In the Name of God Amen the thirty first day of July in the twenty first year if the Reign of our Sovereign Lord George the Third by the Grace of God of Great Britain France and Ireland King Defender of the Faith etc. and in the Year of our Lord 1781
I Elizabeth Savage of Maidstone in the County of Kent Widow being of sound and disposing mind and memory praised be God do make and ordain this my last Will and Testament in manner and form following (that is to say)
First and principally I Surrender up my Soul into the Hands of Almighty God my Creator hoping to be saved by and through the only Merits and Satisfaction of Jesus Christ my Saviour and Redeemer and my Body I commit to the Earth to be decently Interred and Buried in the Parish Church of Boughton Mounchelsea [Monchelsea] in the said County of Kent by and under the direction of my Executrix hereinafter appointed

And I do desire that all my just Debts which I may happen to owe at my Death be discharged and paid without delay
And I give and bequeath unto my friend and Cousin Thomas Cradoch [Cradock] Doctor of Physic ten Guineas as an acknowledgement for the trouble he has had in the many visits he has made me in my Illness when he always declined accepting of any Fee to be presented to him within three Months next after my decease

And I give and bequeath unto Ralph Ward Esquire the sum of twenty pounds of lawful Money of Great Britain
And I give and bequeath unto Mary Langton Williams with whom I now live ten Guineas to be paid her within three Months next after my decease
And I give and bequeath unto the said Mary Langton Williams all my wearing Apparel of every kind to be delivered to her within one Month next after my decease

I give and bequeath unto the poor of the Parish of Boughton Mounchelsea (sic) aforesaid ten Guineas to be distributed amongst them by my Executrix hereinafter named And I recommend it to my said Executrix to admit poor Widowers and Widow to the chief and greatest benefit of this bequest but as not absolutely to exclude any other poor persons of the said Parish whom she shall find to be in necessitous Circumstances

And I give and bequeath one Moiety or half part of all the rest residue and remainder of my ready Money Securities for Money Goods Chattels and personal Estate whatsoever and wheresoever not herein by me otherwise disposed of unto my Grand Daughters Catherine Hubble and Margaret Dowse equally to be divided between them share and share alike
And the other Moiety or half part thereof unto my Grand Daughter Elizabeth Read

And I do make nominate and appoint my said Grand daughter Catherine Hubble sole Executrix of this my last Will and Testament
And I do hereby revoke all former Wills by me made

In Witness whereof I the said Elizabeth Savage have to this my last Will and Testament set my Hand and Seal dated the day and year first above written

Signed Sealed Published and declared by the above named Elizabeth Savage as and for her last Will and Testament in the presence of us , the word “twenty” being first Interlined or Witten between the twelfth and thirteenth lines

This Will was proved at London the tenth day of October in the year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred and eighty two before the Worshipful John Fisher Doctor of Laws Surrogate of the Right Worshipful Peter Calvert Doctor of Laws Master Keeper or Commissary if the Prerogative Court of Canterbury lawfully constituted by the Oath of Catherine Hubble Spinster the Sole Executrix named in the said Will to whom Administration was granted of all and singular the Goods Chattels and Credits of the deceased She having been first sworn duly to Administer

Elizabeth Savage was buried at SS Peter & Augustine, Boughton Monchelsea, widow of John Savage, on 31st August 1782, aged 93.
This gives a birth date of circa 1689.
John Savage’s known children (all christened at Boughton Monchelsea):
29-Dec 1713 Ann; 22-Aug 1715 Elizabeth (bur 26 Mar 1717); 7-Oct 1716 Mary (bur 24 Apr 1717); 20-Nov 1717 Frances (bur 28 Jan 1717/8);
09-Jan 1719/20 Richard; 21 Jul 1721 John (bur 27 Jul 1721); 14-Apr 1725 Catherine; (to John, Esq. & Elizabeth)
Husband John Savage was buried at Boughton Monchelsea on 15th April 1726, and was given as: “Mr. John Savage” – indicating he was a person of some importance in the area.

From Edward Hasted and his History and Topographical Survey of the County of Kent (1798): Boughton Mount, one of the Manors of Boughton Monchelsea was owned by the Alchone family from Uckfield in Sussex. Ann Alchone, d. of John Alchone, married John Savage of Lions Inn, descendant of the Blexworth, Devon, Savages.
John’s first wife Ann Savage was buried at Boughton Monchelsea 16th May 1712, “Wife of Mr. John”.

Daughter Ann Savage, married Mr. Benjamin Hubble of West Malling on 11th October 1739, at Boughton Monchelsea.
