This is the last Will and Testament of me Catherine Elizabeth Kemp of the parish of Wingham in the County of Kent Spinster bearing date 28th Day of May in the Year of our Lord One thousand eight hundred and twenty eight written signed and sealed with my own Hand being in the twenty second Year of my Age and although in bad Health yet possessed of a sound Mind and an unimpaired Understanding �God be praised for the same� and all other means spiritual & temporal visited to me

I first direct all my just Debts if any such there are at my decease with the Expenses attending my Funeral, the erection of a Grave stone and also the Expenses attendant in the Executorship of this my last Will and Testament to be paid out of my real propertys invested partly in the Canterbury Provident Bank the residue of which Property if there be any at my decease

I Give and Bequeath unto my Aunt Catherine Wife of John Morris? of the parish of Nonington (in the) County of Kent as an acknowledgement not a reward of their services to me during a long and painfull illness

To my Aunt �Rebecca Chaffey� I Give and Bequeath such a portion as she the said �Rebecca Chaffey� may chose to select accept and take of my deceased Grand Mothers Linen and Cloathes

To my Sister in Law �Mary Anne Kemp� my Cousin �Rebecca� and �Margaret Harris� the former of the parish of Wingham, the latter of the parish of Hardres I Give and Bequeath my own Cloathes to be equally devided between them leaving to my Aunt �Catherine Morris� the liberty of selecting any article she may choose to accept

To my Uncle John Morris I give the Memoir of Lord Nelson with the valuable portrait of the late lamented King George III
To my Aunt Catherine Morris the memoir of �King Charles Augusta�

the residue in all fifty two volumes with Seventy unbound Books of little value I request may be submitted to the inspection of my Sister in Law Mary Anne Kemp my aforesaid Friends �Mary Anne Parker� �Harriet Powell� �Sarah Jane Gammon� �Ann Elizabeth Morris� �Anne� and �Eleanor Branford� They are then from among them to select each and every of them two Volumes and they will keep in remembrance of me

And I also Give and Bequeath severall trinkets which will be found in a small drawer in my Chamber to the respective persons to whom they have been addressed by my own Hand Namely to my Aunt �Catherine Morris� and �Rebecca Chaffey� To �Mary Anne Parker� �Harriet Powell� �Sarah Jane Gammon� and to �Anne Elizabeth Morris�

And I also Give to the before mentioned Rebecca Chaffey a small minature (sic) Portrait supposed to be that of my Grandfather
To my Cousin Frances Chaffey I Give the three Pictures left at Henry Southons (?) which were the property of my deceased Grandmother

And I also Give to my Brother in Law Henry Kemp one half Dozen silver spoons with Sugar Tongs directing that my Aunt Catharine Morris will take care of them till they may be usefull to him

The Residue of my Books Trinkets not appropriated if any such remain I place at the disposal of my Uncle and Aunt John and Catherine Morris to be retained by them or disposed as they may think proper first having in complyance with the before mentioned request submitted the Books to the inspection and choice of Mary Anne Kemp Mary Anne Parker Harriet Powell Sarah Jane Gammon Ann Elizabeth Morris Anne and Eleanor Branford

And further I do constitute and appoint the before mentioned �John Morris� sole Executor of this my last Will and Testament Dated the 28th Day of May in the Year of our Lord One Thousand eight Hundred and Twenty eight

In attestation and Witness of which I have requested the undersigned to subscribe their Signature as also Witness my Hand and Seal

The before Registered Will of Catherine Elizabeth Kemp, Spinster, deceased was proved the Ninth Day of March 1831 before the Reverend John Metcalfe, Clerk, Surrogate to the Worshipful Sir Herbert Jenner, Knight Doctor of Laws Commissary General of the City & Diocese of Canterbury lawfully constituted by the oath of John Morris (?) the sole Executor named in the said Will he being first sworn well and truly to perform the same

Notes:
Catherine Elizabeth Kemp was just 22 years of age when she died. She was christened 28th Oct 1806, d. of John and Ann Kemp, at St. Mary the Virgin, Wingham and was buried there on 15th Feb 1831.

John Kemp had married Ann Lloyd on 19th November 1805 at Wingham. She was of Bridge.
Catherine Elizabeth appears to be an only child.
