In the Name of God Amen I Richard Sladden of the Parish of Saint Mary Botham * London do make this my last Will and Testament in manner following
Imprimis I Will and direct that my Body be Buried at the Parish Church of Liminge [Lyminge] in the County of Kent and be carried in a Hearse with four Horses without any Coach, to be there decently interred at the discretion of my Executors hereinafter named

Item I give devise and bequeath unto my loving Wife Mary Sladden All that my Freehold Farm and Lands with the Appurtenances called East Brook in the Parish of Liminge aforesaid To hold to her or her Assigns for and during her Widowhood or the Term of her natural life
And in case my said Wife shall Marry again after my decease Then I give devise and bequeath the said Farm and premisses unto my Brother James Sladden To hold to him or his assigns for and during the Term of his natural Life he paying to my said loving Wife the sum of Fifty pounds within three Months next after the Day of such her Marriage

And my Mind and Will is that from and soon after the Death of the Survivor of them my said living Wife and my said Brother James Sladden the said Farm Lands and Premises shall be sold to the best purchaser that can be got for the same and that the Moneys arising by the Sake thereof shall be divided among my two Brethren the said Henry Sladden and Thomas Sladden and all such Children of my late Brother John Sladden as shall be living at the time of my decease equally share and share alike

All the rest and residue of my Estate whatsoever and wheresoever I give and bequeath unto my said loving Wife
And I Nominate and appoint my said loving Wife and my said Brother James Sladden joint Executors of this my Will
And revoking al former Wills I declare this to be my only last Will and Testament

In Witness whereof I have hereunto sett my hand and seal the first day of October One thousand Seven hundred and Forty eight

Signed Sealed Published and Declared by the said Richard Sladden as and for his last Will and Testament in the presence of us who subscribed our names as Witnesses thereto at his request and in his presence

This Will was proved at London the sixth day of March in the Year of our Lord One thousand Seven hundred and Forty eight before the Worshipfull Robert Chapman Doctor of Laws Surrogate of the Right Worshipfull John Bettesworth also Doctor of Laws Master Keeper or Commissary of the Prerogative Court of Canterbury lawfully constituted by the Oath of Mary Sladden Widow the Relict of the deceased and one of the Executors named in the said Will to whom Administration was granted of all and singular the Goods Chattels and Credits of the said deceased being first sworn duly to Administer. Power reserved of making the like Grant to James Sladden the other Executor named in the said Will when he shall apply for the same. Exd.

Notes:
Richard Sladden was buried at SS Mary & Ethelburga, Lyminge, Kent on 9th October 1748.
* St. Mary Bothaw (or Saint Mary Boatehaw by the Erber) was a parish church in the Walbrook ward of the City of London. It was destroyed in the Great Fire of London in 1666 and not rebuilt.
