In the name of god amen I Thomas Walsingham of Chislehurst in the county of Kent Knight calling to my remembrance how certain mortality is to all men and how uncertain the time thereof is, And having a careful respect to the good education of my children and to provide conveniently for their advancement where unto both the law of god and nature bindeth me, and moved thereby (by gods sufferance) having at this time perfect memory (thanks be to god) to make and dispose this my last will and testament in manner and form following
First I committ my wretched and sinful soul to the merciful hands of almighty god trusting firmly to be joined to his glorious presence by the only merits of Christs death and shedding of his most precious blood
And my body to be buried in the church of Chislehurst in such convenient sort as shall be thought good by my executors And touching the disposal and order of all my goods and chattels lands tenements and hereditaments my last will is as follows

First I will and bequeath unto my executors all that my Manor of Scadbury with the appurtenances in the said county of Kent and all and singular my messuages lands tenements and underwoods there upon growing, rents, services and hereditaments in Chislehurst, Pauliscray otherwise called Paulinscray, Footescray, St Mary Cray, Northcray, Eltham, Mottingham, Lee, Orpington, Bromley and Bexley (except all and singular such lands tenants and hereditaments as I have in form or lease and except also all those lands and tenements which I purchased of my cousin Sir Francis Walsingham knight and of Johnson and others lying in Chislehurst) And except also one piece of wood ground in Chislehurst and Bromley called Hawkeshaw and one piece of woodland in Chislehurst called Chalklands and two pieces of wood ground in Chislehurst and Bromley called Birchettes and Scerts, And except also and singular the great woods and timber trees and fayre young fellows above 21 years growth, standing or growing upon the premises devised to my said executors, To have and to hold my said Manor of Scadbury and all other my messuage lands, tenements, underwoods, rents, services and hereditaments with their appurtenances in Chislehurst Powlescray otherwise Paulinscray, St Mary Cray, Footescray, Northcray, Orpington, Bromley, Eltham, Mottingham, Lee and Bexley (except before expressed) unto my said executors for the term of 21 years next after my decease to the end purpose and intent that they shall employ the rents and profits and revenues thereof (the great woods timber trees and fair young fellows above 21 years growing excepted) towards the payment and satisfaction of all my debts legacies and duties and towards the performance and accomplishment of this my last will and testament

Also I will that my said executors to the intent aforesaid of performing of this my will shall have Cray wood, the little meadow, two parcells called Greys and other two springs at Cray wood which I purchased of my cousin Sir Francis Walsingham Knight for term of 21 years next after my decease

Nevertheless my will is that they shall suffer my son Edmund and the heirs male of his body, and if he die without heirs male of his body, then my son Thomas Walsingham and to heirs male of his body, during the said term of 21 years for the yearly rent of £12 to have the same if he and they will

Also I will that my executors to the intent aforesaid shall take the profits rents and revenues of all such lands, tenements, woods, hedgerows, trees and hereditaments as I have or hold by virtue of any lease or wherein I have any term for years by any lease in Chislehurst, Paulscray otherwise called Paulincray, Footescray, St Mary Cray or Bromley in the said county of Kent during all the term that such leases shall have continuance

Also I will and bequeath to the said Thomas Walsingham my son one annuity or annual rent of £24 to be issuing and going out of all that my manor and parsonage of Croydon in the county of Surrey, To have and yearly p'ceive the said annuity or annual rent of £24 to the said Thomas Walsingham my son and his assigns for and during the term of 7 years next after my decease, to be paid at the feast of the annunciation of Saint Mary the Virgin and Saint Michael the Archangel by even portions, the first payment thereof to begin at that feast of the feasts aforesaid and that shall first happen after my decease
And after the full end and time of the said 7 years I will that the said Thomas Walsingham my son shall have one annuity or annual rent of £50 to be issuing and going out of the demesnes of the Manor of Burwell in the county of Cambridge and out of the demesne lands of the Manor of Rypley and out of the certain lands and hereditaments called or known by the name of Apletons als Apletons Lands in the county of Kent, Which demesne lands of the manors of Burwell and Rypley and Apletons Lands I have for term of years by Letters Patents from our sovereign Lady Queen majastie that now is, To have and yearly p'ceive the said annuity or annual rent of £50 to the said Thomas Walsingham my son and his assigns during the term of 50 years next after the end of the said term of 7 years (if the said Thomas Walsingham my son do so long live), at the feast of the annunciation of St Mary the Virgin and of St Michael the Archangel by even portions yearly to be paid, the first payment thereof to begin at that first of the feasts aforesaid which shall first happen after the end of the said term of 7 years
And if it happen the said annuity or yearly rent of £24 during the said 7 years or the said annuity or annual rent of £50 during the said 50 years after the end of the said 7 years which said Thomas Walsingham my son, if so long lived, to be behind unpaid that then it shall be lawful for the said Thomas Walsingham my son and his assigns during the term of 7 years unto the said Manor and parsonage of Croydon to enter and distain for the said annuity or yearly rent of £40 (after the end of the said 7 years that it shall be lawful for the said Thomas Walsingham my son and his assigns unto the said demesne lands of the said Manor of Burwell and Rypley and unto the said lands called Apletons Lands and unto every parcel thereof to enter and distrain and for the said annuity or annual rent of £50 during the said term if 50 years if the said Thomas Walsingham my son so long live

