I so make constitute and appoint Thomas Charlton of Loose Hill in the Parish of Loose in the said County of Kent Gentleman sole Executor of this my Will
Item I give and bequeath unto the poor people of that Parish of Boughton Monchelsea aforesaid the Sum of Ten Pounds to be distributed by my said Executor unto and amongst such poor old Men and Women (but chiefly among poor Widows of the said Parish not receiving Alms of the said Parish) as my said Executor shall think fit
I give and bequeath unto my Servant William Hartridge (in case he shall be living with me at the time of my Decease) the Sum of Thirty Pounds of lawful Money of Great Britain over and above what shall be due to him for Wages or otherwise to be paid him by my Executor within three Months next after my decease
Item I give and bequeath unto my Servant William Smith in case he shall be living with me at the time of my Decease) the Sum of Ten Pounds of like money over and above what shall be due to him for Wages or otherwise to be paid him by my Executor within three Months next after my Decease
Item I give and bequeath unto each of my other Servants who shall be living with me at the time of my decease and shall have lived with me one whole Year (except the said William Hartridge and William Smith) one whole Years Wages respectively over and above what shall be due to them for Wages or otherwise to be paid within One Month next after my decease
I give and bequeath and do order and direct my said Executor the said Thomas Charlton to retain and
keep in his hands the Sum of Fifty pounds of like Money Upon the Trusts and for the purposes hereafter mentioned (that is to say)
Upon Trust that he the said Thomas Charlton his Executors and Administrators shall and do by and out
of the said Sum of Fifty pounds pay the Sum of Three Shillings and Sixpence Weekly to John Bourn
during his natural Life provided the Parish to which the said John Bourn belongs pays unto the said John
Bourne such Weekly or other allowance as by Law they ought to do in case I had given him nothing by this my Will
The Bequest herein before contained being by me intended as an Augmentation to his Parochial allowance and to make his living more easy and comfortable But in case the Parish shall not allow him the same as if I had not given him any thing Then I revoke this Bequest And in that case and also in case the said John Bourn shall die before he shall have received the said whole Sum of Fifty pounds, Then I order and direct that such part of the said Sum of Fifty pounds herein before by me given for the benefit of the said John Bourn as shall not have been paid him may be deemed part of my Personal Estate and go with the same accordingly
Item I give and bequeath unto my late Husband’s Sister Ann Hubble the Portrait Pictures of her Father and Mother and her Grand Father and Grand Mother and of her Uncle and Aunt to be delivered to her as soon as may be after my decease
Item I give and bequeath my Suit of Point Lace, my Diamond Ear Rings, my Gold Watch and Case and Chain Etc. and Trinkets and my Sable Muff and Tippet unto my three Nieces the daughters of my Brother Richard Gulston Esquire to be equally divided between them by my said Brother Richard and to be delivered to them as soon as may be after my decease
tem I give and bequeath three of my best Suits of Lace (except the suit of point Lace before mentioned) and three of my best Sacques unto Mrs. Elizabeth Gulston (my Father’s Wife) if she thinks them worth her acceptance to be delivered to her as soon as may be after my decease
Item all the rest of my Silk and other Gowns Sacques and other Wearing apparel of all sorts I give and bequeath equally to be divided between all such Maid Servants as may be living with me at the time of my decease
Item I desire my Executor to give unto
Mr. Ward (who married my late Husband’s Sister)
Benjamin Hubble of West Malling Esquire and the said Mrs. Ann Hubble his Wife
Mr. Reid and Mrs. Reid his Wife (the daughter of the said Mr. Ward)
Mr. Thomas Augustus Douce and Mrs. Margaret Douce his Wife,
Miss Catherine Hubble,
my Brother the Reverend Mr. Francis Gulston and his Wife
and my Friend Mr. Thomas Crispe
and to each of them a Gold Ring of a Guinea price to wear in remembrance of me
Item as to all the residue and remainder of my Money and Securities for Money Household Goods and Furniture Stock on my Farm and all other my Personal Estate whatsoever and wheresoever and of what nature kind or quality soever the same be not herein before otherwise disposed of (after and subject to the payment of my Debts Legacies and Funeral Expences) I give and bequeath the same and every part thereof and all my Estate and Interest therein unto my said Executor the said Thomas Charlton his Executors and Administrators
Upon Trust that he my said Trustee and Executor his Executors and Administrators shall and do as soon as conveniently may be after my decease sell and convert into ready Money all such part and parts thereof as shall not consist of Money or Securities for Money and shall and do receive and get in all such parts thereof as shall consist of Money or Securities for Money And shall and do thereupon or with all convenient speed then afterwards invest and lay out the Monies arising by such Sale or Sales and to be received and got in as is last mentioned together with all other the Residuum of my Personal Estate (after and Subject as aforesaid) in the purchase of three per Cent Consolidated Bank Annuities
And Upon further Trust that he my said Trustee and Executor his Executors and Administrators shall
and do pay apply and disposes of the Interest dividends and proceed of the said Trust Stock as the same
shall become due and be received unto my Father Francis Gulston and his Assigns during his Life
And Upon further Trust that he my said Trustee and Executor his Executors and Administrators shall and do
after the decease of my said Father Francis Gulston assign and transfer the said Trust Stock and all
Interest due thereupon and unreceived by my said Father unto my said three Nieces, the daughters of
my said Brother Richard Gulston equally to be divided between them
And in case any or either of my said Nieces shall happen to die before her or their share of the said Trust Stock shall become transferable to her or them as aforesaid Then the part and share of her or them so dying shall go and be payable and transferable unto and among the Survivors or Survivor of them
And my Will is that my said Trustee and Executor his Executors and Administrators shall not be charged or chargeable with or accountable for any more of the aforesaid Trust Monies and Premises than he or they respectively shall actually receive or shall come to their respective Hands by virtue of three Trusts aforesaid nor with or for any Loss which shall happen to the same Trust Monies and Premises or any part thereof, so as such loss happen without his or their wilful defaults
And also that it shall and may be lawful to and for my said Trustee and Executor his Executors and
Administrators in the first place by and out of the aforesaid Trust Monies and Premises to deduct and
reimburse themselves respectively for all such Loss of time Costs trouble and Expences as he they or any
of them shall or may respectively have sustain(ed) expend(ed) or be put unto for or by reason of the
Trusts aforesaid hereby in him and them reposed or the Management and Execution thereof or any other
thing in any wise relating thereunto
And I do revoke all former Wills by me made

