Margaret Smothinge of Harrietsham, Widow, will dated 4 Jan 1589/90
My body to be buried in the church yard of Harrietsham

I give & bequeath unto my Son William Smothinge all my three tenements situat & lyinge in Harrietsham & knowen by the names of the house wherein I at the makeinge hereof dwell, the house wherein William Dabbes nowe dwelleth & the house wherein John Fetherston dwelleth called Tripscorner with the appurtenances of all the said 3 tenements & landes thereunto belonging �
(There follow all throughout this will several bequests of various household objects to Son William)

I bequeath unto my daughter Joane Fidge� 3 beds & all thereunto belonging
To Margaret Fidge one chest, 2 paires of fine sheetes, a white linen valance for a bed�
To Constance Fidge, one paire of fine sheetes & one of my best pillow beares
To Margery Willmote one sheete
To Elizabeth Willmote one sheete
To my daughter Alice Smith the flocke bed under the bed where I nowe ly, one wolle blanket, one flocke blanket, one boulster, 2 paire of sheetes & a coverlet

I will that my cosin Reynold Roger do take & receive of William Smith of Pittam those �s which he is to paie to me, viz 20s at christmas & 30s at ester next, for the use of Thomas Cockes
To Joane Smith 2 pewter dishes and to Elizabeth Smith a shipnet & a pewter dishe when they come to the age of 15 yeares or at theire dayof mariage & to be kept for them by my daughter Joane Fidge
I bequeath my best gowne & my best hat to Annes Baynard my cosin
I bequeath a bushell of wheat to be bakid & given to the poore of this parish

My will is that whereas my sonn in law John Fidge & I are bound to Hendry Smothinge for the paiement of �10 unto my sonne William Smothinge that my sonne William do hould himself satisfied for the paiement of the said �10 at the day of the paiement thereof otherwise my will is that all my bequeths & legaces --- ---- will made be void & returne & take place in my daughter Joane & her heires

My will is that Thomas Coocke whose gardner (guardian) I have beene, do let the Executor of my will chose him a new gardner

I give to Margaret Randell, John Fisher, Margaret Topley, Elyn Topley & Margaret Randle of Frinsbury, Margaret Bucke & Margaret Fidge my god children 12d a peece

The rest of my goodes unbequeathed I give to my Sonne William Smothinge dischargeinge all my legacies whom I ordaine my sole executor of this my last will & Thomas Shawe & Reynolde Roger my overseers