Also I give to Dame Dorothy my well beloved wife one annuity or yearly rent of £40 of lawful money of England for term of her life to be paid and issuing out of the said demesne of the said Manor of Burwell and Rypley and out of the said lands and hereditaments called or known by the name of Apleton alias Apleton Lands at the feast of the annunciation of Saint Mary the Virgin and Saint Michael the Archangel by even portions the first payment thereof to begin at the feast aforesaid and that shall first happen after the beginning of my lease which I have by the said L'res (Letters) Patents of the said demesne lands of the said Manor of Burwell and Rypley and Apleton Lands or of any of them
And for default of payment thereof or of any part thereof I will that it shall be lawful for the said Dame Dorothy my wife to distrain from time to time in all the said demesne lands of the said manor of Burwell and Rypley and Apleton Lands and in every of them

Also I will that my executors shall have and receive towards the payment of my debts and the performance of this my last will and testament all the residue of the issues and profits of all the said demesne lands of the said Manor of Burwell and Rypley and of the said lands and hereditaments called or known by the name of Apletons als Apletons Lands and of all other lands, tenements, commodities, hereditaments whatsoever demesne to me the said Thomas Walsingham by the said l'rs patents
And the residue of the issues and profits of the said manor and parsonage of Croydon or to either of them over and above the said 2 several annuities or annual rent bequeathed by me to the said Dame Dorothy my wife and Thomas Walsingham my son which residue of the said manor issues profits of the said demesne lands of he said manor lands tenements and hereditaments and other commodities devised to me the said Thomas Walsingham by the said L'res patent And of the said manor and parsonage of Croydon and of the land and late commodities and hereditaments thereto belonging I will my executors shall have and receive towards the payment of my debts and the performance of my last will and testament for so long time as it shall be needful for them to have and receive the said issues an profits to that use

And if Edmund Walsingham my son do marry I will that my executor shall have authority by this my last will to grant unto the wife of the said Edmund Walsingham my son for her jointure 100 markes by the year of the revenue and profits appointed to their receipt to begin after the death of the said Edmund

And I will that my said executor during all the time that they shall so receive the said profits and commodities shall well and truly pay the yearly rent reserved by the said L'rs patents And also shall perform all other covenants and gratuities which by me ought to be due contained in the said L'res patents in such manner and form as they be appointed to be paid and done by the said L'res Patents And which my said executors shall have received the said residue of the profits of the said demesne lands of the said Manor of Burwell and Ryply and of all lands tenements and hereditaments and other commodities demised to me by the said L'res patents and of other the profits towards the payment of my debts and the performance of this my will so long as it shall be needful for them to receive the said profits and commodities to that use
Then I will the Edmund Walsingham my son and the heirs males of his body lawfully begotten shall receive all the issues and profits of all the said demesne lands of the said Manor of Burwell and Rypley and all other lands tenements and hereditaments and of all other commodities and things whatsoever demised to me by the said L'res patents

And if it happen the said Edmund Walsingham my son do die without issue male of his body lawfully begotten then I will that the said Thomas Walsingham my son and the heirs male of his body lawfully begotten shall receive all the issues and profits of all the said demesne lands of the said manor of Burwell and Rypley and all other lands tenements and hereditaments and of all other commodities and things whatsoever demised to me by the said L'res patents
And if the said Thomas Walsingham my son die without issue male of his body lawfully begotten then I will that the issue of the body of the said Edmund Walsingham my son shall receive all the issues and profits of all the said demesne lands of the said manor of Burwell and Ryply and of all the other lands tenements hereditaments commodities and other these whatsoever demised to me by the said L'res patents
And if the said Edmund Walsingham my son die without issue male of his body lawfully begotten then I will that the issue of the body of the said Thomas Walsingham my son shall receive all the issues and profits of all the said demesne lands of the said manor of Burwell and Ryply and of all the other lands tenements hereditaments commodities and other these whatsoever demised to me by the said L'res patents
And if the said Thomas Walsingham my son die without issue male of his body lawfully begotten then I will and bequeath to the right heirs of the said Edmund my son all the terms for years that then shall be to come of and in the said demesne lands of the manor of Burwell and Ryply and of all the other lands tenements hereditaments commodities and other these whatsoever demised to me by the said L'res patents

