In the name of God Amen the last Will and Testament of me Mathias Rutton Senr in manner and form following
First I bequeath my Soule to allmighty God my Creatour earnestly beseeching him for his mercyes sale and for that bitter death and passions sake which I believe his dearly beloved sonne and my only Saviour hath suffered for me to forgive me of my sinns and to receive it and give it a place with him in his Heavenly kingdom
my body I give to the Earth to be buried in the Church at Borton under the stone a little below the pulpitt and privately as may be in the Evening
Fower poore men carryeing it to the grave and they having halfe a Crowne a peice for their paines

and my maidservant that then is to have halfe a Crowne for gathering together the linnen my wives wearing Cloaths I give to her
forty shillings I give to the poore of Borton to be distributed at the discretion of my Executor
Twelve pence I give to my daughter Mary the wife of Stephen Hunt
Twelve pence I give to my daughter Anne the wife of John Tonge and my hanging presse

and for my rest of my worldly Estate as Lands money in my possession at my death debts Houshold goods and all things whatsoever which are not already given to him by deed of Guift I now in this my last will and Testament give to my only sonne Mathias Rutton whereof I make him my whole and sole Executor

In witnesse whereof I have sett my hand and seale to these presents the day and yeare first above written * in the presence of us Mathias Rutton senr

Probatum fuit huiusmodi suprascriptum Mathias Rutton nuper de Borton Munchelsea Archinat Cant defuncti decimo octavo die mensis Januarii Anno Domini 1685 Coram magistro Thoma Johnson Clerico Surrogato legitime venerabilis viri Thoma Bouchier legum Doctoris Reverendi viri Domini Archini Cant officialis legitime duputat Juramento Mathia Rutton filii etc dicti defuncti et Executoris in eodem Testamento nominat ac inde approbat et onus etc Commissum fuit prefato Executori prius ad sancta etc Jurat Salvo Jure cujuscunque etc
