Will of Timothy Sales

of Downe, Kent

I give and bequeath to each of my four children namely the said William Sales Timothy Sales Elizabeth the wife of William Lewis of Down aforesaid and Keziah the wife of the said Thomas Kewell Gorbell the legacy or sum of fifty pounds sterling

Also I give and bequeath to my said Executrix and Executors the sum of seven hundred pounds three per cent reduced annuities and the further sum of four hundred pounds three per cent consolidated bank annuities now severally standing in my name in the Books of the Governor and Company of the Bank of England upon trust to permit and suffer my said dear wife to receive and take the dividends interest and proceeds thereof to and for her own use and benefit during the term of her natural life and from and after her decease upon trust to transfer and pay the same unto and equally between my said two daughters Elizabeth Lewis and Keziah Gorbell share and share alike their executors and administrators

Also I give devise and bequeath unto my said dear wife all my freehold messuages lands and hereditaments situate in the several parishes of Down aforesaid in Cudham in the said County or elsewhere and the rents and profits arising therefrom to hold the same to her my said wife and her assigns for and during the term of her natural life she and they keeping the same in good and tenantable repair and properly insured from time to time from loss or damage by fire

and from and after her decease I give and devise unto my said son William Sales all that my freehold public house commonly called the Queen�s Head situate in the said parish of Down with the outbuildings garden and appurtenances thereto belonging now in my own occupation
and also all those my two freehold messuages or cottages near or adjoining to the Church yard of Down aforesaid now in the occupation of ___ Martin and of the said William Lewis with the gardens and appurtenances thereunto respectively belonging situate in the parish of Down aforesaid
and also all that piece or parcel of freehold meadow land containing by admeasurement about seven acres more or less situate in the parish of Down aforesaid also in my own occupation with the rights easements members and appurtenances thereto belonging to hold the same unto my said son William Sales his heirs and assigns for ever

And from and after the decease of my said wife I give and devise unto my son Timothy Sales all those my two freehold messuages or cottages with the gardens and appurtenances thereto respectively belonging in the several occupations of ___ Carter and ___ Best situate in the parish of Down aforesaid
and also all those my two wooden built messuages or cottages with the gardens and appurtenances thereto respectively belonging in the several occupations of the said William Sales and Henry Smith situate in the said parish of Down
and also all that my freehold Carpenters yard with the workshops outbuildings and appurtenances thereto belonging or therewith used and now in my own occupation situate in the parish of Down aforesaid
and also all that my freehold brick and flint built messauge or cottage with the garden and appurtenances thereto belonging now in the occupation of William Brasier or his undertenants situate in the parish of Cudham aforesaid to hold the same last � � hereditaments unto my said son Timothy Sales his heirs and assigns for ever

And all the rest and residue of my estate and my effects as well real and personal whatsoever and wheresoever and of what nature or kind soever I give devise and bequeath unto my said wife to hold to her my said wife her heirs executors administrators and assigns and hereby revoking all other wills by me at any time heretofore made I declare this only to be my last will and testament

In Witness whereof I the said Timothy Sales the testator to this my will contained in two sheets of paper have to the first sheet set my hand and to the second and last sheet set my hand and affixed my seal this eleventh day of December in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and forty � Timothy Sales � Signed sealed published and declared by the within named Timothy Sales the Testator as and for his last Will and Testament in the presence of us in his presence and in the presence of each other and at his request have subscribed our names as witnesses thereto the word �two� on the fourth line from the bottom and the word �second� on the third line from the bottom and the word �two� on the third line from the bottom having been first written upon erasure

Proved at London 20th Feb�y 1841 before the Worshipful Alfred Waddilove Doctor of Laws & Surrogate by the oaths of Elizabeth Sales widow the Relict & William Sales the son and Thomas Kewell Gorbell the Executors to whom admon was granted having been first sworn duly to administer.