And when my said executor shall have received the issue and profits of my said manor and parsonage of Croydon and of other lands tenements commodities and hereditaments to the said manor and parsonage or to either of the belonging towards the payment of my debts and the performance of this my will so long as it shall be needful for them to receive the said issue and profits to that use
Then I will and bequeath all the said manor and parsonage of Croydon and all the lands, tenements, tythes, profits, commodities and hereditaments whatsoever with the appurtenances to the said manor and parsonage or either of them in any wise belonging or reputed as parcel of the same and the reversion thereof to the said Thomas Walsingham my son and to the issue male of his body lawfully begotten

And for default of such issue I will and bequeath all the said manor and parsonage of Croydon and all the lands, tenements, tythes, profits, commodities and hereditaments whatsoever with the appurtenances to the said manor and parsonage or either of them in any wise belonging or reputed as parcel of the same and the reversion thereof to the heirs of the body of the said Edmund Walsingham my son lawfully begotten
And for default of such issue I will and bequeath all the said manor and parsonage of Croydon and all the lands, tenements, tythes, profits, commodities and hereditaments whatsoever with the appurtenances to the said manor and parsonage or either of them in any wise belonging or replicant as parcel of the same and the reversion thereof to the heirs of the body of the said Thomas Walsingham my son lawfully begotten
And for default of such issue I will and bequeath all the said manor and parsonage of Croydon and all the lands, tenements, tythes, profits, commodities and hereditaments whatsoever with the appurtenances to the said manor and parsonage or either of them in any wise belonging or replicant as parcel of the same and the reversion thereof to the right heirs of the said Edmund Walsingham my son

And whereas I the said Thomas Walsingham knight by indenture bearing the date the 20th day of May in the 25th year of the reign of the Queen Majestie that now is, did covenant and grant with Edward Neville, Walter Covert and Sampson Lennard upon good consideration contained in the said deed to stand seized of a piece or parcel of woodland called Hawkeshawe in Chislehurst, Orpington and Bromley and of or or in one other part of woodland in Chislehurst aforesaid called Chalkland containing by estimation 33 acres and of and in two pieces of woodland in Chislehurst and Bromley aforesaid called Byrchettes and Sterts to the use of me the said Sir Thomas Walsingham and Dame Dorothy my wife during our lives and the longer liver of us, The remainder thereof to Mary Walsingham late the wife of Guldeford Walsingham during her life and after her decease to Edmund Walsingham son of me the said Thomas and of the heirs male of his body lawfully begotten
And default of such issue to Thomas Walsingham one other of the sons of me the said Thomas Walsingham and the heirs male of his body lawfully begotten
And for default of such issue and such further uses and intents as I the said Sir Thomas Walsingham should by my last will and testament in writing mention and declare; Now for declaration thereof I the said Sir Thomas Walsingham do express declare limit and bequeath the revertion and revertions, remainder and remainders of the said lands mentioned (as aforesaid) in the same deed, unto the said Edmund Walsingham my son and to the heirs of his body lawfully begotten and for default of such heirs the remainder thereof to the right heirs of the said Edmund Walsingham

I give and bequeath to Frances Walsingham my daughter for and towards her preferment in marriage the sum of 1000 markes to be delivered and paid unto her by my overseer at the day of her marriage
Also I give and bequeath to Mary Walsingham my daughter for and towards her preferment in marriage the sum of 1000 markes to be delivered and paid unto her by my overseer at the day of her marriage
And if either of my said daughters Frances and Mary do die before she be married then I will that the other of my said daughters Frances and Mary which shall survive and be then living shall have the said legacy of 1000 markes of her that so shall die before she be married to be paid to her so surviving at such time as her own legacy of 1000 markes is appointed to be paid
Provided always that if my said two daughters Frances and Mary or either of them do marry without the consent of my said wife and of my other overseers that then my said daughter or daughters which so shall marry without consent of my said wife and overseer shall lose the benefit of this my will and testament

