Settlement Examinations from Sevenoaks Petty Sessions records 1812-1850.
All examinations in which reference to one of the six parishes of Westerham, Brasted, Sundridge, Edenbridge, Hever and Chiddingstone is made are listed below.
The purpose of the examination was to establish which parish was liable to support the pauper. If a man served in a parish for 365 days he became a parishioner; if he only served for 364 days he did not!
This sort of technical detail has been omitted, together with references to the wages of the examinants.
