In the name of God: Amen the Seaven and twentieth day of February Anno domini 1616 [1616/17]
I Thomas Savedge of Speldhurst in the Countie of Kent Husbandman beinge sick in bodye but of perfect perfect mind ad good remembrance thankes be to Almightie God, doe make and ordayne this my last will and testament in manner and forme followinge (that is to say)
First and principally I give and bequeath my Soule to Allmightie God my maker and redeemer
And my bodie to be buried in the church yarde of Speldhurst at the discretion of Thomas Frye Sennr [Senior] whome I doe make and ordayne to be the whole and sole Executor of this my present Will

Item I give unto the said Thomas Frye eleven poundes of Lawfull money of England uppon this condicon that the first Thomas shall make a good and lawfull assurance out of his land unto Johane Savidge my Sister for the true and just payment of Twentie shillings yearlie everie yeare during her naturall liffe the same to be paid halfe yearly by even portions

Item I give unto the said Johane Savidge my Sister one payer of sheetes to be delivered unto her by my said executor
Item I give unto Jane Savidge my kinswoman one payer of sheetes to be delivered unto her by my said executor
Item Item I give unto John Frye sonne of the said Thomas Frye my fether bed and Fether boulster

Item I give unto Elizabeth wife of Thomas Breecher my warminge panne and Joyned boxe to be delivered to her by my sid executor
Item I give unto William Barr one Acre and a halfe of wheate in Chiddingstone
And all the residue of my goodes unbequeathed I give unto the said Thomas Frye my Executor

In Witnes whereof I have hereunto sett my hand and Seale the daye and yeare above written in the presence of
Thomas Savedge his marke - Richard Apsae? his marke - Richard Eldridge

Probatum fuit: 31st March 1617

Notes:
Thomas Savedge was buried at St. Mary the Virgin, Speldhurst on 6th March 1616/17.
In the parish register, he is given as: “Thomas Savag burye in March 6” – not exactly literate!
Neither his, nor his Sister Johane’s christenings, have been found.
