In the name of God amen I John Sills of Badlesmeer in the County of Kent Blacksmith being weake in body but in my sound minde and perfect understanding make my last Will and Testament in manner following (that is to say)
First I commend my Soul into the hands of Almighty God assuredly trusting in and through the only merritts of Jesus Christ my onely Saviour and Redeemer to be saved
And my body I committ to the Earth decently to be buryed
And my temporall Estate I give and devise as here after is expressed mentioned and declared (That is to say)

Item I give and devise to my sonne John Sills and his heires All that my Messuage or Tenement wherein I now dwell with the barne stable outhouses shopp hempland yeards closes backsides and ground to the said Messuage belonging with the appurtenance scituate lyeing and being in Badlesmeere aforesaid
And alsoe all my Shopp tooles and ymplements belonging to my trade

Item I give to my said sonne John Sills and his heires my peice or parcell of arable land conteineing about foure acres and a halfe more or less with the appurtenance lyeing and being in Sheldwich in the said County of Kent
And also my two peices or parcells of land called Great Notts and Little Notts conteineing about six acres more or less with the appurtenance lyeing and being in the parish of Leveland in the said County of Kent

Item I give to my daughter Mary Sills and her heires All that my Messuage or Tenement barne outhouses close garden orchard and two peices or parcells of land thereunto belonging called the Croft and Eldress conteineing by estimacon Eight acres more or lesse with the appurtenance scituate lyeing and being in Throwley in the said County of Kent
But I will that Mary my loveing wife shall receive the rents and proffitts of my Messuage and lands which I have given to my daughter towards her bringing upp
And that if my wife thinks fitt I hereby will and impower her to sell my Messuage lands and premisses which I have given to my daughter and the sale which my wife shall make thereof shall stand good against my heires for ever
And the moneys ariseing upon the sale shall be for the use of my wife and daughter.

Item I give my wife the use of soe much of my household goods and lynnen as shee shall thinke fitt to have
Item my will is that my wife shall have and receive the rents of my Messuage and lands which I have given to my sonne John Sills till his full age of one and twenty yeares for and towards his education and bringing upp

Item I will that my sonne John shall pay out of the lands I have given him the summe of five pounds to my daughter within one yeare after he shall come to enjoy the same by vertue of my will

Item I make my said sonne John and my loveing brother in law William Mitchell joint Executors of this my last Will and Testament

Item if my said brother William Mitchell shall thinke it needfull to sell all or any of my said peices of land lyeing in Sheldwich and Leveland or either of them for raiseing moneys to pay my Debts and to supply my sonnes occasions That then my will is that my said brother William Mitchell shall sell all or any of the said peices or parcells of land lyeing in Sheldwich and Leveland aforesaid or either of them as he shall thinke fitt And the moneys ariseing upon the sale shall after my debts paid be for the use and benefitt of my sonne And the sale which my said brother William Mitchell shall make I will shall be good against my heires for ever

Item after my debts paid and the decease of my wife, Then my will is that the rest of my household goods shall be equally divided betweene my two children

Item my Will is that my said brother William Mitchell shall have reasonable satisfaction for his paines and care to be had and taken herein

This is the last Will and Testament of me John Sills
In Witness whereof I have hereunto sett my hand and seale, Dated the ninth day of July in the yeare of our Lord Christ one thousand six hundred ninety and eight
