Will of Hester Titterton

of Kidbrooke, Kent

In the Name of God Amen this is the last Will and Testament of me Hester Titterton of Kidbrooke in the County of Kent Widow made published and declared by me this thirtieth Day of April one thousand seven hundred and sixty two

First I give and devise to my Neice Hester Walker (Wife of Richard Walker of Kidbrooke aforesaid Farmer) All that my Messuage or Tenement with the Land and Appurtenances thereto belonging situate at Lee in the County of Kent now in the Occupation of Ann Smith To Hold the same to the said Hester Walker her Heirs and Assigns for ever

but subject to and chargeable with the Payment of the following Legacies within one Year after my Decease (that is to say)
to my Neice Elizabeth Freake (Wife of George Freake) the Sum of one Hundred Pounds
and to John Grant son of the late Mr John Grant of Stratford deceased the Sum of fifty Pounds
which said Legacys of one hundred pounds and of fifty pounds I direct shall be paid out of my real Estate only
And I do hereby wholly exonerate and discharge my Executor and my Personal Estate from the same and from any Demand on Account thereof

And as to my Personal Estate I dispose thereof as follows
I give to my said Niece Hester Walker over and above what I have already given her All my Household Furniture
I give to my Sister Ann Beardsley of Easington in Derbyshire two Hundred Pounds
and to such of her Children as shall be living at my Death I give one hundred pounds to be equally divided amongst them
And in Case the said Ann Beardsley shall happen to dye before me then I give the said two hundred Pounds (before given to her) equally amongst such of her Children as shall be living at my Death to be divided besides the hundred Pounds so given them as aforesaid

I give to such of the Children of the late Ann Greatrix of Michelow in Derbyshire deceased as shall be living at my Death the Sum of forty Pounds to be equally divided between them
I give to Thomas Titterton of Ashborn in Derbyshire and to such of his Brothers and Sisters as shall be living at my Decease the Sum of forty Pounds to be equally divided between him and them accordingly

I give to my Niece Sarah Hudson the Sum of ten Pounds
I also give to my Brother in Law John Titterton ten Pounds
I also give to Thomas Cooper of Bermondsey in the County of Surry ten Pounds
I give to Catherine Saunders wife of John Saunders of Broadley in Kent five Pounds
And I also give to Elizabeth Broad of Greenwich five Pounds

And in case my said Personal Estate shall not be sufficient to pay and satisfy all my said Legacies payable thereout then I order that each of the said Legatees do abate in Proportion to their respective Legacies payable out of my Personal Estate

My Set of Silver Castors together with all the Rest Residue and Remainder of my Estate real and Personal whatsoever I hereby give devise and bequeath unto Joshua Baker of the General Post Office London Gentleman his Heirs Executors Administrators and Assigns for ever

And I appoint the said Joshua Baker sole Executor of this my last Will and Testament hereby revoking and disannulling all Will or Testamentary Writings by me at any time heretofore made
but my Will and Desire is to be buried in the same manner and in the same Place with my late deceased Husband

In Witness whereof I have hereunto set my Hand and Seal the Day and Year first above written Hester Titterton

I give to be paid out of my Personal Estate the following Legacies that is to say
to William Titterton the elder of Hascoe in Derbyshire the Sum of ten Pounds
and I give to his present Wife the sum of twenty Pounds to be paid into her own Hands for her own sole and separate use and for which her own Receipt shall be a sufficient Discharge only and her said husband shall have no power over the same
I also give to William Titterton their son the sum of twenty Pounds
And I give to Richard Titterton living with Mr Walker of Kidbrooke the sum of twenty Pounds

Witness my Hand the twelfth day of May 1762

Proved at London with a Codicil 22 June 1762