Also I give and bequeath to Dorothy Walsingham daughter of Guldeford Walsingham my son deceased for and towards her preferment in marriage the sum of 1000 markes, if it will rise of the issues and profits of the lands and tenements appointed to be received by my executor, to be delivered and paid to her at her age of 21 years
Also I give and bequeath to Elizabeth Walsingham daughter of Guldeford Walsingham my son deceased for and towards her preferment in marriage the sum of 1000 markes, if it will rise of the issues and profits of the lands and tenements appointed to be received by my executors, to be delivered and paid to her at her age of 21 years
And if either of the said Dorothy or Elizabeth daughters of the said Guldeford do die before she come to her age of 21 years, then I will the portion of the survivor of them shall be £1000 to be paid at her age of 21 years (if it will rise of the issues and profits aforesaid)

provided always and my full will and meaning yet that of the said Dorothy and Elizabeth daughters of the said Guldeford or either of them or their heirs or assigns of them or either of them do entreat come or enter into any my lands tenements or hereditaments which shall at any time hereafter be or are limited to be in the hands or possession of my said son Edmund or of the issue of his body lawfully begotten or limited to be in the hands or possession of Thomas Walsingham my son or of the heirs of his body lawfully begotten or limited to be in the hands or possession of Dame Dorothy my wife or which are limited give or granted to the said Edmund Walsingham and Thomas Walsingham my son or to either of them or to the males of their bodies or of the body of either of them lawfully begotten by this my last will and testament or otherwise by deeds or which be conveyed for the jointure of my wife or for the jointure of my daughter Walsingham widow mother of the said Dorothy and Elizabeth contrary to the tenure of my deed writing or conveyance whatsoever heretofore made by me made That then the said Dorothy and Elizabeth and either of them or their heirs and assigns of them or each of them which so shall come visit and enter into any of the said lands tenements or hereditaments shall lose all benefit and advantage which they or either of them or either of their executors administrators or assigns have or may have or cause by reason of this my last will and testament (anything in this my said last will and testament contained to the contrary notwithstanding)

Also I give and bequeath to the said Edmond Walsingham my son my flagon, chain of gold and my ring of seal of arms
Also I give unto the said Edmund Walsingham my son all my linen and household stuff at Scadbury
Also I give and bequeath to Dame Dorothy my wife all my plate and all ladies apparel, jewels, rings, chains, bracelets and all other things of gold which she hath of mine in her custody (my said chain of gold and seal of arms before bequeathed to the said Edmund my son excepted)

Also I give and bequeath to the said Dame Dorothy my wife all my right interest and term of years yet to come in my house at London and all the linen, napery, household stuff and implements in my said house in London and in my house at Footescray in the county of Kent
Also I give to every of my daughters Francis and Mary 20 markes by the year to find then with all till they be married, the same portions of 20 markes to be paid by even portions half yearly by my executors out of the revenues of the premises devised to my said executors

Amd my plan intent and meaning is that my executors shall let out all and singular the premises to them devised to the best and most profit and commodities they can and that they shall not occupy any part or parcel thereof in their own hands, but to employ the rents and revenues thereof to the best commodities they can therewith to accomplish this my will

Also I will that my executors during their interest in the premises, and afterwards the said Edmund my son and the heirs male of his body and afterwards the said Thomas Walsingham my son and the heirs males of his body lawfully begotten, and the right heirs of the said Edmund forever shall yearly at mid lent distribute to 40 poor householders 12d apiece; That is to say, to 20 poor householders in Chislehurst, to 5 in Footescray, to 5 in Paulinscray, to 7 in St Mary Cray,and to 3 in Orpington
And my will is that my executors shall and may take reasonable and sufficient timber in the premises to them devised for the necessary reparations of the house and buildings to them devised by this my will and for necessary hedge boot

and the executors of this my last will and testament I do make and ordain my trusted and well beloved friend Thomas Wootton esquire and my son Edmund Walsingham
and if the said Thomas Wootton do die then I will that my brother Henry Guldeford esquire shall suceed in his place and be my executor with the said Edmund Walsingham my son
And if the said Edmund Walsingham my son do die then I will that the said Thomas Walsingham my son shall suceed in the place of the said Edmond and be my executor with the said Thomas Wootton (if he be living) or with the said Henry Guldeford if the said Thomas Wootton be dead

