In the name of God amen
I John Sills of Badlesmeere in the County of Kent Blacksmith make my last Will and Testament in manner following (that is to say)
First I commend my soul into the hands of Almighty God assuredly trusting inand through the onely merritts of Jesus Christ my onely Saviour and Redeemer to be saved
And my body I committ to the earth decently to be buried by my Executor hereinafter named And my temporall estate I give devise and bequeath as hereafter followeth vizt

I give and devise to my sonne John Sills and to his heires All my Messuages Lands Tenements and hereditaments with their and every of their appurtenances scituate lyeing and being in the severall parishes of Badlesmeere aforesaid and in Sheldwitch Throwleigh and Leveland or elsewhere within the said County of Kent
paying out of the same premisses to Elizabeth my loveing wife dureing her naturall life the summe of sixe pounds of lawfull money of England quarterly to be paid by even and equall porcions

And for non payment my will is that my said wife and her Assignes shall enter into all or any of the Lands Tenements & premisses aforesaid and distreine and thereupon proveed according to law as in such cases used for the recovery of such moneys as shall happen to be behinde and unpaid with the costs and charges which shee shall susteine thereby
And soe from time to time if accasion shall require, more over my will is that my said wife shall have the use of the parlour that hath a Chimny to it wherein I now lye dureing her naturall life & alsoe liberty to lay downe wood for burneing at some convenient place on the backside neer my dwelling house & to fetch and use the same and to bake in the Oven and to fetch water from the Well as often as need shall require allowing unto my said sonne John and his heires twenty shillings yearely for the use thereof quarterly to be paid by even and equall porcons

Item I give to my said wife the bedd whereon I now lye in the parlour aforesaid with the furniture thereunto belongeing foure paire of sheets halfe a dozen of Napkins two Towells two tablecloths one fryeing pan one warmeing pan one chamber pott foure pewter dyshes one brasse kettle one little Iron pott one stupnett the least Chest table & Box standing in the parlour wherein I now lye one Chaffindish one paire of Cobirons fire shavell & tongs one Lynnen wheele & Reele
and further I give to my said wife all the Grocery ware which I have in my dwelling house

Item I give to my daughter Jane fiftye shillings to be disposed of as shee shall thinke fitt to be paid to her by my Executor within two yeares next after my decease

Item I give to Edmund Jane and Elizabeth the children of Edmund Scott late of Smarden deceased tenne shillings apeice to be paid by my Executor within two yeares next after my decease.

Item I make my said sonne John Executor to this my last Will and Testament
And I hereby make void all former wills by me made
In wittnes whereof I have hereunto sett my hand & seale dated the third day of June in the yeare of our Lord Christ one thousand sixe hundred eighty and sixe

John Silles ye elder was buried June 9th 1686 at Badlesmere
He was baptised at Leaveland 9 Nov 1634, son of Constantine (and Rabidge)
