In the name of God amen the eyghtene day of October 1621 and in the 70 yere of my age
I Richard Wood of the p�yshe of Chart next Sutton Valence wythein the countie of Kent yoman make this my last will and testament in m�ner and forme folowing
First I bequeth my soule in to the handes of allmygti god instedfaste faith and asured hope of the full & free remyssion pardon & forgivenesse of all my sinnes and offences And that after this lyfe ended I shall inherite & enioye eternall life in the kingdome of heaven only by & through the meretes righteousnes & most p�tious death passion & resurrection of Jesus Christ my only & alone saviour & redemer ... all the ..acte saynts of God and my body I will shalbe buried in decent & christen maner at the northe side of the churche nere the great window next the place wher my wyfe was buried.

Item I geve to viij men of my neyghbors to beare my body to the churche viij s
and I geve to the pouer to be stowed them xx s & iiij bus.. of wheat to be baked out in bread for them and one barrell of beare
and I geve to every of my servants in my house x s apece to be payd w�in one yeare after my decese
to e�y of my godchildren xv d apece to be payd lykewse

And I will & bequeth the p�fittes of my westlndes or the formeth at dath arise shalbe & goo towards the mayntanance bringing up & p�fearment of the children of my iij sonnes and iij daughters lawfully begotten as well them that are not yet borne (as they that are now lyving for the tearme of ther naturall lyfe) To be payd to every of them or ther paronce or tutors for ther use by the farmon & ther of)

And It shalbe lawfull for those gardeners [guardians?] to distrayne for ther porcion and to with holde it according to lawe And the first payment to begine at the next principall feast after my decease and my will & mynd is that the fee simple shall remayn in the longest lyver of them whether he be malle or femalle for ever.

Item my mynd and will is that all my goods of wooden stuffe as well w�in the house or wythe out shall remayne and be to the house & not altered nor removed

The residue of my goodes & chatteles not before wlled my dettes payd & my funirall discharged shall remayne to my iij sonnes and my ij daughters equayley to be devided betwene them

And I make my sonne Willm my executor of this my last will and testament whom I appoint and will to have the lettinge and settinge of the sayd westlands and after the decease of my executor the executors of the sayd William or his administrators shall have power to let it at the best rent

First I will and bequeth to my sonne John Wood allthose my xij peces or pacelles of lande called or knowen by the name of Fowleforde uperlandes by my p'ell? the barly fall and the seares to hym and his heyers in fee simple for ever By me Richard Wood

Item I geve and bequeth to Willm Wood my sonne all that my viij peces or paselles of lande called or knowen by the names of Brodsill Calnescroth westenland Estystill longmedowes to hym and his heyers in fee semple for ever. By me Richard Wood

Item I geve and bequeth to Richard Wood my sonne all that my Capitall meswyge called Elderden wyth the houses barnes and houses stables stalles panes wayes to his only use oacherd gardens to the sayd meswhyge appertaynces xvij peces or paselles of land and wood called or known by the names of Saultuckers Copperoth kichen medow mindfilldes the sacake littletherst medow the fill undrthe wood the wood the lowermeds and the 2 south feildes with ther appertenances to hym and his heyeres in fee simple for ever. In wittnesse hereof I have sett my hande to e�ry of my sonnes partes whiche I have willed them
Published signall sealed & delivered in the p�sence of us whose names are hereunder written & the words (lawfully begotten) & two lynes interlyned for devise? of westlande & theis worde (to his only pp use) were interlined before the ..sealing & delinge herof (& the two south feilds) were also interlyned.

Richard Wood was buried at Chart Sutton on 22 Oct 1624
His wife Mary had been buried there on 9 Sep 1602
They had 7 children baptised there:
John 30 Jan 1585/6, William 1 Dec 1588, Jane 6 Jan 1590/1, Frances 16 Apr 1592, Margrett Bt.18 Dec 1593 & buried 19 Dec, Ellen 8 Feb 1595/6 & Richard 4 Mar 1598/9.
Jane Wood married Giles Blackborne in 1616.
Ellen Wood married Thomas Walter of Marden 3 Aug 1619 at Milton next Sittingbourne and they had 3 children. She remarried William Webb 22 Apr 1632 and had a further 3 children. She was buried at Marden 4 Nov 1669.
Richard is probably the son and executor of Jane Wood, widow of John of Chart Sutton, will 1586.
