In the name of God Amen the laste daye of Marche in the xxxvjth [36th] yeare of the Reigne of our Sovereigne Lady Quene Elizabeth &c. 1594
I Thomas Wood of Ashe next Sandwich in the Countie of Kent Yeoman sicke in body but p[er]fecte of remembrannce, thancks be to God, doe make my laste will or Testamente in manner & forme folowinge, vizt.
Firste I comitte my soule to God hopinge to be saved by the onely meryts of xiste [Christ] & my bodie to be buried in Aishe Churchyarde neere unto Willia Wood

Item I will that my Executors shall bestowe at my buriall amongs(t) the poore of Aishe aforesaid halfe a barrell of beere & iij dozen of bread
Item I doe give widdowe Fortune one bushell of wheat to be delivered imediatly after next harvest ensewing my decease
Item I doe give unto my s[er]vannte Bennet Brompton a twelvemonthinge Cowe bullock to be delyvered to her w[i]thin six weeks next after my decease

Item I doe give unto John Wood my sonne all my wages and arrerag(e) of wages as nowe is or at the time of my decease shall growe due & payable to me for or by reason of my pention [pension] of governors coine in the Bullwarke under Dover Castle

The Residue of all & singuler my goods & chattells after my debts, legacies & funerall expenses dischardged & paid I doe give & bequith unto Bennett my Wife & John Wood my sonne to be equally shifted & devided betwene them
And I doe constitute ordaine & make John Wood my said sonne sole Executor of this my laste Will or Testamente

This is the Laste Will or Testament of me the said Thomas Wood made & declared in the day & yeare aforesaid as touchinge all and singuler my lands, Ten[emen]ts & hereditaments scituate or beinge in Aishe aforesaid

Inprimis I will that Bennet my said wife & John Wood my said sonne shall have, hold & enjoye the said landes, tents & hereditaments wth the appurten[a]ncs for & during the terme of their lyves & the longest lyver of them

And I will that imediatly after the decease of the said Bennet my wif all & singuler the said lands Ten'ts and hereditaments wth the appurtenncs shall remaine & be unto the said John Wood my sonne his heyres & Assignes for ever

Provided allwaies & my will & intent is th[a]t yf my said wife doe marry againe then I will that imediatly after such mariadge all & singuler the said lands Tents & hereditaments wth the appurtenncs shall wholy & solye remaine & be & I doe absolutely give & bequeath the same to my said sonne John Wood his heires & assignes for ever

In witnes whereof I the said Thomas Wood have caused this my last will & Testament to be written read & openly declared & thereto have set my mark & seale the day & yeare abovesaid in the pr[ese]nce of the witnesses underwritten

Thomas Wood was buried 6 Apr 1594 at St. Nicholas, Ash-next-Sandwich, Kent.
Thomas Wood married Alyce Wood 29 Jul 1560 at Ash. She was buried there 11 Nov 1561.
John Wood was baptised 23 Feb 1566, s. of Thomas, at Ash.
