In the Name of God Amen
I John Longley the Elder of Chatham in the County of Kent Mercer being in health of body and of sound mind and Memory do make and ordain this my last Will & Testament in manner and form following (that is to say)
First I commend my Soul into the hands of Almighty God and to my blessed Saviour and Redeemer Jesus Christ and my Body I commit to the Earth to be decently interred at the discretion of my Executors hereafter named and as to my Worldly Estate I dispose thereof as followeth

Item I give and bequeath unto my Son William Longley the Sum of Two hundred pounds of lawfull money of Great Britain to be paid by my Executors within Six Months after my decease
Item I give and bequeath unto my daughter Elizabeth Tempest the Sum of Two hundred pounds of like money to be paid within Six Months after my decease
Item I give and bequeath unto my daughter Frances Drinkwater the Sum of Two hundred pounds of like money to be paid within Six Months after my decease

Item all the rest and residue of my ready money, Securitys for money, Debts, Credits, Stock, Rings, Plate, Linnen, Woollen, Beds, Beding, Goods, Chattells and Personal Estate whatsoever and wheresoever whereof I shall dye possessed interested in or intituled unto I give and bequeath the same unto my two Sons John Longley and Joseph Longley and to their Executors Administrators and Assigns equally to be divided between them share and share alike

And I direct that my said two Sons John and Joseph Longley shall out of the said residue of my Personal Estate pay all my just debts, Funeral Expences and charge of Proving this my Will

Item I give and devise unto my two Sons John Longley and Joseph Longley all those my two Messuages or Tenements Yards Backsides Gardens Wharfe and appurts. [appurtenances] thereunto belonging Scituate in Chatham aforesaid and now in the Occupations of me the said John Longley the Elder and Philip Needle To have and to hold unto my said Sons John Longley and Joseph Longley their Heirs and Assigns for ever as Tenants in Common and not as joint Tennants

Item I give and devise unto my Son John Longley all that my Messuage Tenement Farm House called Capill with the Barn Stable Garden Orchard and severall Peices or parcells of Land containing Forty two Acres more or less with their appurtenances lying and being in the Parish of Chatham aforesaid now in the Occupation of William Filmore and which I lately purchased of John Speary To have and to hold unto my said Son John Longley his Heirs and Assigns for ever

Item I give and devise unto my Son William Longley all that my Messuage Tenement or Farm house called Standen with the Barn Outhouses Buildings Yard Garden Orchard and appurtenances thereto belonging and all those severall peices of Pasture and Woodland with their appurts. containing Eighteen Acres more or less lying and being in the Parish of Benenden in the said County of Kent and belonging to the said Farm called Standen late in the Occupation of John Feavour but now of John Amett
And also all that my Messuage Farm and Land called Menoways lying and being in or near Luton Lane in the Parish of Chatham aforesaid and which I bought of John Smith and his Wife with all and singular the appurts. thereto belonging To have and to hold unto my said Son William Longley his Heirs and Assigns for ever

Item I give and devise unto my Son Joseph Longley all those my severall Peices or Parcells of Land called Ramsden Land with their appurtenances containing Thirty and five Acres more or less lying and being in the Parish of Benenden aforesaid and now or late in the tenure or Occupation of Robert Jewry And also all that my Toft Barn and severall peices or Parcells of Land threto belonging containing twelve Acres more or less with the with their appurts. lying and being in the Parish of Benenden aforesaid at or near a Placed called Walkhouse Bridge commonly called Burnthouse Land now in the Occupation of James Parsons To have and to hold unto my Son Joseph Longley his Heirs and Assigns for ever

Item I give and devise unto my daughter Elizabeth Tempest all that my Messuage or Tenement with the Gardens Yard and appurts. thereto belonging lying and being near the Sign of the Woolpack and the Tye within the Liberty of the City of Rochester and which I purchased of John Plumley and his Wife And also All that my Estate and undivided Moiety or half part of and in all those two Messuages or Tenements Yards Gardens and appurts. to them belonging lying and being near Heavyside Lane in Chatham aforesaid and now in the Occupation of John Nash or his assignes or Undertenants which I purchased of my Cousen Edward Moorcock To have and to hold unto my said daughter Elizabeth Tempest her Heirs and assignes for ever

Item I give and devise unto my daughter Frances Drinkwater All that my Messuage or Tenement with the garden Yard Backside Buildings and appurts. thereunto belonging lying and being in or near Cage Lane in the Parish of Strood in the said County of Kent now in the Occupation of William Waring a Surgeon To have and to hold unto my said daughter Frances Drinkwater her Heirs and assignes for ever

And of this my last Will and Testament I name and appoint my two Sons John Longley and Joseph Longley Joint and only Executors and do hereby revoke and make void all former and other Wills & Testaments by me at any time made spoken or Published before the Publishing of these presents And do declare this to be & contain my only last Will and Testament

In Witness whereof I the said John Longley the Elder have to this my Last Will and Testament contained in three sheets of Paper Sett my hand and Seal to every Sheet thereof the Sixth day of September in the twelfth Year of the Reign of our Sovereigne Lord George the Second King of Great Britain France and Ireland Defender of the Faith and in the Year of Our Lord One thousand seven hundred and Thirty Eight

This Will was Proved at London On the Twenty Sixth Day of April in the Year of Our Lord One thousand seven hundred and Forty before the Worshipfull Robert Chapman Doctor of Laws and Surrogate of the Right Worshipfull John Bettesworth Doctor of Laws Master Keeper or Commissary of the Prerogative Court of Canterbury lawfully constituted by the Oaths of John Longley and Joseph Longley the Sons of the deceased and Executors named in the said Will To whom Administration was granted of all and singular the Goods Chattells & Credits of the said deceased they having been first Sworn well and duly to administer the same
