In the Name of God Amen
I John Sladden of Braborne in the Countie of Kent Yeoman Considering with my selfe the frayle Estate of Man how as grasse he withereth and as a Flower passeth away doemake this my last Will and Testament in manner and forme following
And First I bequeath my Soule to God who gave it me hopeing through the death of Jesus Chris his sonne to have my sinnes pardoned and my body to the Earth from whence it was taken to be decenly buried and my Funerall expences to be paid by mine Executrix hereafter named And for my temporall estate I will and bequeath as followeth

Imprimis I give unto my eldest daughter Mary the Summe of fifteene poundes of Lawfull English money to be paid oute of all that my Messuage or Tenement with all my Lands and the Appurtenances in Braborne where I now live att or within one yeare next after the death of my now Wife Mary and to be paid her my said daughter by my sonne hereafter named unto whom I shall by this my Will give the said Premisses according as hereafter is expressed

Item I give unto my daughter Jane the like Summe of fifteene poundes in lawfull English money to be paide her within two yeares next after the death of her my said Wife Mary to be likewise had paide and received out of all my said Tenement and Landes in all respects according to the former Legacie given to my daughter Mary

Item I give unto my daughter Martha the like Summe of fifteene poundes to be paid her and received out of all the Premisses with their Appurtenances according to the former, and to be paid her within three yeares next after the death of my said now Wife Mary

And my Will is That if any of my said three daughters shall dye before the said Legacies shall become due and payable That then the other surviving or oute liveing shall be each others heire
and if is shall happen that any or all or part of my said three daughters Legacies before given shall be unpaid after the time and times before Specifyed That it shall and may be lawful for such of my daughters which shall be so unpaid to enter upon all the aforesaid Premisses accordinge to Lawe in that case Provided and the same to hould and enjoy untill such Legacie or Legacies are fully paid And all arrereages thereon ariseing (if any be are fully paid)

Item I give unto my Sonne Benjamin and my Sonne John all my aforesaid Messuages or Tenement And all my said Landes Containing nine Acres be it more or lesse with theire Thppurtennces [their Appurtenances] in Braborne aforesaid to be equally devided betwixt them and if either of them dye without issue of theire owne Bodies then to be each other heire to have and to hould the said Premisses with the Appurtenances to them my said two Sonnes from and after the death of her my said Wife Mary to themselves and to theire heires and either of such heires of theire bodies for ever

Item I give unto my said five Children Beniamin John Mary Joane and Marth(a) All such moveable goods Cattle Chattles househould stuffe or other Lumber which shall remaine and be unto my now Wife and she leaveing the same att her decease to be equally devided betwixt them or soe manie of them as shall be then liveing

Item I give to my well beloved Wife Mary all use proffitt and benefitt of this my Messuage or Tenement And all my Lands in Braborne aforesaid during her naturall life she makeing no wast thereof and I give more unto my said Wife all my moveable goods Chattells, Corne, Grayne, Malte, househoulde stuffe or other Lumber of myne after my decease to be unto my Sons Children as before bequeathed according as she shall leave such goods Chattles Cattle household stuffe or other Lumber att her decease

and her my said Wife Mary I make Sole Executrix of this my last Will and Testament and my Brother in Law Nicholas Hill of Selling I make Overseer or Super(visor) of this my Will

and hereunto I the said John Sladden have sett my hande and seale dated this fift [fifth] day of November in the yeare of our Lord Christ One thousand six hundred fifty and one
John Sladden his seale and marke

Sealed signed published and declared to be the last will and Testament of him the said John Sladden in the presence of us Witnesses Containing two sheetes of paper

This Will was proved at Westminster the twelveth day of July in the yeare of our Lord God One thousand six hundred fifty and fower before the Judges for probate of Wills and granting Administrations lawfully authorized by the oath of Mary Sladden the Relict and Sole Executrix named in the above written Will To whome administration of all and singular the goods chattells and debts of the said deceased was committed she being first legally sworne by vertue of Commission truly and faythfully to administer the same.

Notes:
John Sladden, Householder, was buried at St. Mary the Virgin, Brabourne on 5th June 1653.
John Sladden had married Mary Hilles on 12th October 1629 at St. Mary the Virgin, Selling, Kent.