And I will that the said Thomas Walsingham my son shall enter into bond of £2000 to my overseers within 3 months after the death of the said Edmond Walsingham to perform my will according to the true meaning thereof
And if the said Thomas Wootton and Henry Guldeford do die then I will that my brother Levine Buffkin esquire shall be my executor
and if the said Levine Buffkin do die then I will that my brother George Guldeford esquire shall be my executor with one of my 2 said sons Edmund and Thomas that then shall be one of my executors

And I will that the said Edmund Walsingham my son shall enter into a bond of £2000 to my overseer within 3 months next after my decease to perform my will according to the meaning thereof
And of my said son Edmund Walsingham shall refuse to take upon him the execution of this my will and testament and do not execute and fulfil the same according to the true meaning thereof, or do not enter into bond of £2000 to my overseer within 3 months next after my decease for the performance of my last will and testament according to the true meaning of the same, Then I will that the said Edmund Walsingham my son shall lose all those legacies of goods and chattels and ituells? which were given to him the said Edmund Walsingham by this my last will and testament and that then my executors shall retain and have towards the performance of this my last will and testament all the said goods and chattels and items? which were bequeathed by me to the said Edmund.

Also I give to the said Dame Dorothy my wife £50 of lawful money of England and her coach with all manner of furniture in any wise belonging to the same
Also I give to the said Edmund Walsingham my son my own armour full complete
And I give to my brother George Guldeford a ring of 40s with a deaths head to be marked upon it
And to my brother Henry Guldeford my best gown
Item I give also to Sir Thomas Bromley knight lord Chancellor of England my best gelding or horse
Also I will that all the best of my apparel shall be divided and bestowed between Edmund Walsingham and Thomas Walsingham my sons, And the rest upon my servants that shall daily wait upon me as my executors shall think fit

Also I give and bequeath to Katheryne Grysley the elder which was brought up with me the daughter of my son Gresley £100 of lawful money of England to be paid to her by my executors at or upon the day of her marriage
Also I give and bequeath to Margaret Chere my wifes gentlewoman that a long time hath served my wife faithfully £50 of lawful money of England to be paid to her, her executors or assigns by my executors within one year next after my decease

Also I will that such as shall be my executors (except my son Edmund) shall yearly during their interest in the premises to them devised receive by their own hands to the own use 5 markes apiece in part of a recompense of such travel as they shall sustain in and about the execution of this my last will and testament, And over and besides allowances of their reasonable expenses to be sustained in the execution of this my will to them to be allowed, which will and testament 1 trust they will according to my special trust in them reposed diligently and truly endevour themselves in all things to execute to the commodity and profits of my children and payment of my debts being due without speciality or otherwise

Also I will that every of my servants be paid 13s 4d apiece over and besides their quarterly wages due unto them, And such of my servants as do receive no wages, I will that every of them shall have 26s 8d of lawful money
Item I give and bequeath unto Richard Barker my servant £5 6s 8d of lawful money yearly for and during so long term as the said Richard shall live, to receive and pay the rents of such lands as by me are allotted and appointed to my executors for the performance of my last will and testament And to look to the preservation of my woods and that my tenants do their reparations of their houses as they ought to do

Also I will that my well beloved wife, Sir Thomas Bromley knight chancellor of England and Sir Francis Walsingham knight one of the Queen Majesties principal servants, Sir Walter Myldmay knight shall be overseers of this my last will and testament, and my said overseers (other than my wife) every of them to have a ring of gold of an ounce to be made with a deaths head upon them

Provided always and my full intent and meaning is that if my son Thomas Walsingham or his heirs or any other my son or his heirs do evict recon' or enter into any of my lands or tenements, which shall at any time hereafter be or are limited to be in the hands and possession of my said son Edmund or the heirs of his body lawfully begotten or of my wife or of any other, which are limited given or granted to the said Edmond Walsingham or to the heirs of his body begotten by this my last will and testament or otherwise by deed, or which be conveyed for the jointure of my wife or for the jointure of my daughter Walsingham widow, contrary to the true intent and meaning of this my will or contrary to the tenure of any deed, writing or conveyance heretofore by me made, that then my said son Thomas and his heirs and any other son and his heirs which so shall record? evict and enter unto any of the said lands and tenements shall lose all benefit and advantage which he or they have or may have or claim? by reason of this my will (anything in these presents contained to the contrary notwithstanding)

