotten Then my said howes and garden holye to remayne to the right heyres of Peter Kempe

Item my wyll is that all my moveable goods, my detts and legacies paid by myne Executors, to be equally devyded betwene my wyef and children And all my said moveables to be putt and prysed [appraised] in an Inventorry bymy honest naybours, And she my said Wyef to have the same as yt shallbe praysed, shee my sayd wyef puttynge in suffycyente sucirtye [sufficient security] to my brother in lawe Sr Homfry Jordyn for the assurance of my sayed childrens parte

And my wyll is that my sayd children shall have evry one of their parts as well that that my said wyef nowe goes wth as the others, when and as they shall come to the age of one and twenty yeares and one to be anothers heyres

Also I do ordayne and make my Executors the said Sr Homfry Jordyn my brother in Lawe, and Agnes Kempe my wyef
And they to see me honestly brought forth and my detts and legacyes payed and also that this my last will performed

Notes:
Peter Kempe was buried at St. Mary the Virgin, Lydden on 18th March 1566.
His marriage is not found (Lydden parish registers commence in 1540).
His known children, all christened at Lydden:
13-Mar 1548 Samuell; 05-Feb 1550 Elias; 19-Apr 1552 Margaret; 17-Jan 1564 Thomas (Bu. same year); 07-May 1566 Thomas.
