[I] Give and bequeath unto my two Grandchildren James Thomas Kemp and William Martin Kemp Sons of my Son John James Kemp deceased all and every my property be it of whatsoever nature it may [that] I may be possessed of or in reversion at the time of my decease to them and their heirs for ever My foresaid grandchildren to be joint heirs to my property aforesaid share and share alike equally
and in furtherance of this my said Will and Testament I hereby nominate my Nephew William Steddy of Willesborough my Nephew Alfred Kemp of Canterbury and my Cousin Robert Cozens of Chilham all in the County of Kent aforesaid my joint executors of this my last Will and Testament

Smith of Chartham in the same County Spinster and made Oath as follows
And first the said Robert Cozens for himself made Oath that he is the Drawer and Writer of the last Will and Testament (hereunto annexed) of Thomas Kemp late of Mystole in the Parish of Chartham in the County of Kent Gardener deceased contained in one sheet of paper beginning thus �This writing containeth the last Will and Testament of me Thomas Kemp� and ending �I have set my hand and seal this twenty fifth day of February in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and forty seven� and thus subscribed �Thomas Kemp� and having now referred to the following alterations in the said Will the names �Thomas James Kemp� struck out with a pen in the fifth line from the top of the said Will and the name �James Thomas Kemp� interlined over the same this Deponent saith that the said recited alterations were so made by him in the execution of the said Will by the said deceased
And the said Sarah Smith for herself made Oath that she is one of the subscribed Witnesses
to the said Will and that on the Twenty fifth day of February aforesaid the said Testator duly
executed hi said Will by signing his Name at the foot or end thereof in the presence of this
Deponent and of William Epps the other subscribed Witness thereto (both of whom were
present at the same time) and this Deponent and the said William Epps thereupon attested
and subscribed the said Will in the presence of the said Testator

The before Registered Will of Thomas Kemp deceased was proved the Twenty seventh day of March 1847 Before the Reverend John Pechey Francis Clerk Surrogate to the Worshipful Sherrard Beaumont Burnaby Doctor of Laws Official General to the Reverend the Archdeacon of Canterbury lawfully constituted by the Oaths of William Wrake Steddy (in the Will called �William Steddy�) and Alfred Kemp Nephews of the deceased two of the Executors named in the said Will they being first sworn duly to perform the same (Power reserved of making the like Grant to Robert Cozens the other Executor when he shall apply for the same).
Notes:
John James Kemp, Thomas and Sarah�s son, was christened on 17th February 1818 at St.
Mary, Chartham. He married an Ann Hills � BUT marriage not found in Kent. John James
Kemp was buried 15th February 1847 at St. Mary, Chilham. Ann Kemp re-married William
Cozens (born 1813, Chartham) on 18th October 1856 at St. Mary, Chartham. She is given as
daughter of Thomas Hills in the register. She was born in Berkshire approx. 1817.
James Thomas Kemp was christened 28th July 1844 s. of John James and Ann Kemp at St. Mary�s, Chartham. He dies aged 5 and is buried 17th April 1849 at St. Mary, Chilham. William Martin Kemp was christened at St. Mary Chartham on 14th June 1846. No more on him is found. Did he take the surname Cozens?