And my will is that if any question doubt debate or ambiguity do arise upon any word, article or clause touching this my will, that the same be resolved explained and discussed by my said overseers (except my wife) or the survivor or survivors of them, And that such explanation resolution and determination as they or the survivors or survivor of them shall make Shall be received, had and taken as my full will:
Provided always and my full intent and meaning is that my wife and her assigns and all such as shall or may claim anything by reason of any estate or jointure to her made or conveyed and my son Edmund and his heirs of his body, and my son Thomas his heirs of his body, shall permit and suffer all such persons their executors administrators and assigns, and the executors administrators and assigns of every of them, to whom I the said Thomas Walsingham have at any time heretofore, or shall hereafter make under my hand and seal any lease of any lands tenements or hereditaments, or any wood sales, quietly to have occupy and enjoy to same according to the purport, true intent ad meaning of all and every the said leases and other grants
And if in case they or any of them shall be disturbed, evicted or troubled by my wife or Edmund or Thomas my sons or by any other by their means consent & procurement contrary to this my intent plain and true meaning, that then my full will and meaning is, that my wife or Edmond or Thomas my sons, which shall make any disturbance shall take no benefit by this my last will and testament

And my will is further that my said executors shall yearly make account to the said overseers (whereof the said Sir Francis Walsingham and Sir Walter Mildmay to be one if they be living) between the feasts of All Saints and the purification of St Mary the Virgin of all such rent revenues profits and receipts as they receive by reason of this my last will and testament
And further my will is that all my debts as well by specialty as otherwise being due by pass? be paid, and if any person can duly and rightfully prove himself to be injured by me, my will and earnest request to my executors is to satisfy them of their due and rightful hurts and demands

All the residue of my goods and chattels not before by me given and bequeathed and the residue of the rents revenues issues and profits, appointed for the payment of my debts the execution of this my last will and testament which shall remain (my debts and legacies being paid and my said will and testament being fully performed) I will shall be equally divided by my said executors between my said two sons Edmund Walsingham and Thomas Walsingham
And if Edmund Walsingham my son or the heirs males of his body, do or suffer to be done, any Act or thing whereby my lease of the demesne lands of Burwell, Rypley and other lands and tenements which I have by the Queen Majestie L[ette]rs patents shall be forfeited surrendered or otherwise determined before the end thereof, Then I will that all the annuities or annual rent which I have bequeathed to be going out the said demesne lands of Burwell, Rypley and other lands and tenements contained in the said lease, shall be issuing and going out of my said Manor and parsonage of Croydon and out of the lands, tenements, tythes, profits and hereditaments to the said Manor and parsonage or to either of them belonging or reputed as parcel of the same in such sort to all intents and purposes as the said annuities or annual rents were bequeathed to be going out of the said demesnes of the said manor of Burwell and Ryply and other lands and tenements contained in the said lease

And if it happen my said two daughters Frances ad Mary or either of them to be unpaid their several yearly payments of 20 markes appointed them by this my will for their funding till they receive their portions given them by my said will, Then I will that the said Frances and Mary shall distrain for their said payments of 20 markes being behind in all my lands appointed to my executors for 21 years towards the execution of this my will

Also I give and bequeath unto Dame Dorothy my wife all my manor lands, tenements, rents, revisions, services and hereditaments in the county of Essex to have and to hold the same manor, lands, tenements, rents, revisions, services and hereditaments to the same Dame Dorothy my wife for term of her life
And after the death of the said Dame Dorothy my wife I will all my said manors, lands, tenements, rents, reversion, services and hereditaments in the said county of Essex shall remain and be to the said Edmond Walsingham my son and to the heirs males of his body lawfully begotten
And for default of such issue I will the said manors lands tenements, rents, revisions, services and hereditaments in the said county of Essex shall remain and be to Thomas Walsingham my son and to the heirs males of his body lawfully begotten
And for default of such issue to remain to the heirs of the body of the said Edmund and for default of the such issue to remain to the heirs of the body of the said Thomas Walsingham my son
And for default of such issue I will the said manors, lands, tenements, rents, revisions, services and hereditaments shall remain to the right heirs of the said Edmund

In witness whereof I the said Thomas Walsingham knight clearly renouncing and revoking all former wills and testaments, have with my proper hand subscribed my name to this my last will and testament, And have thereunto put my seal of Arms the 15th day of October in the 25th year of the reign of our sovereign Lady Elizabeth by the grace of god Queen of England, France and Ireland defender of the faith &c. [1583]

These being witnesses thereunto whose names are under written
Thomas Walsingham in whom the lord have mercy, and forgive me the mispending of my life in this world in sin
