In the name of God Amen The Fower and Twentieth day of September in the yeare of our Lord God One Thousand Six Hundred Twenty Fower And in the yeare of the Raigne of our Soveraigne Lord James by the grace of God of England France and Ireland King Defender of the faith &c the Two and Twentieth and of Scotland the Eight and Fiftieth
I Joane Maxfeild of Fawkam in the County of Kent Widdowe being of good and perfect remembrance Almightie God be praysed doe make and ordaine this my last will and Testament in manner and forme following
First and before all things I committ and commend my soule into the hands of Almighty God my maker Creator and redeemer and my body to be buried in the Chancell of the parishe Church of Ashe nere unto the body of my late most loving husband Thomas Maxfeild Doctor in Divinity nothing doubting but being assuredly perswaded and constantly beleiving that God of his omnipotent power will rayse it up againe in the last day and ioyne it unto my soule and that I both soule and body shalbe received into the everlasting ioyes of heaven not for any merrits of myne owne but by the free mercy of God through Jesus Christ my only Lord and Saviour.
And as concerning all those worldly goods which God hath given me I doe will give and bequeath in manner and forme following

Inprimis I doe will give and bequeath to the poore of the parishe of Ashe Forty shillings to be paid to the Churche wardens of the said parishe within one moneth next after my decease to be destributed by them to the poore of the same parishe within Fowerteene dayes after the receipt thereof.
Item I doe will to be given at the Churche the day of my buriall to the poore Twenty shillings.
Item I doe give towards the repairing and new setting up seates in the Churche of Fawkam aforesaid Twenty shillings

Item I doe give and bequeath unto Anne Walter my brother Robert Walters daughter Twenty pounds to be paid unto her within one year next after my decease.
Item I give and bequeath unto Dorcas Stacye and unto Alles Rigby my brother Robert Walters daughters Twenty pounds apeice to be paid unto either of them within one yeare next after my decease.
Item I doe give and bequeath unto Dorothy Walter and Rebena Walter my brother Robert Walters daughters Twenty pounds apeice to be paid unto either of them when they shall come to their severall ages of Twenty and one yeares or the day of their severall marriages which shall first happen.

Item I doe give and bequeath unto Thomas Walter my brother Robert Walters sonne five pounds to be paid unto him within one yeare next after my decease and my two bookes of Crownacles.
Item I doe give and bequeath unto Isaacke Walter my brother Robert Walters sonne Tenne pounds to be paid unto him when he shall come to the age of Twenty and one yeares.

Item I doe give and bequeath unto Dorcas Baker and Jane Baker my brother Bakers daughters Thirty pounds apeice to be payd unto eyther of them within one yeare next after my decease.
Item I doe give and bequeath unto Anne Baker and Elizabeth Baker my brother Bakers daughters Twenty pounds apeice to be paid unto either of them within one yeare next after my decease.

I doe give and bequeath unto Sara Greenehead Thomas Hodsalls daughter Tenne pounds to be paid unto her within one yeare next after my decease.
Item I doe give and bequeath unto Dorothie Freake Thomas Hodsalls daughter Thirty pounds to be paid unto her within one yeare next after my decease.
Item I doe give and bequeath unto Anne Hodsall & Elizabeth Hodsall Thomas Hodsalls daughters Fifteene pounds a peice to be paid unto either of them at their severall ages of twenty and one yeares or the day of their severall marriages w�ch shall first happen.

Item I doe give and bequeath unto William Hodsall Thomas Hodsalls sonne Tenn pounds to be paid unto him at the age of Twenty and one yeares.
Item I doe give and bequeath unto John Thomas Stephen and Henry Hodsall Thomas Hodsalls sonnes five pounds apeice to be paid unto them at their severall aages of twenty and one yeares, and unto John Hodsall aforesaid my silver beaker.

