I give devise and bequeath all my lands tenements hereditaments and premises called or known by the name of Ballygelgat or Rock Savage situate in the County of Down in the Kingdom of Ireland with their appurtenances unto my Son Henry John Savage (a Major in the Royal Engineers) his heirs executors administrators and assigns for ever
And I give devise and bequeath all my leasehold lands tenements hereditaments and premises
called or known by the name of “Priest Town” in the County of Down in Ireland held by me on lease from John Erhlin Esquire and the
Bishop of Down and also a small freehold Farm called or known by the name of “Nuns Bridge” in the said County with their
appurtenances unto my Wife Lady Savage for her life
and after her decease I give devise and bequeath the same last mentioned estates unto my Sons John Morris Savage (a Captain in
the Royal Artillery) and my Son Francis James Sammerez Savage (a Captain in the Royal Marines) their heirs executors administrators
and assigns equally as tenants in common
And I give and bequeath one moiety or half part of and in all and every my shares in the Amicable Assurance Company (the other moiety or
half part having been settled on the marriage of my said Son Francis James Sammerez Savage) and the money raised thereby unto my
executors hereinafter named In Trust to pay or permit and suffer Lady Savage to receive the dividends and interest of the same moiety of
the said shares for her life
and after her decease to assign the said moiety of the said shares or the produce thereof unto my said Son John Morris Savage and to and
for his own use and benefit absolutely
And I give and bequeath unto my said wife all my plate for her life and after her decease I give and bequeath the same unto and equally to be divided between my said two Sons John Morris Savage and Francis James Sammerez Savage
And as to all the rest residue and remainder of my estate and effects whatsoever and wheresoever and or what nature or quality soever either in possession, reversion, remainder or expectancy or otherwise howsoever and over which I may have a disposing power at the time of my decease I give devise and bequeath the same unto my said Wife Lady Savage her heirs executors administrators and assigns absolutely and for ever
And I hereby appoint Charles Edward Cox of Hatton Garden London Esquire, Harry Savage (a Lieutenant in the Royal Marines) and Charles Savage a Major in the East India Company’s Service Executors of this my last Will and Testament hereby revoking and making void all former and other will and wills by me at any time heretofore made and do declare this only to be and contain my last will and Testament
And I will and declare that my executors herein named shall be at liberty to deduct and retain to themselves and himself by and out of my estate all costs damages and expences they or he may be put to in the execution of this my will and that they shall not be answerable the one for the other or others of them but each of them for his own wilful default acts and neglects only
In Witness whereof I have to this my last will contained in two sheets of paper set my hand to the first
sheet thereof and my hand and seal to this second and last sheet thereof this fourteenth day of March

This is a Codicil to my Will dated this fourteenth day of March 1842
Whereas my Son Henry John Savage Major of the Royal Engineers is indebted to me in the sum of Two hundred and fifty pounds for which I hold his promissory note Now I do hereby release my Son from payment of the said Sum of two hundred and fifty pounds and all interest due thereupon

Appeared Personally William Moulden Burton of Woolwich in the County of Kent Esquire a
Lieutenant Colonel in the Royal Marines and made Oath that he is one of the subscribed witnesses to
the last will and Testament with a Codicil thereto of Sir John Boscawen Savage late of Woolwich
aforesaid Major General in her Majesty’s Army Colonel in the Royal Marines, Knight, Commander of
the Bath and Knight Commander of the Guelphic Order of Hanover etc. deceased the said Codicil
bearing date the fourteenth day of March One thousand eight hundred and forty two now hereunto annexed
And he further made oath that on the fourteenth day of March aforesaid the said Testator duly
executed his said Codicil by signing his name at the foot or end thereof in the presence of this
deponent and of Andrew Schalch the other subscribed witness thereto who was present at the same
time and this deponent and the said Andrew Schalch thereupon attested and subscribed the said Codicil in the presence of the said Testator

Notes:
Sir John Boscawen Savage was commissioned into the Royal Marines in January 1777.
He became colonel commandant of the Chatham division in June 1825 and Deputy Adjutant-General Royal Marines in March 1831, remaining in
that post until shortly before he was promoted to major-general in January 1837. He was appointed a “Knight Commander of the Order of the
Bath” on 25th October 1839.
He died 8th March 1843 at Woolwich and was buried there on 15th March aged 83.
“K.C.H.” The Royal Guelphic Order - sometimes referred to as the “Hanoverian Guelphic Order”, is a Hanoverian order of chivalry instituted
on 28 April 1815 by the Prince Regent (later King George IV).
John Boscawen Savage, 21, Bachelor, a Gentleman in the Royal Marines, otp., married Sophia Cock, 21, Spinster of Portsmouth at Alverstoke,
Hampshire, by Licence dated 25 Oct 1786. Bondsman: John Cock of Portsmouth. (Married 30th October.)
He was baptised at Hereford 25 Feb 1760 son of Marmaduke Coghill & Hannah Savage.
