This is the last Will and Testament of me John Webb of Luton in the Parish of Chatham in the County of Kent Yeoman made published and declared this Eighth Day of January in the Year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred and Eighty Nine in manner and form following (that is to say)

I give and devise unto my Wife Susanna All that Messuage or Tenement Hereditaments and Premises with the Appurtenances situate lying and being in a certain Street commonly called Prince Street in the Parish of Gillingham in the County of Kent aforesaid wherein I lately dwelt and now in the Occupation of ___ Adams To Hold the same unto my said wife Susanna and her Assigns for and during the Term of her natural Life without impeachment of or for any manner of Waste other than and except voluntary Waste
And from and immediately after her Decease I give and Devise the same unto my Son Richard Webb his Heirs and Assigns for ever

Also I give and devise unto my said son Richard Webb All and every other my Freehold Messuages or Tenements Lands Hereditaments and Premises which I shall be seized of or interested in at the time of my Decease situate lying and being in the Parish of Gillingham aforesaid or elsewhere To Hold the same unto the said Richard Webb his Heirs and Assigns absolutely for ever
Subject nevertheless and charged and chargeable with the payment of the clear Annuity or Yearly sum of Twenty pounds hereinafter by me given to my said Wife for her Life as hereinafter mentioned

Also I give and Bequeath unto my said Wife Susanna and her Assigns for and during the Term of her natural Life One Annuity or Yearly sum of twenty pounds clear of all Taxes and Deductions whatsoever to be issuing and payable out of and charged and chargeable upon all my Freehold Estates which I shall be seized of or interested in at the time of my Decease
Which said clear Yearly Annuity of twenty pounds I direct to be paid by four equal Quarterly Payments (that is to say) on the Feast Days of Saint Michael the Archangel the Nativity of our Lord Christ the Annunciation of the Blessed Virgin Mary and Saint John the Baptist in every year the first payment thereof to begin and be made on such of the said Feast Days as shall first happen next after my Decease
And that when and as often as the same or any part thereof shall be behind and unpaid for the space of twenty one Days next over or after either of the said Feasts or Days whereon the same ought to be paid as aforesaid (being lawfully demanded) That then and so often as it shall so happen it shall and may be lawful to and for my said Wife Susanna and her Assigns into the said Premises so respectively chargeable therewith as aforesaid or any part or parts thereof to enter and distrain and such Distress and Distresses then and there taken to retain keep and dispose of according to Law until she or they shall be fully paid and satisfied all such Arrearages of such Annuity with the Costs and Charges in and about the making keeping and disposing of such Distress and Distresses

Also I give and bequeath unto Thomas Wood son of my said Wife Susanna by her former Husband Thomas Wood deceased the sum of ten pounds and a suit of Mourning to be paid and payable and to be given unto him within three Months next after my Decease

Also I give and bequeath unto my Sister Mary Hobday of Maidstone in Kent the sum of five pounds

Also I give and bequeath unto my said Wife Susanna Webb my son Richard Webb and William Kemsley of Aylesford in the said County of Kent Yeoman my Executors hereinafter named the sum of One Hundred pounds of lawful Money of Great Britain Upon Trust that they my said Executors or the Survivors or survivor of them or the Executors or Administrators of such survivor do and shall pay and apply the same and every part thereof unto my Daughter Mary the wife of William Lewis of the City of Rochester in the said County Boatman to and for her own sole separate and peculiar use and Benefit exclusive of the said William Lewis her Husband in manner following (that is to say) Twenty pounds part thereof within three Calendar Months next after my Decease Twenty pounds further part thereof within six Calendar Months next after my Decease Twenty pounds further part thereof within nine Calendar Months next after my Decease Twenty pounds further part thereof within twelve Calendar Months next after my Decease and the remaining twenty pounds within fifteen Calendar Months next after my Decease

And it is my Mind Will and Desire that the said Legacy nor any part thereof shall not be subject or liable to the Debts Dispositions Engagements or Controul of the said William Lewis her Husband and that the Receipt or Receipts of the said Mary Lewis alone notwithstanding her Coverture shall at all times be a good and sufficient Release and discharge to my said Executors for such sum and sums of Money as in any such Receit or Receits shall be expressed to be received

Also I give and bequeath unto my said Wife Susanna Webb Richard Webb and William Kemsley the sum of One hundred pounds of lawful Money of Great Britain Upon Trust that they my said Executors or the Survivors or survivor of them or the Executors or Administrators of such survivor do and shall pay and apply the same and every part thereof unto my Daughter Elizabeth the Wife of George Spendiff of Faversham in the said County of Kent to and for her own sole separate and peculiar use and Benefit exclusive of the said George Spendiff her Husband in manner following (that is to say) Twenty pounds part thereof within three Calendar Months next after my Decease Twenty pounds further part thereof within six Months next after my Decease Twenty pounds further part thereof within nine Calendar Months next after my Decease Twenty pounds further part thereof within twelve Calendar Months next after my Decease and the remaining twenty pounds within fifteen Calendar Months next after my Decease

Also I Give and bequeath unto my said Wife Susanna my Silver Cream Pot a pair of Silver Tea Tongs two of my best Silver Table Spoons Six of my best Silver Tea Spoons one pair of my best Silver Salts and one of the best of my Silver Pint Mugs

Also I give and bequeath unto my son Richard Webb my Clock Desk and all the Remainder of my Plate not hereinbefore disposed of
Also I give and bequeath unto my said Wife Susanna two pair of my best Sheets six of my best Napkins and six of my best Towels
Also I give and bequeath unto my said wife Susanna and my said son Richard Webb All my Household Goods and Furniture and Implements of Household China and Linen (not hereinbefore disposed of) of what nature or kind soever to be equally divided between and amongst them share and share alike

All the rest residue and remainder of my Estate and Effects whatsoever and wheresoever and of what Nature kind or quality soever from and after payment of all my just Debts Legacies and Funeral Expences and the Charges and Expences attending the Execution of this my Will I give and bequeath the same and every part thereof unto my said son Richard Webb his Executors Administrators and Assigns to and for his and their own Use and Benefit

And Lastly I do hereby make ordain nominate constitute and appoint my said wife Susanna my said son Richard Webb and William Kemsley joint Executrix and Executors of this my Will and hereby revoking and making void all former and other Wills by me at any time heretofore made I declare this only to be and contain my last Will and Testament

In Witness whereof I the said John Webb the Testator have to this my Will contained in three Sheets of Paper to the first two Sheets thereof set my Hand and to this last Sheet my Hand and Seal the Day and year first above written

Signed sealed published and declared by the said John Webb the Testator as and for his last Will and Testament in the presence of us who in his presence and at his Request and in the presence of each other have subscribed our Names as Witnesses thereto
The Interlineation between the first and second Line in the second sheet and the Name Elizabeth Spendiff written on an erasure on the fifth line from the bottom of the second sheet being first duly made

This Will was proved at Rochester the fourteenth Day of May 1789 Before the Revd Charles Allen Clerk a Surrogate by the Oaths of Susannah Webb Widow and Relict and Richard Webb the Son of the deceased two of the Executors in the said Will named to whom was granted Administration they having been first sworn duly to Administer (power reserved of granting the like Commission to William Kemsley the other Executor in the said Will named when he shall apply)
