This book is a useful reference to parish officers, what they did and the records they kept. Part I describes ecclesiastical records, e.g. registers, churchwarden accounts, charity accounts, tithe records and church court records. Part II describes civil records also kept by the parish, e.g. Vestry minutes, Petty Constables accounts, poor law records, highway maintenance, enclosure and many others. Examples from documents are given throughout the book and the following list is an index to persons from the County of Kent who are mentioned in these examples.
