Item I will and bequethe unto my three servants namely
Michell Daniell, Edward Coleman and Annis Bunne four shillings a yeere
Item I will and bequeathe unto Christofer Anderson of the parish of
Thannington in the said countie and unto Sara his daughter and my
goddaughter four shillings a yeere
Item I will and bequeathe unto Arthur Watts the son of my brother Edward Watts four shillings
Item I will and bequeathe unto John Adams the son of Isaac Adams late of Chartham aforesaid
deceased five shillings
Item I will and bequethe unto Abbigaill Shipwashe my god daughter of John Shipwashe two shillings and six pence
Item I will and bequeathe unto my cosin Mathew Mantle halfe a salme or a quarter of
wheete and I doe hereby freelie forgive him all such debt or debts as he
nowe oweth me for wheete
Item I will and bequeathe unto Ann Baker the
daughter of widdowe Adams of Chartham aforesaid four shillings
I will and bequeathe unto my late servants Thomas Eested, Isaac Wood, Thomas Howell and
John Adams two shillings and sixpence a yeere
All which before specified legacies I will shalbe paid by my Executrix hereafter named within three
months next after my decease
Item I will and bequeathe unto my daughter
Mildred Mantle one hundred and forty pounds to be paid unto her by my said
Executrix at the age of one and twentie yeares or daye of marriage of the
said Mildred which shall first happen
Item I will and bequeathe that my said Executrix shall within twelve months next after my decease for a
portion for my two daughters namelie Dorothie Mantle and Marie Mantle and in
their names jointlie and to the use as their homes for ever purchase lands
and hereditaments to be full value of two hundred pounds and for the true
purchasinge of the same lands and hereditaments my will is that my said
executrix shall within one month after my decease become bound to the
overseers of this my will nominated in the sum of fower hundred pounds
conditional for the inst: effectinge of the said purchase
Item my will and further meaninge is that my said executrix shall receive the rents and
tiths of the said lands and hereditaments soe to be purchased as aforesaid
until either of them my said two daughters shall or might have attained the
age of one & twenty years or happens to be married shall my said executrix
to be accounptable to my said to daughters or the survivor of them for the
then payment of the said rents and profitts for the minorse of their
premises
Item I will and bequeathe unto my son James Mantle at his age of
one & twenty years two hundred & fifty pounds to be paid to him by my
executrix
Item I will that if my nowe wife happen to have a femall child
borne of her bodie within nine months next after my after my decease Then I
will unto that child so borne one hundred pounds to be paid with the
profitts thereof by my Executrix out of that legacy of two hundred and fifty
pounds before willed to my said son James att the age of one and twenty
years or day of marriage of the same child whych shall first happen, and
that then my said Executrix shall stand charged to paye unto my said son of
the said legacy of two hundred and fifty pounds onelie one hundred and fifty
pounds & noe more
Item I will and bequeathe unto my welbeloved wife all
the rents & fees and profitts of my messuages lands tenents & hereditaments
whatsoever and wheresoever situate sett having and being in the said all
parishes of Chartham aforsaid and of Hernehill and Seasalter or anie of them
in the aforsaid county of Kent for the good educacon of all my said children
untill my said son James shall or might have attayned his full age of one
and twenty years
Item my further will and meaninge is that my said wife
shall in reasonable manner keepe the said meussages lands and premisses
repayred until my said James full age, For the repayringe whereof itt shalbe
lawfull for my wife apon the said lands and premisses (if it maye there be
had and comittinge noe wilfull waste) to fell have and take timber & Deenelt
Item my further will and expresse meaninge is that my said wife and her
executors shalbe accounptable to my said sone for four pounds yearelie and
everie year between the deathe of me the said James the father and my said
James attayninge his said full age of one and twenty years The which
totall of my said sone all ten pounds soe as aforesaid beinge accounptable
for she my said executrix shall inst: paye unto my said sone att his said
full age
Item my further will is that yf itt shall happen anie of my said
children to die before they or one of them shall have or ought to have their
legacie or legacies before in this my will to them or anie of them willed or
bequeathed That then the legacie of them or anie of them soe dyeinge
shalbe and remaine deductable and payable to the survivor or survivors of my
said children by equal portions,
All the residue of my goods and chattolls household lusse readie money and plate unbequested after my debts burial and funerall expenses paid and disharged I will and bequeathe unto my welbeloved wife Bennett whome I make and ordayne the whole sole and onelie Executix of this my last will & testament intreatinge her for goode Cause? to Deale wyslie? and reasonable herein And I do nominate and intreate my well beloved brothers William Mantle and Thomas Mantle to be overseers to this my said will, and for there paines herin to be taken I will unto each of them five pounds a yeere
This is the last will and testament of me the said
James Mantle made & declared the daye and year abovesaid And as to
touchinge and concerninge the Dysposal? of all my lands Tenents and
hereditements with appurtenaces whatsoever and wheresoever in the said
parishes of Chartham Hernehill and Seasalter
Firste I will all the said
lands tenents and hereditaments with appurtenaces unto my said sone James
Mantle ( yf my wife shall not have within nine months after my death a male
child borne of her bodie) to him and his heirs for ever at the said age of
one and twenty years But yf my said wife shall happen to have a male child
borne of her bodie within the same time of nine months Then I will all my
said laids tenents & hereditaments in Chartham asforsaid with appurtenaces
to my said sone James and his heirs forever at his full age of one and
twenty years and all the residue of my said lands tenents & hereditments
with appurtenaces in Hernhill & Seasalter aforsaid I will and bequest to
that male child to be borne aforsaid and to his heirs forever In witness
whereof I the said James Mantle the father to this my last will & testament
my hand and soule have sett dated the day and yeare first above Written
Published and declared all that is cointayned in this three sheets of paper
written? to be the last will and testament of the said James Mantle the
father the daye and the yeare abovesaid in the name of JAMES MANTLE
A coddicil published and made ye daye and yeare above said by ye said James
Mantle and added and made parte and parcell of his will as followeth
Item I will and bequeathe unto my said wife Bennett when as that my said sone
James shall or might have attayned his full age of one and twenty yeares for
terme of her life rents & ffees and profits of all my messuages houses and
lands in Hearnhill and Seasalter abovesaid heretofore purchased by William
Mantle my Deceased father of one Charles Ospringe and one thing before in
this my will contayned to the Contrarie thereof in ....wise not
withstanding. In witness whereof I the said James the father as well? to
the will aforesaid also this coddicil my hand and soul have sett the daye
and yeare abovesaid
