Notes
Three children are named in the will: Roger, Thomas and Margaret; the granting of land to son
Roger suggests he was the elder son.
Rogers wife Johane outlived her husband, as did his brothers Giles and William. However I
was unable to spot her name in the grant of probate; instead the three witnesses named in the
will are noted here.
Roger lived in Folkestone and presumably his farm was there; he requested he be buried in the churchyard.
Roger SUTTON appointed John LUSSYNGTON as his overseer; John LUSSINGTON of Hawkine Standen left a will dated 1549
There is also a record in the Act Book for John LUSSHYNTON of Hawkinge dating from 1544.
William SUTTON: witness
Presumably a brother to Roger and Giles SUTTON. A person of this name, of Hawkinge, wrote
his will in 1570, probate granted in 1571.
