First I Give and Bequeath unto Henry Kemp the son of my late Husband George Kemp ten pounds sterling to be paid to him within twelve calendar months after my decease
And I Give and Bequeath all my Plate Linnen Glass and China unto my Daughter Elizabeth Kemp for her own absolute use and benefit
And I Give and Devise all my Messuages Tenements Land Hereditaments parts and shares of Hereditaments and all other my Real Estate whatsoever and wheresoever and which I have any right or power whatsoever to dispose of with the Appurtenances Unto my friend Thomas Karn of Ramsgate aforesaid, Tailor, and my said Daughter Elizabeth Kemp their Heirs and Assigns To Hold the same unto the said Thomas Karn and Elizabeth Kemp and the Survivor of them or the Heirs of such Survivor shall and do as soon as conveniently may be after my decease by Public Sale or Private Contract sell and dispose of my said real Estate for the best price or prices that can be reasonably obtained for the same And upon payment of the purchase money for the same shall and do convey the same to the purchaser or purchasers thereof his her or their Heirs and Assigns
And for facilitating the sale of my said real Estate I do hereby declare that the Receipt or Receipts of my said Trustees or the Heirs or Assigns or the Survivor of them shall be a sufficient discharge to any purchaser of all or any part of my said real Estate for his her or their respective Purchase Money or so much thereof as in such Receipt or Receipts shall be acknowledged of expressly to be received and that such Purchaser or Purchasers shall not be answerable or accountable for any loss misapplication or nonapplication of such purchase money or any part thereof
And upon further trust that after the payment or any part thereof and Expences as my said Trustees or the Survivor of them his or her Heirs Executors or Administrators shall be first made in the Execution of the trusts hereby created Then that they my said Trustees and the Survivor of them and the Executors or Administrators of such Survivor shall and do pay and apply the net monies to arise from such Sale and disposition of my said real Estate in manner following / That is to say /
One full equal third part or share of such net monies to the said Henry Kemp for his own use and benefit,
one other full and equal third part thereof to my Grandson William Crossly, son of
my deceased Daughter Sarah the Wife of William Crossley for his own use and benefit
And the remaining full and equal third part thereof to my said Daughter the said Elizabeth Kemp for her own use and benefit
And as to all my Household Goods Furniture Stock in Trade Money Securities for Money Chattells Effects and other my personal Estate whatsoever and wheresoever which I have any right or power whatsoever at Law or in Equity to dispose of after (my decease) and subject to the payment of my just debts funeral and testamentary Charges I Give and Bequeath the same and every part thereof unto and equally between my said Grandson the said William Crossley and my said Daughter Elizabeth Kemp for their own respective use and benefit
Provided nevertheless And I do hereby direct that in case my said Daughter Elizabeth Kemp shall after my decease be desirous of purchasing my Freehold Messuage or Dwelling House wherein I now reside situate in King Street in Ramsgate aforesaid with the Shop Outbuildings Yard Ground and Appurtenances thereunto belonging and the Fixtures therein and shall signify such her desire in Writing under her Hand to her Co. Trustee the said Thomas Karn within twelve calendar Months from the day of my decease Then and in such case my said Daughter Elizabeth Kemp shall have the option of purchasing the same Dwelling House and Premises and the Fixtures therein at a fair price by Valuation to be fixed by two competent persons to be appointed for that purpose, one of them by the said Thomas Karn his Heirs and Assigns and the other by my said Daughter, with the liberty for such two persons to call in an Expert in case of their disagreement, the decision of which shall be final and which valuation shall be made within eighteen months next after my decease and on payment of the Account of such Valuation
Then my Will is that my said other Trustee the said Thomas Karn or his Heirs shall and do convey and upon the same Premisses to the use of my said Daughter Elizabeth Kemp her Heirs and Assigns for ever or otherwise as she or they shall direct and that the Receipt or Receipts of the said Thomas Karn or his Heirs for the Purchase Money shall be a sufficient discharge to my said Daughter for the same And that she my said Daughter her Heirs Executors Administrators or Assigns shall not afterwards be answerable or accountable for any loss misapplication or nonapplication of such Purchase Money or any part thereof
And I nominate and appoint my said Trustees the said Thomas Karn and Elizabeth Kemp Executors of this my last Will and testament Provided and my said Will is that my said Trustees and Executors or either of them or the Heirs executors or Administrators of either of them shall not be chargeable with more Monies than they shall respectively receive nor with or for any loss which has happened to the same trust monies and premises so as such loss shall happen without them or for the Acts Deeds Receipts Disbursements or Defaults of the other of them but each for his own Acts Deeds Receipts Disbursements or Defaults