Item I doe give and bequeath unto the elder daughter of William Nicholson Margaret Nicholsons sonne Five pounds to be paid unto her when she shall come to the age of twenty and one yeares or at the day of her marriage which shall first happen.
Item I doe give and bequeath unto Margaret Nicholson my sister in lawe the Tenne pounds she oweth unto me and I doe give her Twenty shillings to be paid unto her within one yeare next after my decease.
Item I doe give and bequeath unto Jane Nicholson her daughter Five pounds to be paid unto her within one yeare next after my decease.
Item I doe give unto Thomas Nicholson her sonne five pounds to be paid unto him within one yeare next after my decease.

Item I doe give unto all my Godchildren which shall have nothing bequeathed unto them by this my will and Testam�t Twelve pence apeice to be paid unto every of them when they shall demaund the same.
Item I doe give unto Laurence Walters children Fifty shillings which he doth owe unto me to be paid unto them by him, more I doe give unto Jone his daughter Twenty shillings to be paid unto her at her age of twenty and one yeares or the day of her marriage which shall first happen.

Item I doe give unto John Pinson Thomas Pinsons sonne Forty shillings to be paid unto him when he shall come to the age of twenty and one yeares and to Thomas Pinson Twenty shillings to be paid unto him when he shall come to the age of twenty and one yeares.
Item I doe give unto Mary Allen widdow my kinswoman Twenty shillings to be paid unto her within one yeare next after my decease and unto her two daughters twenty shillings apeice to be paid unto them at their severall ages of twenty and one yeares or the day of their severall marriages which shall first happen.

Item I doe give unto Anne Walter my Goddaughter William Walters daughter Forty shillings to be paid unto her within one yeare next after my decease.
Item I doe give unto Thomas Walter, John Walter, Margaret Walter and Jone Walter sonnes and daughters of John Walter late of Ashe deceased Twenty shillings apeice to be paid unto every of them within one yeare next after my decease.
Item I doe give unto my sister Dorothy Smith Tenne pounds to be paid unto her within one yeare next after my decease.

Item I doe give unto Elizabeth Polley daughter of John Mayowe late of Darent deceased twenty shillings to be paid unto her within one yeare next after my decease.
Item I doe give Mr. Bassingthoit Vicar of Darent three pounds to be paid unto him within one yeare next after my decease
and to Mr Healye Curate of Fawkam Forty shillings to be paid unto him within one yeare next after my decease,
and unto Mr Smith Parson of Longfeild Twenty shillings to be paid unto him within one yeare next after my decease.

Item I doe give unto so many of my brother John Walters servants as shalbe dwelling with him at the tyme of my decease five shillings apeice, and so many of my brother Mr Michaell Smiths servants as shalbe dwelling with him at the tyme of my decease Two shillings six pence apeice, these legacies to be paid unto them within one moneth next after my decease.

Item I doe give unto John Walter my brother and to my sister his wife Three pounds apeice to make him a cloake and his wife a gowne.
Item I doe give unto my brother in lawe Mr William Baker and to my sister his wife Fifty shillings apeice to make him a Cloake and his wife a gowne, and to my said sister Baker my best silver salt to use during her naturall life and after her decease I will the same salt unto Dorcas Baker her daughter.

Item I give unto my brother in lawe Mr Michaell Smyth and to his wife my sister Fifty shillings to make him a cloake and my sister a gowne.
Item Idoe give unto my sister in lawe my brother Robert Walters wife Fifty shillings to make a gowne and to her sonne John Walter Forty shillings to make him a cloake.
Item I doe give unto Jone Polley the daughter of Sarah Polley deceased my kinswoman Twenty shillings to be paid unto her at the age of twenty and one yeares.
Item I doe give unto Margarett Hodsall my god-daughter John Hodsalls daughter Twenty shillings to be paid unto her when she shall come to the age of Twenty and one yeares.

This is the last will and Testament of me Jone Maxfeild aforesaid concerning all my houses lands and tenements.

Inprimis I doe give and bequeath unto John Walter my brother Robert Walters sonne my house in Dartford wherein William Haselwood now dwelleth withall the lands thereunto belonging and now occupied with the same with th�appurtenances untill Maxfeild Walter his brother shall come unto the age of twenty and one yeares, the said John paying for seaven yeares next after my decease twenty shillings every of the said seaven yeares to the Churche wardens of Ashe next Fawkam to be distributed by them to the poore of the same parishe within Fowerteene dayes after the receipt thereof, and also paying unto so many of Richard Bobbes and Susanne his wifes children as shalbe alive at the tyme of my decease Twenty shillings apeice when they shall come to their severall ages of twenty and one yeares.

