Richard Wood of Sutton Vallence, Yeoman, will dated 17 Aug 1646

My Body to the Earth to bee interred on the North side of the Church in the Church yard of Chart next Sutton neere my Father and other my kindred

I make and ordaine my sonne Richard Wood & my Brother William Wood Executors of this my last will & Testament

Whereas I have by deed and other lawfull Conveyance mortgages or assured unto Robert Drayner, gent, a principall Messuage & lands lyeing in Chart for the some of �300, the Interest whereof is all truly payd and althought the tyme of the payment of the sayd �300 is not yet come yet neverthelesse the sayd Robert Drayton is content to accept & take in the sayd �300 I do therefore hereby authorise and appoynt my sayd sonne Richard Wood and my sayd Brother William Wood or eyther of them within all convenient speed after my decease to sell to any person or persons for the best vallew they cann All and every my sayd Capitall Messuage and Landes with thappurtenances in Chart aforesaid and to pay & dispose of the moneys thereof ariseing & comeing in manner & forme hereafter expressed, that is to say

My will and mind is that the said Robert Drayner shall bee first payd his sayd �300 and all such use thereof as shall bee then due for the same
And in the next place that my Executors shall well and truly pay and dischardge all my ---debts whatsoever & to whom soever by mee due and oweing

Next my will is that my Executors shall truly pay unto my Daughter Mary the wife of Hesekia Holland Clarke the sume of �6 a year half yearly to be payd for and dureing the ioynt lyves of the said Hesekia & Mary.
And after the decease of eyther of them my Executors shall well and truly pay or cause to be payd unto the Survivor of them the full some of �100 for the use and benefit of such survivor & the children that they in the mean tyme shall have

My will and mynde further is that my Executors shall pay unto my Daughter Frances the sume of �50 att her age of 21 or att her day of marriage
I give unto my Daughter Susan the sume of �50 to bee payd unto her at the age of 21 or day of marriage
My will and mind is that my Executors shall putt forth the sayd severall porcions of money soe bequeathed to my sayd Daughters Frances and Susan untill the tymes before expressed for the payment thereof and the interest and profitt that shall bee made of the same my Executors shall pay unto Mary my Wife for & towards the educacion & maintenance of them the sayd Frances & Susan if shee, my sayd wife shall continue soe long my widow

My will and mynde is that my sayd wife shall have her dwelling rent free in the howse wherein I nowe dwell for and dureing her naturall life and have the use and benefit of all my howseholdstuffe and also �16 a yere half yerely to bee payd by my Executors

Bequests to sonne Richard (not yet 21) after his mother�s decease�
I give unto my brother William for his Care & paynes herein to bee taken (over & above his reasonable chardges & expences) the sume of �10 hee giving a true accompt heerin according to this my will

All the rest, Residue and remainder of my goods, Chattells I give and bequeathe unto my sayd sonne Richard desiring God to blesse him and soe revoaking all other wills by mee made�
