In the name of God Amen I Abraham le Sedt dwelling in the Cittie of Canterbury being in good sound memory and understanding & acknowledging the frayltie [frailty] of mankinde That there is nothing more certaine than death and lesse uncertaine than the howrethereof with mature deliberation have made this my last will and testament in manner and forme following
First I recommend my Soule To Almightie God Creator and Maker thereof praying him to receive it to mercy when it shalbe seperated from its body And this by the merritt of the death and passion of his sonne Jesus Christ our Lord whom I acknowledge for my alone Saviour and redeemer And as for my body that it be decently buried and interred according to the Order holden or observed in this Church of Canterbury therefor to rest untill the last resurrection then for to taker againe its Soule for to enioy eternall blessednesse with the most happie Saints
And for the temporall goods which is hath pleased God to give unto me in this world

I give to the poore of the Walloone Church in Canterbury * whereof I am a member That is to say To that which Joseph Ponjuda doth now apreach the Sum of five pounds sterling to be paid to the Deacons of the same Church

Item I give to my Brother and Sister that is to say to Samuell Le Sedt the eldest and Mary Le Sedt wife of John Le Spayne And Cornelius Le Sedt And James Le Sedt And to the Children of Isaacke Le Sedt deceased That is to say to Jacob and Cornelius and James and Abraham and John Le Sedt the which five make one head representing their Father deceased I give unto them all together the Sum of three hundred pounds sterling currant money of England That is to say

To Samuell Le Sedt the eldest the Sume of fifty pounds sterling
And to Mary Le Sedt wife of John de Spaigne the Sum of fifty pounds sterling
And to Cornelius Le Sedt the Sum of fifty pounds sterling
And to James Le Sedt the Sume of one hundred pounds sterling
And to the Children of Isaacke Le Sedt deceased That is to say
Jacob Le Sedt the Sum of tenn pounds sterling
And to Cornelius Le Sedt the Sume of tenn pounds sterling
And to James Le Sedt the Sume of tenn pounds sterling
And to Abraham Le Sedt the sume of tenn pounds sterling
And to John Le Sedt the Sume of tenn pounds sterling

And touching the parte and portcons [portions] of the young Children of Isaacke Le Sedt deceased of them which are under aged I will and ordaine that their part be put into the hands of my Brother John Spagne untill they shall attaine the age of one and twenty yeares And for the payment of the above said Legacie it shalbe at the choyce [choice] of my wife to give bills either beyond the Sea or here in England for to make up the said Sume

And all the rest of my goods I give to my wife for her to dispose of And to that end that this my present last will and testament may be fully effected according to the intent thereof I have made and named Susan Sedt my Wife Executrix and for assistant my Brother in Law Edward Le Reux reserving unto me power and authoritie this my present testament to change augment diminish or wholly to annihilate

In consideration of the trusts I have Signed this my present last will and testament the one and twentieth day of May One thousand Six hundred forty nyne Abraham Sedt
In the presence of John de Spaigne Edward Le Reux Cornlius Sedt John Mannike ye elder

Probatum fuit: 22nd June 1649.

Notes: * The Walloon Church is in the crypt of Canterbury Cathedral, and is where the Huguenots worshipped when they had to leave France many centuries ago, due to religious persecution.