And when the said Maxfeild Walter shall come to the age of twenty and one yeares, then I doe give and bequeath the said house and lands with th�appurtenances to the said Maxfeild Walter and to his heires for ever.
And if the said Maxfeild Walter shall come to the age of twenty and one yeares before all the said twenty shillings before bequeathed are due to be paid then the said Maxfeild Walter to pay so many of the same as shalbe come due after his said age of twenty and one yeares.

Item I doe give and bequeath unto John Walter my brother my house in Dartford aforesaid wherein ___ Holyhocke now dwelleth with th�apptences untill Robert Walter the sonne of Robert Walter my brother shall come to the age of twenty and one yeares paying to the Churche wardens of Dartford aforesaid Forty shillings within one yeare next after my decease to be distributed by them to the poore of the same parishe within fowerteene (days) next after the receipt of the same.

And when the said Robert Walter shall come to the age of twenty and one yeares then I doe give and bequeath the said house with th�appurtenances to the said Robert Walter and to his heires for ever.

Item my will mynde and intent is, and I will that Maxfeild Walter aforesaid shall pay unto Robert Kettle and John Kettle my uncle Robert Kettles sonnes Five pounds apeice within two yeares next after he shall come to and enjoye the house and lands in Dartford aforesaid wherein William Haselwood nowe dwelleth, and if the said Robert Kettle or John Kettle shall dy or decease before his said five pounds shalbe due to be paid unto him then the survivor of them to have the whole Tenne pounds to be paid unto him according to this my will and testament,

and my will minde and intent is that the Tennants of all the Messuages and lands before by this my will & testament bequeathed shalbe discharged of their halfe yeares rent next after my decease.

Item I doe give and bequeath unto John Walter my brother my house and lands in Fawkam aforesaid wherein I lately dwelled with th�appurtenances during his naturall life paying tenne shillings yearely to the poore of the parishe of Fawkam aforesaid for twelve yeares next after my decease yf he shall so long live and if my said brother shall dye or decease before Maxfeild Walter aforesaid shall come (to) the age of twenty and one yeares, then I doe give and bequeath the said house and lands with th�appurtenances unto my sister Dorothy Smith untill the said Maxfeild Walter shall come to the age of twenty and one yeares, she paying to the poore of Fawkam twnne shillings a yeare for so many yeares as shee shall enjoy the same.

And after the decease of my said brother John Walter and the end of the terme of my said sister Dorothy Smith I doe give and bequeath the said house and lands in Fawkam aforesaid with th�appurtenances unto Maxefeild Walter aforesaid and to his heires forever, he paying tenne shillings every yeare to the poore of the parishe of Fawkam aforesaid for so many of the said twelve yeares as shalbe behinde and unpaid when he shall come to the age of twenty and one yeares.

All other my goods and chattells as well reall as personall moveable and unmoveable quicke and dead utensells of houshold and househould-stuffe jewells and plate whatsoever unbequeathed my debts and legacies being paid and my severall expences discharged I doe give and bequeath unto my loving brother John Walter Esq�r and John Walter my brother Robert Walter�s sonne, whome I doe make and ordaine the sole Executors of this my last Will and Testament,

and I ordaine and make overseers of this my said will and Testament my loving brothers in lawe Mr William Baker Clarke and Mr William Smith gent to whome I doe give for their paines therein to be taken Forty shillings apeice.

In Witness whereof I have hereunto this my said last Will and Testament put my hand & seale the day and yeare above written. Signum Joane Maxfeild

Memorandum that part of the twenty ninth lyne, and allmost all the thirtieth lyne in the first page were raysed out before the sealing hereof, and also part of the twentieth and one and twentieth lyne in the second page were rased likewise out and these wordes added or interlyned in place thereof vidd my silver beaker.