Hand and Seal (to wit) my Hand to the first two Sheets and my Hand and Seal to this last Sheet dated the
day and Year first above written

This is a Codicil to the last Will and Testament of me Margaret Savage of Boughton Monchelsea in the County of Kent Widow which I duly made and published bearing date this day
I do hereby give and bequeath unto my Father Francis Gulston in my said Will named the Sum of one
hundred pounds of lawful Money of Great Britain to be paid him by my Executor in my said Will named
within one Month next after my decease out of my Personal Estate
And I do hereby ratify and confirm my Will in all other respects
In Witness whereof I have to this Writing which I declare to be a Codicil to my said Will and desire may be considered
as part thereof set my Hand and Seal the eleventh day of February in the Year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred and eighty

This Will was proved at London with a Codicil the sixteenth day of December in the Year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred and eighty before the Worshipful William Scott Doctor of Laws Surrogate of the Right Worshipful Peter Calvert also Doctor of Laws Master Keeper or Commissary of the Prerogative Court of Canterbury lawfully constituted by the Oath of Thomas Charlton the Sole Executor and Trustee named in the said Will to whom Administration was granted of all and Singular the Goods Chattels and credits of the said deceased He being first Sworn duly to Administer
Notes:
Richard Savage was the son of John and Elizabeth Savage of Boughton Monchelsea, christened there on 9th January 1719/20.
Richard Savage was buried on 25th January 1772 at SS Peter & Augustine, Boughton Monchelsea.
Richard Savage married Margaret Gulston on 1st December 1743 at St. Giles, Wyddial, Hertfordshire.
Margaret daughter of Francis & Sarah Goulston was baptised 2 Mar 1723 at Wyddial, Hertfordshire.
Richard and Margaret had two known daughters:
31 Oct 1746 Barbara; 21 Jan 1749 Margaret – at All Saints, West Farleigh.
Margaret Savage (of this Will) died and was buried on 19th December 1780 at Boughton Monchelsea.
