Will of Roger Sutton

of Hawkinge, Kent

Item I give to Agnes Sutton my mother one hundred markes to be payd unto her by my executor in mann[er] and forme followeinge, that ys to saye, at fower sev[er] all payements by equall and even por[t]ions, whereof the firste payement beinge sixteene pounds and a marke to be payd w[it]hin ane (one?) quarter of a yeare after my decease, and to paye at the second payement other sixtene pounds and a marke w[i]thin one whole yeare after, and soe at the end of ev[er]ye whole year xvili xiijs iiijd till the sayd whole sum[m]e of one hundred markes be fullye satisfied and payd to the sayd Agnes Sutton,

provided allwayes that yf yt shall happen the sayd Agnes Sutton to dye and departe this lyffe before the sayd (terme?) of yeares be expired, wherein the sayd hundred markes shall remayne and be to the sayd Agnes Sutton my mother should be payd as aforesaid, then I will that the sayd hundred markes shall remayne and be to the sayd Agnes Sutton my mother, and to her assignes.

Item I give to my eldest sister Christian Brice five shillings to be payd w[i]thin one whole yeare after my decease
Item I give to the fyve Children of my sister Christian Brice thirtye shillinges to be devyded amongest them by equall & even port[i]ons, and to be payd w[i]thin (twoe?) yeares after my decease

Item I give to ev[er]ye one of my sister Margarett Dunkyn her Children one lambe apiece, that ys to saye three lambes to her three Children
Item I give will that my broth[er] George Sutton my Executor shall bringe upp and maynteyne w[i]ith all things needfull and necessarye, two of my sayd sister Margaret Dunkin her children vizt Gregorye Dunkyn and Margaret Robert Dunkin at the onlye propper costs and Chardges of the sayd George Sutton my Executor

Item I give to my sister Agnes Sutton six pounds and a marke to be payd unto her w[i]thin one yeare after my decease

The rest of my goods unbequeathed and not given I give to George Sutton my brother whome I make sole executor of this my laste will and testament, payeinge my debts and dischardginge my legacyes and funeral

Notes
The wording of the will of Roger, the son of Robert, indicates he was probably unmarried and living in the family home at his death. He pre-deceased his mother Agnes, whom he made financial bequests to, and his brother George inherited �all my lands and tenements �w[i]thin � Hawkinge, Alkham and Folkston or ellswhere w[i]thin the Countye of Kent�. The other bequests were all financial.
He appointed Christopher SUTTON as one of two supervisors; it seems likely to be the same CS as was overseer of his father Robert�s will made 14 years previously. The second supervisor, William SUTTON, may be the individual referred to in the will of Roger�s mother Agnes.
