This is the Last Will and Testament of me Thomas Stroud of Longport near Canterbury in the County of Kent, Gentleman Published and declared the Nineteenth day of June One thousand Eight hundred and Fifteen
First and Principally I recommend my Soul to Almighty God & my Body I commit to the Earth to be decently buried in the Churchyard of Saint Paul in Canterbury at the sole discretion of my Executors hereinafter named And I desire to have a head and Foot Stone
And as for all and as for all such Worldly Estate which it hath pleased Almighty God to bestow upon me I dispose thereof as follows (that is to say)

I give, devise and bequeath unto my esteemed Friends William James Gifford of Longport aforesaid, Victualler and Edward Pilcher of Canterbury aforesaid, Victualler, all the Dividends, Interest and Proceed that may arise and accrue by or from all and every part of my property of every description whatsoever for and during and unto the full end and term of one whole Year to be computed from the day next after any Dividends & all Money out at Interest belonging to me shall each of them first become due and Payable after my decease to and for their own proper use and benefit

and from and immediately after the expiration thereof respectively
I give and bequeath unto my half-Brother William Redwood of Upstreet in Chistlet, Kent, Husbandman the Sum of Seven hundred pounds four per Centum Bank Annuities now standing in my Name there in the Books kept for that purpose to and for his own proper use and benefit
And in case the said William Redwood shall happen to depart this life without disposing of the same by Will or otherwise then I do hereby order and direct that the same shall go to and be equally divided between all his Children to and for their own use and benefit

I give and bequeath unto my two Nieces Mary Minter and Catherine Knight the Sum of Ten pounds apiece to be paid to them by (my) Executors at the same time that the said William Redwood shall become possessed under this my Will to the said Sum of Seven hundred pounds
I give and bequeath unto my Cousin Mary Johnson of Chartham in Kent, Widow the Sum of Five pounds to be paid to her by my said Executors at the time foresaid

I give, devise & bequeath unto my Four Nephews namely Thomas Johnson and James Johnson (Sons of my half-Brother William Johnson) and Thomas Johnson and John Johnson (Sons of my late half-Brother John Johnson, deceased) all such Principal Sum of Money as may be due and owing to me under and by virtue of a certain Indenture of Mortgage made and granted to me by Minter deceased of a certain Estate called Santon in Preston-next-Sandwich, Kent, equally to be divided between them, share & share alike at the same time that the said William Redwood shall become possessed under this my Will of the said Sum of Seven hundred pounds
but subject nevertheless to and charged & chargeable with the Payment of the weekly Sum of two Shillings for & during the natural life of my Nephew Henry Johnson, Brother of the said Thomas and James Johnson to commence on and from the day my said four Nephews shall become possessed of such Principal Sum as aforesaid under this my Will which I do hereby give and bequeath unto him for and during his natural life
And I do hereby subject and charge the said Principal Mortgage Sum and the Interest then accruing with the Payment of the said weekly Sum of Two Shillings to him accordingly

I give and bequeath unto Andrew Kingsford of Northbourn near Deal in Kent Labourer Ten pounds
I give and bequeath unto Nicholas Cook of Buckwell Farm near Wye in Kent, Yeoman Twenty pounds
I give and bequeath unto Edward Culver of Longport aforesaid, Labourer where I now lodge Ten pounds
but in Case I shall not lodge with him at my decease then I give and bequeath unto him only Five pounds
And in that Case I give and bequeath unto the Person with whom I may happen to Lodge at the time of my decease Five pounds
All which said last mentioned Legacies shall be paid by my said Executors at the same time that the said William Redwood shall become possessed under this my Will to the said Sum of Seven hundred pounds

I give, devise and bequeath all the rest, residue and remainder of my Property whatsoever and wheresoever and of what nature soever the same may be at the time of my decease (subject to the bequests and Legacies hereinbefore and hereinafter by me given, devised & bequeathed) and also to all my just debts and every expence attending my Funeral and the Expenses of Writing, Proving and executing this my Will & all other Expences incident thereto unto my said half Brother the said William Redwood his Executors, Adm[inistrat]ors and assigns to be paid, assigned and transferred to him or them at the same time as he shall become possessed under this my Will to the said Sum of Seven hundred pounds

And I do hereby Nominate and Appoint my said esteemed Friends the said William James Gifford and Edward Pilcher joint Executors of this my last Will and Testament
And I do hereby further give and bequeath to each of them my said Executors Ten Pounds free of King’s Duty and Mourning for their care and trouble in and about the Execution of this my Will and over and above all Expences and loss of time as they may be at in or about the same

And I do particularly request the said William James Gifford to do all such Business relating to this my Will so far as he lawfully can or may And I direct that neither of my said Executors shall be answerable for any acts or deeds other than what shall come to and under this or their or either of their own hands and each of them shall be answerable for all such acts and deeds as shall come to and under their respective hands & shall do and make good the same
And I do hereby revoke all former Wills and declare this and this only to be my last Will and Testament

In Witness whereof I the said Thomas Stroud have to this my last Will and Testament contained in two Sheets of Paper to each Sheet thereof set my hand and Seal the day and year first above written

I Thomas Stroud of Longport ear Canterbury in the County of Kent, Gentleman, do publish and declare this to be a Codicil to be annexed to my last Will and Testament which bears date the Nineteenth day of June now last past and to be taken as part thereof

I give and bequeath unto my two Nieces Mary Minter & Catherine Knight the Sum of Twenty pounds apiece in lieu and instead of the Sum of Ten pounds apiece in and by my said Will given to them
I give and bequeath unto my Cousin Mary Johnson of Chartham in Kent Widow The Sum of Ten pounds in lieu and in stead of the Sum of Five Pounds in and by my said Will given to her
I give & bequeath to Andrew Kingsford of Northbourne near Deal in Kent, Labourer, the Sum of Twenty pounds in lieu and in stead of the Sum of Ten pounds in and by my said Will given to him
I give and bequeath unto Moses Epps of Chilham in Kent, Labourer the Sum of Five Pounds

I give devise and bequeath unto my two Executors named and appointed in and by my said Will equally to be divided between them all the Dividends, Interest and Proceeds that may arise and accrue by or from all and every part of my property of every description whatsoever for and during and until the full end & term of Six Calendar Months to be computed from the day next after any dividends and all Money out at Interest and other things belonging to me shall each of them first become due & payable after my decease and in the intermediate time And also a compensation equal in Value to the Gift, devise and Bequest to them by me made in and by my said Will

And I do hereby order & direct that all Sum and Sums of Money and other things in and by my said Will & in and by this Codicil given, devised and bequeathed shall be all paid by my said Executors so soon after the expiration of Six Calendar Months after my decease as can or may conveniently be done
And I do hereby ratify and confirm my said last Will and Testament in all other respects

In Witness whereof I the said Thomas Stroud have to this my Codicil written on the back of the last Sheet of my said Will set my hand and Seal this Eighth day of September One thousand Eight hundred and fifteen

Proved at London with a Codicil 19th October 1815 before the Worshipful Samuel Pearse Parson, Doctor of Laws and Surrogate by the Oath of William James Gifford one of the Executors to whom adm[inistrati]on was granted, he having been first sworn duly to adm'r.
Power reserved to Edward Pilcher the other Executor
Proved at London with a Codicil 24th January 1817 before the Judge by the Oath of Edward Pilcher the other Executor, to whom adm'on. was granted, he having been first sworn by Commission duly to adm'r.
