In the name of God Amen the v th daye of Aprell and after the Incarnacon of oure Savyoure Jhesys Chryste a thowsonde fyve hundreth fyftye and nyne In the fyrste yere and raigne of o�r Soveraigne Lady Elizabeth the firste by the grace of god of Englande frannce and Irelonde quene defender of the faith &c.
I John Mayhewe of the paryshe of Marden beinge sycke of bodye and hoole of mynde and goode of remembrannce praysed be the everlastinge god Do make this my testamente and laste will in maner and forme followinge
Fyrste I bequith my solle unto Almyghty god my creator and to his sonne Jhesus chryste my Savyor and redemer & my bodye to be buryed in the churche yarde of Marden aforesaide.

Also I will to Josephe my eldeste sonne one ewe a lambe and a peuter plater
Also I will unto Thomas my seconde sonne two lambes and a peuter plater
Also I will unto John my youngeste sonne one ewe and a lambe
Also I will unto Katheryne my doughter iij li of good and lafull moneye of Englande to be paide unto her at the daye of her maryage by my executryce
Also I will that yf Katheryn my doughter do decease before the daye of her maryage then my will ys that the foresaide three pounds shall remayne agayne unto my said wyffe

All the resydue of my goodes and cattalles not bequithed my debts and bequestes payde I geve & bequith unto Alys my wyffe whom I do ordayne & make my sole executrixe of this my testamente & laste will.
Also I do putt in Aurthorytye Thomas Mayhewe my brother to be my oversear of this my presente testamente and laste will and he shall have for hys laboure iiij s and his costes and charge borne.

This ys the laste will of me the aforesayde John Mayhewe made and declared the daye and yere above wrytten upon all my messuage and landes lyinge and beinge in Marden and Stapleherste or elles where.

Itm I will yt Alys my wyffe shall have yerelye owte of all my messuage and landes that I late boughte of Thomas Bysshoppe xiij s and halfe yerelye to be payde that ys to saye at the feaste of Saynte Mychill tharcangell and thannucyacon of oure Ladye the Vyrgyn by even porcons to be paide unto the tyme that Josephe my eldest sonne come to thage of xxij yeres

and for falte of paymente I will that Alys my wyffe shall entre my foresaid messuage & landes and there to dystrayne And the destres there had or founde to take and use accordinge to the lawes of Englande unto the tyme all maner of arerages of the same bequeth that then shalbe behynde with costes and damages be reason thereof sustayned be fullye contente and payde

Also I will unto my eldeste sonnes Josephe and Thomas all mye messuage and w�th thapurten�nces lyinge and beinge in the paryshe of Marden to them and to theyre heyres for ever.
Also I will one greate cheste to remayne unto my saide howse standinge in the newe lofte over the halle.
Also I will that yf anye of my eldeste sonnes decease before they come to thage of xxj yeres and with owte ysssue of theire bodyes lafully begoten I will thone to be thothers heyre.

Also my will ys that Alys my wyffe shall take thyssues and profetts of thre peces of lande called Hoppers lyinge and beinge in paryshe of Stapleherste duryinge her naturall lyffe w�thowte stryppe or waste.
Also I will that and yf my wyffe do stryppe or waste or anye for her excepte for lafull hedges boute and stake? bowte to the value of iij s iiij d Then I will that John my youngeste sonne or anye for hym shall entre into my thre peces of lande with the appurten�nces and expell and put owte my said wyffe for ever.

Also I will that after the decease of my wyffe John my youngeste sonne shall have my saide thre peces of lande lyinge and beinge in the paryshe of Stapleherste with thappurten�nces to hym and to his heyres for ever.

Also I will that and yf my twoe eldeste sonnes decease before they come to lafull age and withowte yssue of theyre bodies lafullye begotten Then I will that yt shall remayne unto John my youngeste sonne to hym and to his heyres for ever.
Also I will that and yf John my youngeste sonne decease before he come to the profetts of his landes and w�thowte yssue of his bodye lafullye begoten Then I will yt shall remayne unto my eldeste sonnes and to theire heyres for ever.
Also I will that and yf all my saide sonnes decease before theye come to lafull age withowte yssue of theire bodyes lafully begoten Then I will yt shall remaine unto Katheryne my doughter and to her heyres for ever.

Also I will that and yf all mye children decease before theye come to lafull age and withowte yssue of theire bodyes lafullye begoten Then I will th�one halfe of my landes to my Brother Thomas Mayhewes children to them and to theyre heyres for ever. And the other halfe of my saide landes I will to my Syster Johanes children to them and to theyre heyres for ever.

Notes:
Marden baptism register begins in April 1559, marriages and burials start in 1561.
John son of John Mayowe was christened the 22 Apr 1559
son Thomas married Katherine Symons in 1575 & son Joseph married Elizabeth before 1582. Both had Mayow/Mayhow issue.
