In the Name of God Amen This twenty first day of July 1841
I James Spillett Gunner and Driver in Major Harding�s Company Royal Artillery being very weak of body but of perfect mind and memory and knowing that it is appointed unto all Men once to die do make and ordain this my last will and testament
First I give and recommend my soul into the hands of Almighty God who gave it and my body to the earth in Christian Burial nothing doubting that at the General Resurrection I shall receive the same again by the Almighty power of God
And touching such worldly goods whereof I am possessed I give and dispose of them in the following manner

Secondly I give and bequeath to my brother Jacob Spillett now or lately residing in the Parish of Stalisfield in the County of Kent the sum of two pounds sterling to be paid out of such sums as shall be due to me after my decease

Thirdly the remainder of all monies that may be due to me after payment of the above I give and bequeath to my beloved father Richard Spillett of the Parish of Charing in the County of Kent for his sole use and benefit

In Witness whereof I now subscribe my hand in the presence of the following witnesses _ James Spillett _
We do hereby attest that this is the signature of Gunner and Driver James Spillett Given in the Military hospital at Colombo this twenty first day of July one thousand eight hundred and forty one

On 8 May 1845 Administration with Will annexed of the goods chattels and credits of James Spillett late a Gunner and Driver in the Royal Artillery at the Island of Ceylon Bachelor deceased was granted to Richard Spillett the natural and lawful father ....
