In the name of God Amen the First day of December in the yeare of the raigne of our Sovraigne Lord Charles the Second by the grace of God of England Scotland France and Ireland King Defender of the Faith etc. the seaventeenth Anno Dini 1665
I Thomas Kempe of Great Chart in the County of Kent Husbandman being in p�fect [perfect] health and memory praised be God therefore, but knowinge that death is most certaine but the houre thereof most incertaine revoaking all former Wills by me made doe make and ordayes [ordain] this my Last Will and Testamt [Testament] in manner and forme Following
First I comitt my Soule into the hands of the Allmighty who gave it me trusting assuredly by [and] through the meritts of my dearly beloved Saviour and Redeemer to be saved and as for my body I comitt to the Earth to bee buryed in a decent & christian like manner by my Executs [Executors] hereafter named And touching all my estate both reall & p�sonall wch [which] [it] hath pleased God to bestowe uppon me in this Transitory world I doe give and bequeath as Followeth, vizt.

first I give and bequeath by this my said Last Will and Testament unto Joane Kempe and Elizabeth Kempe my two loveing daughters all my moveable goods & chattells and all other goods of what nature quality or Condicon whatsoever Utensills & implyments of household and household stuffe whatsoever to be equally devided betweene them and delivered by my Executor hereafter named within three monethes next after my decease

And as for my lands and Tenemts [Tenements] Vizt. One Messuage called �Gulls� & other buildings to the same belong and twelve acres of land in Mountfitchett? in the county of Essex, and all other lands and tenements which shall or appertaine nowe unto mee this my Will and I doe give and bequeath them and evy [every] part and parcell thereof unto my loveing sonne Thomas Kempe his heires and assignes for ever hee paying of the legacies hereafter menconed vizt.

fortie pounds of lawfull money of England wch I give and bequeath unto my loveing sonne John Kempe to be paid unto him wthin [within] one yeare next after my decease

the like sume of fortie pounds of lawfull money of England wch I likewise give and bequeath unto my loveing sonne Richard Kempe to be paid unto him allso wthin one yeare next after my decease

the like sume of fortie pounds of lawfull money of England wch I likewise give and bequeath unto my said daughter Joane Kempe over and above the moyety [moiety] of the goods before menconed to be paid unto her allso wthin one yeare next after my decease

the sume of fortie and five pounds of like lawfull money of England wch I likewise give and bequeath unto my said daughter Elizabeth Kempe also over & above ye moyetie [moiety] of the goods before menconed to be paid unto her allso wthin one yeare next after my decease

and the sume of ten pounds of like lawfull money of England wch I likewise give and bequeath unto my two loveing grandchildren John and Thomas sonnes of my said sonne John Kempe to be equally devided and paid unto them when they or either of them shall attaine to ye age of one and twenty yeares

Allso I will and bequeath in case any of my sonnes shall fortune to dy vizt John or Richard before that ye sume of forty pounds shall be paid him as aforesaid That then his legacie shall be equally devided betweene my two surviving sonnes and the moyetie of the said legacy wch the deceased sonne should have had shall be paid [to] my surviving sonne John or Richard within one yeare next after my decease as above said But uppon this condicon notwthstanding that my sonne wch shall fortune to dy leave neither wife nor children wch issue doe then yt legacie or sume of money wch hee should have received shall be paid unto his wife child or children within the time last menconed

Allso I will and bequeath in case one of my said daughters shall fortune to dy before shee hath received & enioyed her severall legacies and leave neither husband child or children that her severall legacies and all the right and title in the p�misses [premises] aforesaid that shall belong unto her to receive and enioy in as full & ample manner as my other daughter should have received and enioyed the same but if shee leave a husband child or children then my will is hee or they shall have receive & enioy her severall legacies aforesaid and her sisters to have nothing to do with them

Allso I will and bequeath in case my sonne John shall refuse to deliver upon request made wthin three months next after my decease all such goods and chattells which hee receive, hath of mine in his possession unto his Sisters Joane and Elizabeth or either of them that shall Survive the other than ten pounds parcell of the said fortie pounds wch hee ought to receive shall be paid unto my daughters or daughter surviving wthin one yeare next after my decease and my said sonne John to have but thirty pounds paid him wthin the time last menconed

But if my said sonne Thomas shall deny or neglect to pay or otherwise to satisfy the severall sume and sumes of money in manr [manner] as aforesaid by me given and bequeathed and doe not therein p�forme this my last will and testament Then I give and bequeath by this my said Will my messuage Lands and p�misses aforesaid with the appurtenances and all other lands & tenements wch doe or shall belong or appertaine unto mee unto my said sonnes and daughters John Thomas Richard Joane and Elizabeth To have and to hold equally to them theire heires and assignes for ever

And I doe make & ordaine by this my last will and testament my said sonne Thomas to be my sole Executor thereof
And if hee shall refuse to be ye executor of this my last will and testament or doe not prove or endeavour to prove the same according to due forme of lawe in such cases wthin six monthes next after my decease then I doe make & ordaine my daughters Joane and Elizabeth to be my Executrixes of this my said last will and to be standen and my sonne Thomas to be discharged

In Witnes whereof that this is my last will and testament to the first and second sheetes I have sett my hand and to this third being the last sheete, my hand & seal the day and yeare first above written

And in touching being inserted under the 13th line in the first sheete and theis words, vizt (moyetie of the) being likewise inserted under the 23th (!) lineinge said sheete and Thomas & severall other words being struck out in the second sheete)
It was subscribed and sealed by the said Thomas Kempe and published and declared to be the last will & testament of him the sd [said] Thomas Kempe in the p�sence of
Elizabeth Baker John Baker Erin? Rucke Richard Puckle

Notes: Thomas�s burial is not found, for some reason?
Thomas Kempe married Mary Fuller on 9th November 1632 at St. Mary the Virgin, Westwell.
Their known children (all christened at St. Mary, Great Chart):
20-Oct 1633 Elizabeth (Bu: 24 Oct 1633); 14-Jul 1644 Joane; 16-Nov1634 John; 15-Oct 1637 Thomas; 22-Mar 1640 Richard (Bu: 16 Jan 1666 �a young man�); 30-Sep 1648 Elizabeth.

Thomas Kempe was christened 29th March 1607, s. of John Kempe, at Great Chart.
Known siblings (all christened Great Chart): 26-Dec 1609 Rebecka; 10-Jul 1612 John (Bu: 13 July 1612); 14-Apr 1616 John (Bu: 22 Apr 1616).
Only Thomas Kempe and Rebecca Kempe survived.
Rebecca married by Licence at St. Margaret, Canterbury on 16th Feb. 1628, thus: Edward Elliott of Great Chart, Yeoman, Widower, about 32 and Rebecca Kempe, same parish, Virgin, about 21, d. of John Kempe, same parish. who consents, as is testified by her Brother Thomas Kemp, same parish.

John Kempe (the son) married Susan(nah)? probably during the Commonwealth, as no marriage is found. Some children have been found, all christened at Great Chart:
05-Feb 1660 John; 8-Dec 1661 Mary; 15 May 1664 Thomas; 05-Feb 1666 Edward; 29-Mar 1667 Edward; 12-Dec 1669 Walter; 05-Sep 1672 Richard; 15-Oct 1676 Jesse.