And also that it may and shall be lawful for them my said Trustees and Executors and their respective Heirs Executors and Administrators in the first place by and out of the monies which shall come to their Hands by virtue of this my Will, to deduct retain and reimburse themselves respectively and to allow their Co-Trustee all such Costs Charges Damages and Expences as they shall respectively bear sustain and be put unto for or by reason or means of the trusts hereby in them reposed or the management or execution thereof or any Act Transaction Matter or thing whatsoever in anywise relating thereunto
And lastly I do hereby revoke all former Wills by me at any time heretofore made and do declare this only to be my last Will and Testament

This is a Codicil to the last Will and Testament of me Sarah Kemp of Ramsgate in the Isle of Thanet in the County of Kent Widow which Will bears date the fourteenth Day of December in the Year of our Lord One thousand eight hundred and thirty eight
Whereas I have by my said Will given and devised all my real Estate with the Appurtenances
unto my friend Thomas Karn and my Daughter Elizabeth Kemp their Heirs and Assigns To
hold the same unto the said Thomas Karn and Elizabeth Kemp their Heirs and Assigns Upon
certain Trusts in my said Will mentioned
And it is in my said Will provided and directed that in case my said Daughter Elizabeth Kemp
should after my decease be desirous of purchasing a certain Freehold Messuage or Dwelling
House in my said Will more particularly mentioned and the fixtures therein she should have
the option of purchasing the same as therein mentioned
And I have by my said Will appointed the said Thomas Karn and Elizabeth Kemp Co-
executors of my said Will And whereas the said Thomas Karn hath since signified to me his
desire and intention to be discharged from his aid Office of Trustee and Executor
Now I do hereby nominate and appoint my Sons in Law William Crossley in my said Will named and Richard Woodward of Ramsgate aforesaid Baker now the Husband of my said Daughter Elizabeth Kemp Executors and Trustees of my said Will and to them and to their Heirs and Assigns
I hereby Give and Devise my said residuary real Estate with the appurtenances To hold to them the said William Crossley and Richard Woodward their Heirs and Assigns Upon the several Trusts and under and subject to the powers provisoes and declarations and with the power to give receipts and other powers and authorities to the Trustees by my said Will given or therein expressed of and concerning any real estate thereby given to the said Thomas Karn and Elizabeth Kemp
And I do by this Codicil further declare my Will to be that with respect to the option by my said Will given to my said Daughter Elizabeth Kemp now the Wife of the said Richard Woodward pf purchasing the said Freehold Messuage or Dwelling House in my said Will more particularly described and the fixtures therein that such power and option and all the benefit and advantage thereof shall by this Codicil be given to and shall and may be exercised by the said Richard Woodward as fully and effectually to all intents and purposes as if he the said Richard Woodward�s name had been originally mentioned in my said Will instead of the name of his said Wife the said Elizabeth Woodward
And I declare this to be a Codicil to my said Will which I do in all other respects ratify and confirm

The before registered Will (with a Codicil) of Sarah Kemp Widow deceased was proved the eighth day of July 1842 before the Reverend John Pechey Frances, Clerk, Surrogate of the Worshipful Sherrard Beaumont Burnaby Doctor of Laws, Official General to te Reverend the Archdeacon of Canterbury lawfully constituted by the Oaths of William Crossley and Richard Woodward the Executors named in the said Codicil They being first sworn duly to perform the same
Notes:
George Kemp, the Husband of Sarah, married firstly Ann Tall at St. John the Baptist, Margate on 13th July 1797.
They had a son Henry Kemp christened 12th October 1806 at the Ebenezer Independent Chapel, Ramsgate.
George Kemp, Widower, married Sarah Stedman, Widow of St. Dunstan�s in the West,
Middlesex on 8th October 1809 in St. Lawrence in Thanet. Both were �of this parish�.
George and Sarah�s children:
Born 30th Jun, christened 15th November 1812 � Sarah Kemp, at St. Lawrence in Thanet.
Born 15th November 1819, christened 2nd April 1820 - Elizabeth Kemp, at the Zion Independent Chapel, Hardres Street, Ramsgate.
George Kemp was christened 1st November 1759, s. of Henry and Ann Kemp at St. Lawrence.
George died and was buried on 12th October 1832, aged 73, at the Ebenezer Independent Chapel, Ramsgate.
He is given as having �died suddenly�.
Sarah Kemp had firstly married George Steadman whilst she was Sarah Roberts on 25th July 1796 at St. James, Picadilly, Middlesex.
George and Sarah�s daughter Elizabeth Kemp married Richard Woodward in the June quarter
of 1839 in the Thanet registration district. No church marriage has been found.
