In the name of God : Amen I Mary Tookey of the Towne and port of New Romney in the Countie of Kent Spinster beinge sicke in bodye but of good and perfect memorie (thankes be given to Almightie God) doe this eight and twentieth day of September one thousand sixe hundred fiftye and sixe make and ordaine this my last will and Testament in manner and forme followinge
Inprimis I resigne my Soule into the handes of God my Creator and giver of it, hopeinge through the meritts of Jesus Christ my Saviour to obtaine the remission of my Sinnes and to have everlastinge Life And my bodie I leave to be interred at the discretion of my Executor hereafter named

And I doe make and ordaine my loveinge Sister Joane Tookey Sole Executrix of this my Last will & testam[en]t unto whome I give and bequeath all my Landes wheresoever

Item I give and bequeath unto Katherine Bate one hundred and fifty pounds To be paid unto her within twoe yeares after my decease
And unto Anne Bate both my Cozen Germans likewise one hundred and fiftye pounds To be paid likewise unto her by my Executrix within twoe yeares after my decease

Item I give unto John Tookey sonne of Bartholomew Tookey the sume of Fiftye poundes To be paid unto him when he shall attaine unto the age of one and twenty yeares and From foureteene yeares of age to pay three poundes a yeare for the interest of it halfe yearelie To be paid untill it shall become due towards his education

Item I give unto my Cozen Thomas Bate the sume of Twenty pounds
To my Cozen Edward Master Twentie poundes
And to my Cozen Bartholomew Tookey twenty poundes
And to my Cozen Robert Wilcocks twenty poundes
To be paid unto them severally within twoe yeares after my decease

Item I give unto my Aunt Tookey the sume of Five poundes to be paid unto her within three moneths after my decease
Item I give unto my Cozen Joane Carter the wife of George Carter One Twentie shillinge peece of gold
And to my Cozen Jane Tookey one twentie shillinge peece of gold
And to Mrs. Susan Hawkins one twentie shillinge peece of gold
Item I give unto Thomas Nokes and Marie Warner Twentie shillinges a peece
And to William Wilmott and Tamsin Philpott Tenne shillinges a peece

The rest of my goodes and Chattells these my legacies and funerall expences beinge first discharged, I give and bequeath unto my above named Executrix

In wittnes whereof I have hereunto sett my hand and seale the day and yeare above written

Sealed and delivered after the readinge of it in the presence of
Robert Wilcocke; Edward Master; Dorothy Nockes her marke; Anne Millen her marke

This will was proved at London the one and thirtieth day of October in the yeare of our Lord God one thousand sixe hundred fiftye sixe before the Judges for probate of wills and granntinge administracons [granting administrations] Lawfullie authorized by the oathe of Joane Tookey the Sister and Sole Executrix named in the Last will and Testament of the said deceased To whome administration was comitted &c. She beinge by vertue of a Comission first legally Sworne truelie and faithfullie to administer.

Note: Mary Tookye was baptised 18 Jan 1634/35, d. of Thomas & Sybill, at All Saints, Lydd, Kent. Sister Joane 27 May 1632.
