In the name of God Amen the Tenth daie of May one thousand sixe hundred twenty fower, in the two and twentyth yere of the Raigne of our Soveraigne Lord James by the grace of God Kinge of England Frannce and Ireland defender of the faith etc. & of Scotland the seaven and Fiftyth
I Paterick Savage of Aylesford in the County of Kent, Cooke sometymes Servannt to the late right Worll [Worshipful] Sr [Sir] William Sidley Knight and Barronett now deceased, (weighinge and consideringe the uncertainty of this temporall life, and knowinge nothinge morecertayne, then death to all man kind and nothinge more uncertayne than the hower [hour] and tyme thereof) doe therefore in my perfect memory make and declare this my present testament conteyning my last will in manne(r) and forme followinge (vizt.)
First and principally I commend my soule into the hands of Almightie God my maker, by whose mercies, through the meritorious death and passion of my heavenly Saviour and Redeemer Jesus Christ, I doe assuredly trust to obtayne free remission of all my Sinnes and eternall Salvation, And I commend my body to the earth to bee Christennly buried whence it may please God to call mee

Item I give and bequeath the Some of three score pounds of lawfull money of England, to and amongst the poore people of the aforesaid pish [parish] of Aylesford in the said County of Kent, to bee ymployed [employed] and bestowed for a stocke? to the most comfortable releife of the said poore people, as the Minister and Churchwardens there, for the tyme beinge, shall thinke most meete and convenient
And I likewise give to three score poore people of Aylesford aforesaid, two pence apeece in bread, and fower pence apeece in money to bee bestowed upon them at my buriall

Item I will that there bee five pounds of lawfull english money bestowed by my Executors [Executors] hereafter named space a Tombstone or furhther monument of memoriall of mee, by the name of Paterick Savage sometymes Cooke to the said Sr William Sidley to bee layd and sett over my body and to bee buryed neere Mr. Houlden in the Church of Aylesford and to bee engraven upon Stone with the memoriall of my gift given to Aylesford parish
Item I will that there shall bee five pounds more of lawfull english money bestowed by my Executors for the Charge of my buryall as then in theire best discretion shall thinke fitt
Item I give to the Ringers at my Buryall ten shillinges

Item I give to every of the brethyren of Sir William Sidleyes hospitall in Aylesford to each of them five shillings apeece
And I give to the said house fower pounds in money Soe that they deliver to my Executors the goods and household stuffe brought in by mee, wch [which] goods if they shall be delivered I bequeath to Margaret Fryer my ladies late servant and Chrystian Mrs. Verdons kinswoman or else the fower pounds betweene them if the goods be not delivered out

Item I give for and toward the inlarginge and betteringe of the Cupp in Ayelsford aforesaid twenty shillings and for and towards a communion cloth, five shillings and eight pence
Item I give for and towards the repayre of the Chruch at Aylesford Ten pounds

Item I give to Mr. Smith of Aylesford to preach for mee att my funerall twenty shillings
Item I give to Margaret my Countrey woman a Widowe in Maidstone forty shillings
Item I give to my loveinge friend John May Scrivenor dwellinge in the parish of St. Sepulchers wthout Newgate London forty shillings

Item I give to Thomas (blank) the sonne of George (blank) , Cooke to Mr. Culpepper forty shillings
Item I give to longe Susan at Mr. Culpeppers Twenty shillings to make her a ringe
Item I give to the foresad Margaret Fryer five pounds
Item I give to Henry Austin sonne of my neighbour (blank) Austin ten pounds
Item I give to Rowland Colgan one of his Ma'ties servants forty shillings
Item I give to Mr. William Manley and his wife at Aylesford twentie shillings apeece, to make each of them a Ringe
Item I give to Richard Rolfe now servant to Sr John Sidley knight five pounds
Item I give to Elizabeth Shewsmith now wife of Edward Samon sometymes Servant to the aforesaid Sr William Sidley twenty shillings

Item I give to my fellow Johnson Taylor late of Chauncery lane forty shillings
Item I give to Lawrence Faggen dwellinge in Aylesford the sume of three pounds and my wearinge apparell
Item I give to my friend Savage dwelling wthin a yard at the Boores Head in Fleet street neere Fleetbridge London forty shillings
Item I give to ye woman that shall looke to mee and attend mee in my sicknes twenty shillings

Item I give to my Executors hereafter named ten pounds apeece for theire paynes to bee taken herein and the rest of my estate I give and bequeath to the poores stocke at Aylesford aforesaid

And of this my last will and testament I doe make and ordayne Mr. Robert Mathewes one of his Ma'ties [Majesty’s] Servants, and William Manley Servant to the Right worll [Worshipful] Sr John Sidley knight full Executors

In Witnes whereof I have hereunto sett my hand and Seale,the daie and yere first abovewritten

Signed Sealed published and declared by the said Testator for his last will in the presence of
Beniamin Rawlins Tallowe Chandler and Richard Hawes Servant to John May Scrivenor

Probatum fuit: 24th May 1625 to Robert Mathewes and William Manley.

Notes:
William Sidley of Aylesford, Kent was the son of John Sidley of Southfleet, Kent, and Anne, daughter of John Culpeper of Aylesford.
He became the 1st Baronet of Aylesford in 1611 and died in 1618. He was succeeded by his son John
Parish registers are missing pre-1653 for this parish – which is very annoying!
