I hereby appoint my son Joseph Sales
of Park corner aforesaid and William Walter Rake Maker also of Park Corner afresaid
Executors of this my last Will
I give and bequeath unto my s[ai]d Executors their heirs and
assigns all my real and personal property of what nature or description soever In trust as
hereinafter mentioned that is to say (after payment of my just debts and testamentary and
funeral expences) out of the rents and profits of the said property to apprentice my great
grandson Joseph Sales who is now a Cripple
And to pay the residue of the s[ai[d rents and profits to my dear wife Lucy for her life
and after her death to pay her funeral
expences out of he s[ai]d rents and profits and after the s[ai]d payments shall have been
made then to pay the residue of the s[ai]d rents and profits to my son Joseph Sales for
and during the term of his natural life
And after her? death I desire my s[ai]d executors to
sell and dispose of my s[ai]d property so divided and given to him in trust as aforesaid and
to divide the proceeds thereof equally share and share alike between Margaret Sales the
now Wife of my Son Joseph Sales and the children of my s[ai]d Son Joseph Sales
(who shall be living at the time of his death) and the children of my daughter Sarah
Botten, who shall be living at the time of the death of the said Joseph Sales)
Provided that
if any or either of my said grandchildren shall have died leaving no lawful issue then the
share of such grandchild or grandchildren so dying whatever original or accruing shall go
to and be divided equally amongst the survivors
And I further desire my s[ai]d executors ...
during the time that my s[ai]d Son is entitled to the s[ai]d rents and profits to cut down and
sell timber to the amount of �5 and to pay the proceeds thereof to my s[ai]d Son for his
better maintenance
And I further strictly enjoin and desire my s[ai]d Grandchildren to treat
their parents with all due respect and attention.

The mark X of Samuel Sales ---- Signed by the said Samuel sales the Testator in the
presence of W[itnesse]s present at the same time who in his presence have subscribed
our names as witnesses �

Proved at London the 17th day of September 1855 before the Worshipful Samuel Fewkes Wainboy Doctor of Laws and Surrogate by the oath of William Walter the surviving executor to whom administration was granted having been first sworn duly to administer.
Notes:
This will was made on 9 March 1852 for Samuel Sales born about 1759 (baptised 13
March 1763 St Mary Speldhurst), who married Lucy Turk 12 October 1785.
Samuel was buried 11 February 1855, so it took seven months for the will to be proved on 17
September 1855.
Samuel's son Joseph was buried on 30 May 1855, which is why William Walter became the sole executor.
