Notes
Margarets will provides a useful update on the next generation of the family around 14 years after her husband Thomas died.
Like him Margaret asked to be buried in Hawkinge churchyard, presumably in the same grave.
By 1625 her daughter Mildred had another four children, names Thomas, Christener, William and Jhone: I have not found these baptisms and the surname is
not noted it is possible these children are from a second marriage as there is a separate bequest to her first son Henry PHILPOT later.
The next bequest is difficult to make out and is to a person formerly SUTTON who was now married to a William, surname unclear but possibly ending ale or
ole. This might be another daughter whose baptism we do not have, although the relationship daughter is not stated and she was not referred to in the will
of Thomas in 1611.
There follows a bequest to John son of William SUTTON, presumably a grandson (there is a baptism of John, son of William SUTTON at Hawkinge on 29
Sep 1617 that fits). This appears to have covered most of the grown grandchildren and she continues with bequests to her children.
First a bequest to Tamsen SUTTON, her daughter, confirming that she was wife to Robert SLADEN; then a bequest to her daughter Elizabeth, now wife of
Davye TUNBRIDGE the TYLER index includes their marriage at Alkham on 2 Oct 1619.
Margaret then made bequests to her sons John and William again the sequence suggests John was the elder of the two.
The residue of her estate went to son Thomas who, as for his father, was the sole executor.
There is no reference to her son Stephen SUTTON presumably he either had died by 1625 or had fallen further out of favour. It is interesting that Thomas
Sutton, born 1590, named his first son Stephen in 1618 had his brother died around this time? Margaret does not mention her grandchildren by her son
Thomas, but they were still young when she prepared her will, aged just 4 and 2; Thomass first child Stephen died soon after birth.
