In the name of god amen
I William Kempe of New Romney in the county of Kent Jurate the twoe and twentieth daye of November in the three and Forteth yeare of the Reigne of our Sovereigne Ladye Elizabeth by the grace of god Wueene of England France and Irelande defender of the faithe etc. beinge sick in bodye but of good & p�fecte Remembrance I thanke all mightie god doe ordaine and mke my Testament and Last will in manner and forme followinge
Firste I bequeath my Soule into the hands of my good god my maker and onelye Redemer and my bodye to be buryed accordinge to the Discretione of my Executrix

Item I will and give to Amye Kempe my daughter one hundreth pounds of lawfull money of England and halfe my moveables one Sivler cupp and three silver spones to be paide unto her at her age of Eighteene yeares or daye of marriadge wch [which] of them shall firste happen

And whereas James Mackett (or Mockett) of Lye (Rye?) my brother in lawe hath fower children vizt Thomas John William and Margerye Mockett and Also my Mother Margery Buntinge* late of New Romney widdowe deceased by her Testament and last will gave unto the said Thomas and John Mockett the sonnes of the said James Mockett Five pounds a peece wch five pounds a peece I have long since paid unto the said James Mockett for and to the use of the said Thomas and John

And whereas the said James Mockett doth also owe me twentie pounds I give and will thaforesaide twentie pounds unto the said Tomas John William and Margery Mockett the children of the said James Mockett to every of them five pounds a peece one [on] this condicone that my Executrix her Executors and Administrators shalbe discharged and saved herwithe of the said ten pounds five pounds a peece given as aforesaid by the said Margery Buntinge unto the said Thomas and John Mockett sonnes of the said James Mockett and one [on] condicione that the said James Mockett be hone [become?] in any onligacione with Sufficient Securitie in the somme of thirtie pounds to save my Executrix her Executors and Administrators harmeles for the said tenne pounds vizt five pounde a peece given as aforesaide to the said Thomas and John Mockett by the said Margery Buntinge wthin one quarter of a yeare next after my decease otherwise for wante of such bonde to be in one forme of Lawe made and delivered to my executrix as aforesaid the said gifte of twentie pounds in manner as aforesaid to be utterlye voide to all intente and purposes

And I ordaine and make Phillice my wife sole Executrix of this my Testament and last will to whome I will and give (my debts funerall and legacies paide and discharged) all my goods money plate and Chattells whatsoever

Provided all wayes and my mynde and will is that the man wch shall marrye with the said Phillice after my decease shall before marrydge betwene them Solemnized enter into sufficient bonde to John Mynge of New Romney and to my Brother John Crowche of Lydd Jurate or to either of them that shalbe liveinge to p�frome iiij said legacies and fulfill this my Testament and last will of demise for default (damage to microfilm here) will and made vs / that the said Phillice shall lose the benefit (damage to document here) England shall not be my Executrix but then I ordaine and make Anne Kempe my daughter my Executor of this my Testament and last will and I ordaine the said John Menige? and my Brother John Crowche Overseers of this my saide Testament and last will

And as concerning all my lands Tenemtnts [Tenements] and hereditaments in New Romney, Hope All Saints and St. Maries in Romney Mershe in the said countie of kent I will and give them and every of them to Anne Kempe my said daughter To have and to hold the same and every parte and p�cell thereof to my said daughter Anne Kempe and to her heires and assignes for ever

And my will and mynde is that Phillice nowe my wife shall have the educacione and bringe up of my said daughter Anne Kempe untill her age of eighteene yeres or daye of marriadge wch of them shall firste happen and in the meane season shall take receave and have the profitte of my saide Lands Tenements and hereditaments Condicionallie that she shall bringe up my said Childe in such god sorte as shealbe likeinge to my said Oversers and shall maynteyne susteyne and keepe my saide lands Tenements and hereditaments tennant like repayred and amended and against wynde and weather and onilesee? and shall paye the rente shotte? and charges riseinge and payable for the premisses during thorfsaid [the aforesaid] terme And one that convenience my mynde and will is that the said Phillice shall let and sett my saide lands Tents. and hereditaments to her best advantage untill my said Daughter Amy Kempe shall attain to ehr said age of eighteene yeires / or be marriaed as aforesaid

And for the overplus that shall Remayne of the saide lands & money I leave it to the good discrecion of the said Phillice hopeinge as my full truste is in her that she will be good and kinde to my said childe and endeavour her preferment in the best mannor she may

Item I will to the poore people of New Romney ten shillings to be distributed amongest them ymediatelye aftr my decease accordinge to the discrecone of my said wyfe

And I will to the said John Myinge and John Crowche five shillings eight pence apeece

Margery Kempe, widow married Richard Bunting 12 Jun 1564 at Lydd. She is probably the widow of John Kempe of Lydd, whose Will was dated and proved in 1563.
