In the Name of God Amen, the twenty Seaventh daie of May, in the yeare of our Lord God one thousand, Sixe hundred, Fiftie and five
I Thomas Stroude the Elder of the parish of Eleham in the County of Kent, Yeoman being sicke in bodie but of good and perfecte remembrance (Thanks be to God) doe make and ordaine this my testament and last Will in manner and former followinge
First and before all things I bequeath my Soule into the handes of Almighty God, beseeching him for his sonne Jesus Christ his sake to be mercifull unto mee and to forgive me all my sinnes and offences and to receive my soule into his mercy and peace for ever; And my body to be buryed in the Churchyard of Eleham aforesaid, or els where it shall please Almighty God to happen
Nowe as concerning my Worldly goods wherewith the Lord hath blessed mee, and made mee a Steward of; As followeth;

Item I give and bequeath unto Henry my sonne one bedstedle and bedd, with all manner of things thereunto belonginge ready furnished as it standeth in the Chamber wherein I doe now usually lye, of my now dwelling house;
Item I give and bequeath unto Henry my sonne one longe Table standinge in the Hall of my nowe dwellinge house

Item I give and bequeath unto John my sonne one Bedsteddle and bedd, with all manner of things thereunto belonginge ready furnished, as it standeth in the upper Chamber of my nowe dwelling house, wherein they doe usually lye
Item I give and bequeath unto the three children of John my sonne the full Summe of thirty shillings of lawfull money of England, to be paid unto my said three Grandchildren by John Stroude my sonne

Item I did lend unto Clement Roigers twenty pounds of lawfull English money without Speciallties, wherefore I doe give and bequeath the said twentie pounds of lawfull money of England unto my Grandchild Henry Roigers after the decease of Elizabeth my daughter

Item I will that John my sonne shall continue and dwell in my house and land at Exsted untill the Feast daie of St. Michaell the Arckangell next ensueinge after my decease
Item I will that John my sonne shall not stripp nor wast any Tymber trees or tymber like trees, or other trees standinge, groweing or beinge upon any part of parcel of the prmisses belonging unto my said house at Exsted

Item I give and bequeath all the residue of my moveable goods whatsoever which I have not here before given in this my last will and testament; All my Bill, Bonds, Annuities and Morgages; All my Plate, Lynnen and woollen, and household Stuffe; And all my moveable goods whatsoever which I have in the Parish of Eleham or elswhere in the County of Kent; equally to be devided betweene John my sonne and Henry my sonne and Elizabeth my daughter now the Wife of Clement Roigers

This is the last will and testament of me the said Thomas Stroude made and declared the day and yeare above written; Concerning my Messuages or Tenements, and two peeces of Land lyeing and beinge in the said parish of Eleham, at a place or streete comonly called Exsted

Item I devise and give all that Messuage or tenement with the Barne and other out houses with the Gardens and Orchard, with two peeces of Land thereunto belonging, wherein I nowe inhabite and dwell unto Henry Stroude my sonne, To have and to hold, and to be had and holden by the said Henry Stroude and his heire, or heires lawfully begotten for ever;

But if it happen that the said Henry my sonne shall depart this world, And doe not leave any heire or heires of his body lawfully begotten; That then I devise and give the said Messuage, tenement and two peeces of Land wherein I inhabite and dwell unto my Grandchild Henry Stroude, the sonne of John Stroude To have and to hold and to be had and holden by the said Henry Stroude my grandchild, and the heir or heires of his body lawfully begotten for ever;

Item I give and bequeath unto John my sonne Thirtye pounds of lawfull money of England, to be paid out of the said house and land at Exsted by Henry my sonne, at the end of twelve monthes next after my decease, to be paid unto John my sonne

Item I make and ordaine John my Sonne and Henry my Sonne Sole Executors of this my last will and testament, paying and dischargeing all the charges of my buryall, for the approveinge of this my testament and last will

Item I give and bequeath unto Henry my sonne the peece of land I purchased of Anthony Ginder, neere adjoyneinge unto broad Wood; unto the said Henry my sonne; To have and to holde and to be had and holden by the said Henry Stroude my sonne and his heires for ever

This Will was Proved at London Before the Judges for probate of will and granting Administracons the second daie of November in the yeare of our Lord God, one thousand, sixe hundred, Fiftie and Eight; By the oathes of John Stroude and Henry Stroude joynt Executors named in the said will, to whome Administracon of all and Singular the goods, Chattells and debts of the said Thomas Stroude the Elder deceased was Comitted and granted, They beinge first Sworne by Commiscon well and truely to Administer the same. Exd.

Note: Parish Register of Elham: Thomas Stroud was buryed August the 18th 1658.
