In the Name of God Amen the 20th Day of June in the Yeare of Our Lord 1651.
I MARTIN SHEPHEARD of London Esqr. Being sicklie and weake in bodye but of sound and perfect memorie (praised be God) therefore doe make and ordaine this my last Will and Testament in manner and forme following (that is to saie)
First and principallie I surrender my Soule into the Handes of Almightie God my Maker trustinge and through the Merritts Death and Passion of my onlie Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ assuredlie hopeinge for salvation thereof
And my Bodie I commend unto the Earth from whence it came to be well and decentlie buryed in the Parishe Church of East Mallinge in Kent as neere unto my late Wife as convenientlie may be.
And as for such worldlie Goodes as God in mercy hath blessed me withall I give and dispose thereof as followeth.

First I give and bequeath unto the poore people of the Parishe of East Mallinge aforesaid fortie shillinges of good English money to be by my Executor hereinafter named paied and distributed amongst them within one moneth next after my decease.

Alsoe whereas my Brothers [sonnes?] JAMES SHEPHEARD Clerke and RICHARD SHEPHEARD are justlye and truly indebted unto me in severall sumes of money I give and bequeath unto my daughter ELIZABETH the nowe Wife of JAMES HADLEY the sume of tenne poundes of good English money to be by my Executor paied unto her out of the money due and oweing unto me by my said Brothers JAMES and RICHARD SHEPHEARD which shalbe by my said Executor first obteyned and received of them or either of them.

Alsoe I give and bequeath unto JAMES HADLEY and ELIZABETH HADLEY the Sonne and Daughter of my said Sonne in Lawe JAMES HADLEY by the said ELIZABETH my Daughter the sume of five poundes apeece of good and lawfull English money to be likewise paid unto them respectively out of the money due and oweing unto me by my said Brothers JAMES and RICHARD SHEPHEARD which shalbe by my Executor first obteyned and received of them or either of them after my said Daughter ELIZABETH shalbe satisfied her Legacie aforesaid.

Alsoe I give and bequeath unto my Sonne in Lawe JAMES HADLEY the sume of twentie shillinges of good English money to be paid unto him out of the money due and oweing unto me by my said Brothers JAMES and RICHARD SHEPHEARD which shalbe by my Executor first obteyned and received of them or either of them after my said Daughter and her Children before named shalbe satisfied their severall and respective Legacies aforesaid.

All the Rest and Residue of my Goodes Chattells whatsoever my Debts Legacies and Funerall Expenses first being paid and discharged I give and bequeath unto my Sonne RICHARD SHEPHEARD whome I make and ordaine Sole Executor of this my last Will and Testament.
